Lets face it, other than a few different themes the Mario games are all the same. Go to level, get star, repeat several times. That's it. You might get a few suits or..ugh a water gun that is the Jar-Jar Binks of video games but it's pretty much all the same.

Banjo 3 is trying something new and people are upset because they want the same thing. I think it's cool being 80% vehiclebased as long as they're interesting and fun. 20% is still on foot stuff. Remember vehicle based doesn't just mean racing which a lot of people seem to think it is.

Hell if they made it the same thing there would be tons of people going "It's good but not as good as SMG. Rare should have tried some new things. Bloody MS ruined them. :("

You sir have nailed it and are full of Win.

I have said much the same, no matter what Rare decided to do with Banjo - there are those who despise not having the IP on their system of choice.

Hyping AAA all the way and can't wait to play the game ! :D

no vehicles are not cool at all in game like Banjoo, it wud have been ok if there was little use of vehicles like maybe a few races during the story or killing 1 or 2 bosses but putting main focus on vehicle in game like banjoo? GTFO Rare

I'm sick of developers not trying new things. We don't need the same thing 50 times. I think it's good they're trying something new.

The worst that could happen? It flops, Banjo 4 is back to the old ways.

That's not fair. I love Mario Galaxy, consider it the best 3d platformer ever. And I am still super hyped for Banjo. The vehicles sound like utter fun and madness, and that's what Banjo has always been about. Sure in the first two, you could fly, sled, swim, bounce, float etc. It's just you'll be doing it in a vehicle instead of on foot. A crazy custom vehicle. Awesome.

Then again I own Wii and 360, so I could be *gasp* unbiased.

I've just read Games Magazine article on N&B, and it's sounding really interesting. It seems the vehicle replaces most of the moves and powers Banjo/Kazooie had in the previous game, but customizable.

You have to unlock key parts of your vehicles through boss fights. It says there was this one area where the vehicle would slip if you try to ride up it, but once you unlock the certain key part (spiked wheels) you will be able to progress to that area. It seems to play much like the originals. Showdown Town is primarily traditional platforming, but they also said traditional platforming/gameplay and the vehicle platforming/gameplay compliment each other well. I'll have to keep an eye out for this game.

the thing is, they've taken a lot of what made a BK game .. only around 20% platforming now, kazooie's moves gone

in an interview, RARE confirmed that this started out as a different idea, then they added Banjo to the mix

this could easily have been a new IP, with a traditional banjo-threeie coming out to please the die-hard fans

SMG kept a lot of traditional stuff but was still fresh .. RARE didn't have to change the formula this much to make an innovative game

i'm sure it'll be a good game, but it might not be a true BK game

I don't see the problem, they said a long time ago it wasn't going to be a traditional platformer.

Everything I've seen so far looked fun to play and I'm excited to get my hands on it.

(Yes I played the originals for the N64 when they came out, times change, hardware changes and as such gameplay needs to change. Have faith in the exact same people who brought you the original games, they're the ones who made this decision.)

Nuts and Bolts is Banjo 3, confirmed by Rare on their live chat. The next Banjo will be the 4th.

But Rare's upcoming titles could turn that around. Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise, for instance, hopes to fix that disconnect between the audience it attracted and its accessibility by adding online and local co-op and tweaking gameplay.

And while Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts isn't a true sequel to the franchise, its concept, a vehicle platformer, was entirely the idea of Rare and its developers.

Hopefully today will give me a chance to see if Rare has been able to turn it around and get back to making games like Goldeneye rather than Grabbed By The Ghoulies.

Shane Kim doesn't work for Rare, read the live chat transcript, not only did a RARE dev say it was going to be named Banjo Threeie if it wasn't for the name alienating new fans, but they even called the game Banjo 3 several times.

I think the thing is that Mario Galaxy innovated massively with its gravity based gameplay.....but at its core it's still a platformer and seen as part of the main series. One of the reasons why many were irritated by Mario Sunshine was because the water pack altered it from a platformer to a hovering and cleaning game. If Mario Sunshine had used a completely different character or had been marketed as a spin-off then it would have been accepted far more easily. The same is true of this Banjo game.

People expected Banjo to be platformer but it now seems to have turned into something different. That doesn't mean it's bad...it's just makes it seem like more of a spin-off game from the main series..which isn't what many wanted or expected.

One other thing is that people just don't see vehicles as devices for a platforming game...I suspect if instead of machines they allowed you to create various different creatures to ride/fly then this concept would be more easily accepted.

If you honestly believe SMG is just the same thing all over again, then obviously haven't played it. I totally agree on the Banjo 3 thing, though.

SMG is the same thing. You go to fire, plains, ice ect levels to find stars until you have enough to fight bowser. Just because it's in a different setting and has gravity as a gameplay aspect doesn't mean it's totally different. I'd say the one that changed the most was Sunshine but that sucked.

Same thing happened with Metroid Prime. A TON of fanboys were crying.

But u know what, they got over it and Metroid Prime was a success.

Okay, so the concept was the same... so what ? You could say the same thing about Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts... You go to plains, fire and ice levels, collect music notes, jinjos and puzzle pieces, talk to mumbo to get new abilities until you can fight Grunty. :?

SMG was just about perfect in how it combined elements that you loved and are classic in Mario games while adding a new dimension of gameplay. it balanced things really well. and i think that's the major complains about banjo. it's not as balanced.

as for the formula, come on. we can break down most games to a formula of getting from point A to B and repeated that till the end.

No, it's their IP. I'd rather they take chances, rather than be like nintendo and make the same game over and over again with a cheap gimmick, Nintendo bought themselves an innovation-free era with regards to their games with the Wii because of waggle controls.

lol you will be jumping 50 times over and over in a car ect. this doens not worry you how boring it will get. buy using vehicles it will just become a non motional platforming with stiff cars ect.

I don't see what the problem is. It's not a racing game, this isn't Nintendo we're talking about here.

You go through the levels constantly customizing, tweaking, and creating brand new vehicles with different items and traits in order to best solve the puzzle. That sounds like a fun gameplay to me. It's really no different than using Link's hookshot, boomerang, fire arrows, light arrows, mirror shield in order to solve puzzles.

Open your minds! If you don't want to, have fun with your Wii. You won't need it.
