Its all in the thread title, you dont have to be a vet systemwarrior to realize that the free online multiplayer PSN offers has always been one of the biggest selling points of the Ps3 ever since the console launched, that feature has been used to justify the launch price, justify particular purchases and thrown in as an advantage the Ps3 has over the 360 along with the argument that despite the extra features Xbox live isn't worth it because it those are being forced upon users since the access to the online multiplayer (the main point of a service of that nature anyway) is also a premium feature available only for subscribers of the full package (Gold XBL accounts).
If Sony began to charge for online multiplayer as a premium PSN feature the same way Microsoft does with Xbox Live, not only those who supported the Ps3 with the argument would be owned but also those who have been paying for xbox live yearly fees and were not secure about their investment would gain the security that they're not being the only ones "ripped off" to put it in harsh terms because with both the Ps3 and Xbox360 having fees for access to online multiplayer it would be progressively considered as a premium feature and no longer a nickel and dime as it was 4 years ago. ¿two in distress makes sorrow less they say?
And of course, we can't set aside the "Hahahaha Now Ps3 fanboys are also paying for online the 360 is by far the best value, Sony had to make money somehow, PSN is still garbage and people now pay for it, Xbox live is superior" Factor, we are in system wars and everything that can be considered negative in the slightest is used for ownage.
Lets make it clear, Party chat, cross game chat and user interface is awesome with Xbox Live of course it is, but Only one Out of the four main gaming platforms we have in the market now charges their users to play their games online and that would be the 360, insecurity is bound to be off the charts and now that Sony seems to be preparing to launch a premium service with a hefty fee and yet still offer the basic feature ( Online MP) for all users, payed subscribers or not, what do we get. Mixed reactions thats what we get, If I bought a 360 at launch for Xbox Live and I've been paying for it ever since how much did it cost me to take full advantage of the capabilities of my console? More than 599.99$, believe or not and we were all taught at system wars school that no console should cost that much...right...? Oh but thats crazy, Microsoft doesn't force their users to pay for gold at gun point, its not a valid point so scratch that.
We're all consumers first and then gamers, we speak with our wallets and every Penny we shell out has to be justified, Gaming is not a cheap hobby. ¿Isn't that all SW is about after all?
*Disclaimer*
Im not saying Xbox Live Gold users are being ripped off, Some do feel that way others think its completely justified. Just to be clear.
