Yep WoW is one of the few games I'd actually give a 10/10 to, no matter how much people hate WoW the game is extremely fun for me and millions of others, not to mention it lasts years! The last game I played for years was WC3.

WoW truly is on another level in terms of mmo's.

You know a game is good when the only time someone will actually try a different MMO is when they've become so tired of playing WOW for a hundred years.

I usually never bad mouth a game just because I don't like it, but WoW is another story entirely. Everyone who plays that game is getting robbed every month. What is it, like $15 a month to play? Thats $180 per year to play ONE game!!! You cannot possibly justify that. If you bought it when it came out, in 2004 I think, you will have paid upwards of $720 by the end of this year to play it...NO GAME is worth that amount of money. I do not care about the content or whatever. There are so many RPGs out there that have a plethora of content that do not require a fee to play per month. There are even MMORPGs out there that are free every month (after the initial purchase). There is no way I would pay $15 a month to play any game...

And the irony is that most of the people bashing a service like, say, Xbox Live (what is that...$50 a year?) are the same people playing a game that costs $180 per year...

Value is in the eye of the beholder. Just because you wouldn't pay a certain amount of money for something doesn't mean others wouldn't gladly do so.

I would gladly pay $100 or more for a new Tool album, but many people aren't even willing to pay the $12 price tag in stores. Curious, isn't it?

Translation: I'm clueless and never played the game.... Blizzard is CONSTANTLY adding new content, fixing thing, correcting things, you pay so the game doesn't become stale, and keeps evolving, if you didn't pay they'd just give a little something every once in a while, the support would be a lot worse. Why do you think people play for hours and hours a day for years?

Ha...you know what ASSuming makes you, huh? Every single one of my roommates has the game, and I have made a character and leveled (correct terminology?) him to a 21. It was a Dark Elf (or Night Elf?) Warlock. I also made a Warrior, those huge pig guys, and lost interest when my seemingly 300lb monster sat there whomping a pink flamingo-esque animal ten or so times before defeating it. I then had to kill like 19 more...That was hardly worth the $50 admission, let alone the $180 per year to play it. Please don't assume people are not honest, you come off as arrogant.

I dowloaded the trial once.. Wasn't my thing. I only managed to get level 15 or so, but it was pretty much just a grind fest. I really don't understand why you would want to pay $15 a month.

MMORPGs are one genre I still haven't gotten into, a shame since there seems to be so many good ones and more coming out. I think I'm gonna try the free 10 trial, if the download isn't too big.

Never try FFXI. 250 days into the game and still roughly around 3/4's of the way through missions on the 1st 3 expansions. WoW is considered easy in comparison to FFXI by many but cannot tell your from my own opinion as never wanted to try WoW.

As someone who played from day one, had three level 60's one of which was the 8th Warlock to hit level 60 on my server, and quit just before Burning Crusade came out (raid or die mentality killed it for me), my opinion on the game is... It's a very good game - long lasting, fun (for a while), and maddeningly addictive for the many, many times that it's not really fun... But it is one of the few actual good games that I can say that what I got out of it is not worth what it took from me.

Whether it is Halo or Planescape: Torment or Civilization, there are lots of good to incredible games out there along with WoW. Very few of them last that long (I've dumped more time into Civ than I did getting three decked out 60's in WoW, which took well over a year of heavy play), but none of them that I've played (outside of EQ) takes as much from the gamer as WoW does - not even close. To really get into WoW, it demands you bend your schedule, your whole bloody life around coordinating with people for these massive undertakings which you accomplish and, as is the very nature of the game, those accomplishments become obsoleted again in the face of similar hurdles to leap for simiarly soon to be obsolete objectives. In order to cross these hurdles too, you'll find yourself spending hundreds of hours doing menial prep-work that has a similar feel to mowing every lawn in your city so you can go for a party. Even the PvP is turned into some sick honour farming exercise, sucking the enjoyment out of the quick type of quick competitive play a lot of other games offer with no strings attached... And what's worst is, the objective/reward mentality of this game makes this game so bloody serious that the people even start to treat this game like a job and not a game, and the people sabotage their own good time by turning it into a rat-race.

WoW is a good game - a very good game. Its goodness comes at too high a price compared to other games. When all is said and done, I looked at my dozens of days of playtime spent in WoW and thought to myself... So much of that was spent NOT having fun just for the intermittent great moments - and it was simply not worth it. That's my take on it. If you think it's worth it, fill your boots - but I'd strongly recommend taking a step back for a second and carefully analyzing what you put into this game, what you put out, and what the whole exercise costs you in real life (not monetry) terms.

