PCGamingWiki- is a wiki aiming to list a single page forall PC game fixes. No more forum searching, multi-page threads and locked forums whilst searching for a game fix.

Kickstarter for PCGamingWiki. If enough people can get behind this, maybe we can eradicate the 'nvm fixed it' forums posts for PC games forever..

I had never heard of this site and it's conceptually very cool, but I think they're dreaming. Even if all the banner rewards are bought by advertisers, that's still $41k they need to raise.

But if it does take off, it will provide an easy rebuttal to the argument that you need to spend hours searching for fixes to play any PC game (I mean, besides "You're an idiot")

I remember my days as a pc gamer. Looking for solutions on message boards with 1 out of 10 responses actually fixing the problem

Well, you can't really lose anything if it fails. The money doesn't go out until the project is funded.

As I said in the other thread, I'll donate $50. It's a small initial investment so if it catches on I'll probably donate more. I have definitely had to do some digging before and to come up with answers for issues.

"Errror #258959680" there's only 1 hit and the thread stopped in 2003.

lol

Nostalgia. Memories.

I don't deal with it unless I get paid.

I Xbox it and live my life.

You want me to deal with error messages, pay me $60/hr and I will deal with them, completey and effectively.

If it's my time and I'm free, then I rent it, Xbox it, if I don't like it then I send it back.

Problem -> Solution

There is that eventuality. But the site is good right now. It just needs funding so it can grow and cover enough games to be really functional.

I had never heard of this site and it's conceptually very cool, but I think they're dreaming. Even if all the banner rewards are bought by advertisers, that's still $41k they need to raise.

But if it does take off, it will provide an easy rebuttal to the argument that you need to spend hours searching for fixes to play any PC game (I mean, besides "You're an idiot")Cherokee_Jack

Hi thanks for the support and for reposting this thread. I'm hopeful that the Kickstarter will succeed, but it'll require the supreme generosity of the community to make the project succeed (4,100 donators giving $10 each). If you don't have money to spare, come and support us by editing the site: http://www.pcgamingwiki.com

Oho, so you're involved. I was thinking, Giant Bomb has a pretty extensive gaming wiki already (with a big community), and they're now owned by CBS which puts a lot more resources at their disposal. If this Kickstarter doesn't work out, I wonder if there's some potential for collaboration there.

So... how much would I spend to never have to look far again for a solution to a PC issue...

Hmmm.
This is a tough one.
Cause you know, it happens very infrequently but when it does you really do want to get it solved fast.
Usually that takes like... half an hour to an hour?

If I could do it in 10 minutes then that is worth like $20 for me. But there is little guarantee, right?

There is potential for collaboration here. There are also other wikifarms, such as Curse, which are a good fit because they are more PC-centric. GiantBomb wikis mostly focus on game content rather than fixes. There is potential for them to have a 'fixes' subpage for each game, but there is a big danger of too much 'clutter' in the search results, and a lack of clear direction. PCGamingWiki is fairly pinpoint in not including game content at all, and is very much about the business of fixing games (and improvements like essential mods). This makes it much easier to find solutions to problems.

True.

I've sent Jeff G a question about PCGamingWiki and the possibility of having a section for fixes on GB, so hopefully he'll have some insight on that.

This doesn't need a kickstart as far as I'm concerned, it should be a community wiki.
