I do not understand the logic/mentality of people who only own 1 console. They seem to think that "system X" is all that they need for gaming, and that "system Y" is inferior.

You can walk into anystore and buy a console for $299. For such a reasonable price, why would you not buy a second system ?? It is common knowledge that some cross-platform games look better on "system X" while a few other cross-platform games look better on "system Y". Why would you accept the inferior version of such a game, why would you not want to get the best looking version ??

With only 1 console, you don't always get the best looking version, and you also miss out on the exclusive titles.

I know about3 people around my workplace who only have a PS3. And they bought the early models for $400 to $500. Now if they were able to spend $500 on a video game system, then they certainly are not "poor people". Why do they refuse to spend $300 on a 360 ??

note - My argument is also directed to people who only own a 360. If you consider your self to be"a gamer" then it is illogical to notown2 consoles.

I don't have time to play all of the games that 360 has to offer. I still have to get FFXIII, Bioshock 2, Modern Warfare 2, Alan Wake, soon to be Red Dead Redemption, and it seems like there are others that I am leaving out. Why on earth would I buy another console when one provides more games than I can play?

I had all three consoles, but one is dead and the other is collecting dust till galaxy. I only game on my PC and Ps3 anyway.. partly due to live costing money.

Because some of us don't have $300 dollars to blow and certainly don't see a need to spend on a system theres only a couple games we can't play on our current system?

TC your logic is flawed. Not everyone with one console thinks that way. Me personally, I have owned all the current gen consoles. I sold the Wii because I was bored with it and the current and future games did not interest me. 360 was good but the ripping game discs ruined too many games for me. My PC is pretty decent but there are no games that interest me on the PC and the ones that are interesting are also on consoles.

Numerous reasons.

  1. People don't earn enough money to have multiple consoles.
  2. People have money, but have different priorities.
  3. People do not play videogames as a strict hobby, and have little enough time to devote towards it.
  4. People simply do not want another console.

There's probably more, but at the end of the day, who cares (besides TC)?

This is the best answer I can think of. I have a ps3 and am in the same boat. Also, if there is 300 dollars worth of games you want for the system you have, seems like you're getting more value if you go that route.

If one is satisfied with what they have then what is the purpose of spending more money just to have "system x"? The only current gen system I have is a Ps3 and I am quite happy with it.

Would I like another console? Yeah sure, I'm a huge gamer (I have 8 consoles total) and definitely wouldn't mind playing some 360 exclusives but not a necessity that I need as those $200+ can go towards gas and college books.

Well I had multiple consoles every gen from the 16-bit era. This gen I only have one console I used to have two but I can't really afford to get another but I have a DSi and I'm getting a laptop on the 23rd the same day I purchase Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Why would you accept the inferior version of such a game, why would you not want to get the best looking version ??

spank_my_bottom

Interesting argument. One i would make in favor of getting most games on the PC as its generally the best looking version no? But many people dont do that. Figure out that answer and you'll get the reasons why.

I only have a gaming PC and im perfectly fine with it. I've got a back log of games large enough to last me quite awhile before even touching a console.

I have all three, but it's not remotely strange to only have one. Most people are on a budget. A 360, PS3 and Wii is nearly hitting $1000 just on games consoles.

The only console I would get as a second console would be the Wii, and that's because it's very different from the other 2 consoles. But PS3 and 360 are so similar, with most of the same game experiences, that it wouldn't be a priority to own both of them. In our house we have a 360 and a Wii, so we have 2 consoles.

Is this seriously a serious question? You know, some people have lives outside of gaming. They might not have time to play all these games.... Not to mention I have to pay for the other console, then its games etc etc. It is very understandable why you would only have one console.

1) Because there are countried with monthly payments no more than 540 to 650 euros per month. 2) Games in such countries are like 59 to 69 euros as well... 3) So its better to buy the "dominating" console ( as it was PSone and PS2 back in the days ) . 4) Last since there isnt a "Clear" winner this gen ... You have to own more than 1. But IF you can afford thats it... There are countries in this world ...that console gaming is a luxury. And no, not everyone can afford 2 consoles + their games..

Well if you have nothing to do in your life other than play video games, then maybe I can see where you're coming from TC. As someone who doesn't, I'll just say I don't care about graphics, and I don't care what I'm "missing out" on on the rival system.

MONEY!!!!! MONEY!!!!!

Ring a Bell? To add i have a PC and PS3. I justify not owning a 360 due to the PC where i can play some of the games i miss out on. 2 Consoles is just over the top and i find it hard to justify owning both the PS3 and 360. Another point is the fact that owning a 360 and playing on-line you have to fork out further money to play on-line. If you start playing your PS3 much more than your 360 then its yet more money down the drain. Both consoles share the majority of games as well. Owning a PCi hardly miss out on anything released. The Wii well yeah that's different and easier to justify owning due to its lower cost initially and its game library which share little in the way of similarity's to both the PS3 and 360 Library.

