Exclusive = limited number of platforms. The term "limited number" does not translate into "only one". It can also mean "two" or "three". If I was a PC-only gamer, I would view Soul Calibur as being "exclsuive to PS3 and 360", since I cannot play it on my PC.

these games aren't on the ps3 or wii so it's still an advantage the 360 has. People get too caught up in defining something instead of looking at what games are actually on a system that aren't on another. That's all that matters to me when considering a console anyways. You can't play Left 4 dead on the ps3. It's on the 360, it's not on the ps3. the person that said exclusive can mean certain consoles is actually correct I think although i always thought it meant just one, but there definately should be a word for what we are talking about. I think it is exclusive.

They are exclusive games becuase you can only get them on that system they are exclusive to it. if its a limited number of platforms thats not an exlusive its just not on the systems that dont have it thats all

Soul Calibur 4 is exclisve to PS3 and 360, because I cannot play it on my PC. The word "Exclsuive" derives from the word "Exclude". As a PC gamer, I am "excluded" (hence the word "exclusive") from playing Soul Calibur 4 on my PC, so I am forced to buy a PS3 or 360 if I want to play it.

Exclusive = some platforms are EXCLUDED, only a limited number (not always just one) are included.

Sure you could say "PC/360 Exclusive," But it's not exclusive in the sense the TC is using the word. Just like a game can be a "console exclusive" when it's on multiple platforms.

Also, just to throw this in. I get a kick that the TC used L4D of all games out there. I'd at least expect him to pick a game meant for consoles like Gears.

okay, but exclusive needs a qualifier if you're going to use it that way.... ie: "360/PS3 exclusive" or "Console Exclusive"..... If you say "Gears of War is exclusive" that statement is false.... but you can say "Gears of War is 360/PC Exclusive"

imo the pc is not in the same genre as consoles anyways, so imo Left 4 dead is exclusive to the 360 in a genre which is consoles.

you have a point there. alghough the system wars definition of exclusive is entirely different to the real world definition. at systems wars an exclusive is a game that' sonly available on 1 platform (halo, mgs, mario etc) while in real life it's perfectly correct to describe a game that's not available for up to 1 of the consoles to be exclusive to the ps3/wii, bxox/pc etc.

i don't really see this argument going anywhere

well the definition of exclusive is an adjective to describe something excluding something else or a one off. so describing gears of war as exclusive is perfectly fine because it's excluding the wii and ps3.

No, I don't consider them "exclusive" but I will say this:

  • This is NOT Fanboy Wars - Nobody cares that you can play X game on X system. If its not released for the system YOUR supporting, then it really doesn't help your argument.
  • Saying "I can play Bioshock on PC" is no different from a Lemming saying " I can play MGS4 on my friends PS3" We're not here to discuss what YOU can and cannot play, we are here to discuss systems that can and cannot play.
  • as it stands:

    360 cannot play MGS4
PS3 cannot play Left for Dead
    PC cannot play GTA4 (lolicanseetheresponsesforthisone)

In the real world you'r be right. Unfortunately this is system wars. Here exclusive means "only available on ONE (1) system". L4D is no exclusive. I thought we decided there's no such thing as console exclusive a long time ago.

There was a Sony announcement lately saying that they are going to bring some of there PC product to the PS3. So some PS3 owner will start to say that there are exclusives and some 360 owner will say it not exclusive. This arguement wont go away.

I think for the purpose of a gaming forum like this where a lot of people are just arguing between the PS3 and the 360 then you can count these games being a console exclusive.

Well a PSP or Wii owner would consider it an exclusive since they cannot play it on their systems. But you do make a good point, so I guess you could call COD4 "barely exclsusive since its too widely available", and since this is System Wars, a place where we use exclusive games as ownage, we need to be more strict with the word "exclusive" :P

That's the problem with system wars and any labelling or rules when presenting an argument imo... What if the rule isn't correct? Like I said people get too caught up in labelling something instead of seeing an actual advantage that a system clearly has. Games like Left 4 dead get swept under the rug in an argument when you can't play it on the ps3. It's the same for games like Braid imo... Braid is an excellent game for $15 on the 360 that you can't play anywhere else right now. It gets overlooked because arcade titles aren't accepted for whatever reason, when imo the arcade is one of the best things around. This is games we are talking about right?

if you actually care to look it up then you'll realise they both mean very similar things and can be used in many identical contexts. the only difference is that exclusive is a more positive term while excluded is more negative.

you could say 'sorry mum, i was excluded from school today' or you could also say 'mum, i'm now exclusive to every school in the area except the one i previously went to'. it depends on what kind of spin you want to put on the statement. same goes for games. 'mgs 4 is exclusive to ps3' and 'mgs 4 has excluded every console but the ps3'

[QUOTE="SolidGame_basic"]They're not exclusive. If I can play the same game on 360 on my PC then how does that make it exclusive? that's why the PC/PS3 combo is best. superjim42

it makes it exclusive because you can't play them on your ps3 or wii.

but i can play on my pc so its not exclusive.

just like how the ps3 mmo's coming up are not exclusive because they will be on the pc too.

so if you only own a wii does that make it exclusive? look up the definition of exclusive.

Are you able to play them on more than one system?

Yes.

They're not exclusive.

PandaBear86

Exclusive = limited number of platforms. The term "limited number" does not translate into "only one". It can also mean "two" or "three". If I was a PC-only gamer, I would view Soul Calibur as being "exclsuive to PS3 and 360", since I cannot play it on my PC.

but that still on Two systems so its not an exclusive. games like halo 3 gears of war 2 for the xbox, metal gear solid 4 killzone to for the ps3, brawl zelda for the (sniger) wii and crysis for the pc.

Okay. So following that logic every game is now exclusive.

Well done, you broke the SW.

Why must you keep on nagging about semantics just to hear you're right? Okay. You are right! Happy now?

Like I said before, the literal meaning of the word exclusive has nothing to do with System Wars. In here exclusive means that something is available to only one system. We decided that long ago. There's also no such thing as console exclusive as far as system wars is concerned.

i'm nagging about semantics while you're insisting that definitions on system wars have very slightly different meanings than the real world? atleast my opinion is linguistically correct

In the past in SW lemmings claimed 360 games that were also available on pc to be "console exlusive". It has been discussed back then and the result of this discussion was that IN SW a game is only exclusive if it's available to just one console. Pc + 360 = not exclusive by SW standards.

So your plan is to just fight SW rules and keep using real world logic on system wars? Good luck with that. Just do it structurally then and don't be opportunistic using SW logic and real world logic whenever it fits your argument best, like many people here do.

There is a big difference if a game is 360 only and for the 360/PC. I, as a owner of a competing console, can't get a hold of a 360 only game unless I buy the 360. But if that game is also out on PC, then I'd rather get the game for $60 then fork over a few hundred for 360 and the game. What kind of advantage is that then?