Ah burning crusade would have been much nicer to you man, raid or die is basically none existant, many paths of progression for characters, I see what you mean though, if you really went by Pre-BC standards what you are saying is true, blizzard has done alot since then, making gold farming easier(hi dailies!),lowering raid numbers, introducing achieveable pvp gear etc etc.Took alot of grind out of the game which is a good thing.

Idon't know what RPGs you play, but most of the time the serious grinding doesn't start until the higher levels. In WoW by level 5 the missions were just "Go kill X number of this" or "Find X number of that" and I just went around killing things, and that's all. Normally the first levels are fresh and exciting, with lots of variety in the quests.

That's the odd thing about WoW. At the early levels, the quests are pretty much the same, but once you reach the higher levels they truly became extremely varied.

Sorry, I've been *very* closely following what my old WoW friends have to do to keep themselves going in that game. They changed the window dressing - slightly, placing more emphasis on the PvP grind and less on raiding, and made raiding smaller scale... But the fundamentals are still the same - a grind, and a chore, to advance. The game hasn't changed all that much. I don't know of a single one of my old friends playing to this day who will not attest to me one thing quite simply - yes, you still grind just as much. The increments are just smaller. Yes, PvP gear is attainable, but you will still spend months attaining it only to find it obsoleted by other types of gear when you get it. If you want to leave PvP you need raid gear - if you want to leave raiding you need PvP gear.

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining. I'd still strongly suggest you take a step back and see if it's joy in the game so much as addiction to its comfortable, familiar grind that has you playing.

I've seen what WoW does to people, sure it might be fun, it might be worth the $15 a month... but look at your life now, I'd rather not let that happen to myself.

I dowloaded the trial once.. Wasn't my thing. I only managed to get level 15 or so, but it was pretty much just a grind fest. I really don't understand why you would want to pay $15 a month.starwarsgeek112
You missed most of the game if all you saw was the grinding quests.

And yet, people bad mouth XBL. But hey, someone has to bash popular things to make themselves feel better.

IMO, WoW sucks :? My friend let me play his account for a month. I never opened up the game after the first day.

wow is no better than half the other mmos out there, its just more popular, and more popular =/= better.

EQ2 is equally if not better than wow alone, but it doesnt have warcraft in the name so no one cares.

swg pre-cu was better IMO and almost everyone who played that game would agree. wow is a really good mmo, but standards have to change. the game came out four years ago, and its getting to be very boring. blizzard turned its back on the hardcore players by killing the lore, lowering drop rates, and making lvl 58 green objecys better than the tier2 armor i worked my @$$ off for. if you're new to mmo's(guildwars and runescape are NOT mmorpg's) this is a must have. its pure fun until you spend 5 hours a day in the black temple

Wow WAS absolutely amazing, then Burning Crusade came out and noobified it and made it a grind fest. Grinding for all those reps was a bad idea, murdering world pvp with flying mounts and adding a new continent, was a terrible idea. Getting rid of 40 man raids, destroyed a lot of guilds.

Pre-BC, it was amazing, now it's a grindfest.

Yes, then there are the instances... Which you end up doing dozens of times to get what you want, or in other words, grinding them. Then there are the PvP battlegrounds which has material rewards attached to them so that people start "pro" honour farming groups which grind through non-organized players, meaning that you have to organize a group like that yourself and turn it into a grind in order to compete... And if you do turn out to be at all competitive, the other group will most likely just quit in order to save time as they farm honour, leaving largely ridiculously unbalanced matches going on. Arena... Similar problems.

Most of that game is grind. If he didn't go past the grinding quests, most of the part he missed more grinding of other types.

WoW is easily the most impressive game ever made, easily. Haters are mostly ignorant consolites, no offence meant, I'm a consolite just not restricted to only that, or people that haven't played the game or played it for a couple of hours, which is no way to "test drive" an MMO.

Eddie-Vedder

Most impressive game?

Oh come on, it's a pretty good game, and might be the best MMO ever, but it isn't the most impressive game EVER made, far from it.

There is no way I would pay $15 a month to play any game...KSU-Wildcat

I cant justify £2 a week for a game that I play more than my entire console collection this gen combined and then some?

Paying £40 a month for 6-8 hour next gen games is 10x worse.