Not enough money, and honestly,PS3 is all what i need,360 and wii look boring to me,i think the PC sucks so there really is no point getting other systems. Inferior versions?i dont care, hell,i dont even have an HDMi and game on 562 (or w.e ) I am POOR,i might have the $400 version, but back then,i had no problems with $$$$

Yeah but if you're going to college, have to work part time, and pay for gas, it's not so easy to afford. I can understand if you're working full time though, but if it's minimum wage, that's still like a month's worth of work.

You know I think it's HILARIOUS to see all of these people talk about the inferior version of a game graphically and then when you read their posts carefully you find out that they had an SDTV or a cheap, crappy, small 720p HDTV. Most games on the PS3 and 360 are pretty much the same and they share so many multiplats it's not worth getting the second one unless you love their exclusive and for the 360, I am not really impressed enough to invest money JUST FOR THEM. I also own a Wii with my PS3 but honestly it get's so little play I might as well not even have it. I have always been a one console owner for the most part. Not because I am a fanboy but because my life doesn't revolve around video games and with girls and other hobbies I don't have enough time to invest in more then one system for it to be worth it. I usually carefully look at the system that has my most favorite franchises and stick with them.

Nothing on the PS3 or 360 interests me. I've got a Wii for a small number of its games, but I've yet to see a 360/PS3 exclusive game I desperately want - anything else I do want is either PC exclusive or multiplat, which suits me just fine ;).

Many people don't have the time or money to invest in multiple consoles, especially if you have multiple hobbies that require a serious time and money investment, or if they have a job and family, or if they are a broke college student in a serious major. I don't have nearly enough time to play all the good games between my wii and PC.

I don't have enough time to play all the games on both consoles. When I get a new game, I usually play through it 2-3 times and then maybe play the MP if I want to. I wouldn't be able to do this with multiple consoles. Plus I would have have certain friends on one system and then having friends on another system. I wouldn't like to pick and choose which multiplat I'll get for which system based on who I'm going to play with and I'll be damned if I buy 2 copies of the same game

Because my world is not centered around gaming and I don't have to play every game and it's best version. .

I only have a Wii as a console and also have a gaming laptop. I have plenty of friends who owns xbox 360 and ps3 and although I admit there are some games I really like to play (Heavy Rain, MGS4, Final Fantasy), I am satisfied with my Wii and Pc. Wii offers a vastly different experience than the other gaming systems and also I like Nintendo.

It is a matter of opinion and taste that is all.

i only have one console. though if i had all three id feel it'll be a waste of space to have in my room. only because i dont play games as much as i used too. i got the ps3 for gran turismo... its probably the only game i will be putting in the most hours into on my ps3. well with RDR coming out tomorrow im stoked! most of my game time has been going to TF2 & D2 for the past couple months. havent touch my ps3 for awhile...

I do not understand the logic/mentality of people who only own 1 console. They seem to think that "system X" is all that they need for gaming, and that "system Y" is inferior.

If you consider your self to be"a gamer" then it is illogical to notown2 consoles.

spank_my_bottom

Your logic is full of fail. I own a Xbox360 only and the only games I know that I am going to buy every year are Madden in August and the new COD in november. The last game I bought that wasn't 1 of these titles was SF4, all the other games I have purchased were GH games, RB, Scene it, GTA4, GeoW 1, and that is it. Why would I want a PS3? I play tons of COD and I play Madden for a good 5 months. Oh and I have 2 360's 1 of which i got for $199. This year I may check out Halo Reach but Halo 3 didn't appeal to me, definatley following GeoW 3. I don't play SP only games anymore just not as fun now that I can play MP online.

360 has the best online community, best service, and if you play multiplats there is no need for another console, it ends up being a waste of money cause guess what you spend more time on 1 console eventually

1. I have to buy other things

2. Why would I want a Wii/360?

I don't have the time nor the money to support two consoles. Sure, if I save up for a while, I can go out and buy another console. But then I'll have to spend a lot more money on getting necessary accesoires (a second control in the least, and an online subscription in case of the 360), and a lot of games to build up a decent library.

I've owned two consoles in the past generation (Xbox and Gamecube), and after it ended, I realised how many games I had missed out on on both consoles, so I had to actually go back and complete my Gamecube library when I already had a Wii.

Seeing as you're refering to PS3 and 360 mainly, the differences between the respective versions of multiplats are often so minimal that I couldn't care less. Not everyone is a graphics whore, you know.

There are still so many games I want for the Wii, that I am satisfied with it 'till the end of this gen. I do not think other systems are inferior, I just don't really care.

well, i don't think that $299 is necessarily a reasonable price for a lot of people. another factor is kids whose parents buy them a system. they can't exactly afford multiple consoles, and i'm pretty doubtful their parents are going to bite on spending additional cash. as far as it being illogical to not own 2 consoles, i would have to disagree. a lot of it is preference. perhaps a certain system's exclusives don't interest that person. why would it be worthwhile for someone to spend the money if the games don't interest them? i'm fortunate enough to be able to own all the consoles this gen, but if i had to, i could certainly make do with one, and not feel overly cheated. i also wouldn't consider myself any less of a gamer for doing so.

I'm a fan of good JRPGs. There's Lost Odyssey, but I'm not interested in it.

Actually, I'm a bigger fan of Survival Horror games. And you can probably see how well that is going. Eventually I need to pick up Siren: New Translation ...
