...gaming platform of all time. Games like this just come out of left field on PC and smack you silly with great gameplay and atmosphere. The really clever use of phyiscs based puzzles and the whole idea of using the mouse as a virtual hand is just so refreshing to see. Not only that but you can run it on basically any old machine and buy it for < $20.

Why can we not see this more often on the consoles? It is because on the PC there are no royalties to pay, no expensive SDK's to licence and an open platform with an in-depth control scheme that allows freedom of design.

This is why the PC is the greatest gaming platform of all time. For me, it is titles such as this that keep gaming alive.

Games like STALKER, Witcher, Penumbra, and SOASE are the games that save us all from the mind numbing, spirit crushing rehashes that have plagued all the platforms for the last year or so.

It is just a shame more people don't realise this. I can understand people finding the controls more difficult to get used to than on consoles but the variety it gives you in gameplay is unrivalled.

You can argue all of the reasons under the sun for not wanting to play on a PC but you simply cannot deny that the extra time and money investment you make with PC's pays you back with so much it is worth it 100x over :).

P.S. Totally off topic but we've just had a fair sized Earthquake here in the UK..well certainly shook the house about a bit heh.

Gameplay wise Penumbra is great, as well as the atmosphere. The story just plain sucks. No scratch that. It would suck if it had a story. It's an adventure game, so what gives?! -------- But yeah, Penumbra is an indie game, and that's all well and good. However, Microsoft is introducing the XNA kit to indie developers too, so we may be seeing the stuff that's been on PC for ages finally making its way onto consoles.

The first room had me scratching my head for a while, first time a game has done that in ages. Then when you get the first glimpse of the 'thing' outside the door it really sets up the atmosphere. What an incredible shame that it's the end of the series.

Let's not leave out The Experiment. I played a bit of it and it seems pretty original. Very different from what I seen before.

Me too. I had a headache thinking of where and what to do.

They have and I applaud them for doing it but console controls are part of the problem. As comfortable and easy to use as they are (and superior for certain games types no doubt) they do limit what you can do with them. The Wii had the right idea but fails to use it to it's fullest potential.

Yeah it is definately not for everyone, just an example of the different types of game the PC offers.
