The ultimate showdown everyone has been waiting for.

Let's look at the facts:

Halo2 = 9.4

Half-Life = 9.2

PDZ = 9.0

Now, Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 came out near the same time, and it's clear that Halo 2 deserved the higher scores as it is much better than Half-Life 2. However, PDZ came out long after these 2 games and yet still scored 9.0 after Halo 2 raised the bar for FPS.

So, IMHO, PDZ is clearly the best FPS out there right now, or at least a top contender. Halo 2 is the best game I've ever played, and Half-Life 2 is just meh, i mean, it's not even popular.

I love you gamespot.

Halo 2 got a higher score than Half Life 2 because the Xbox's standards for FPS's were far lower than the PC'....

it was Half Life 2 that got Shooter GOTY that year....

what are you talking about? Halo 2 revolutionized FPS as we know it. Online multiplayer, capture the flag, 16 player servers! Seriously, get your facts straight.

hands down halo2. HL2 was an overated tech demo devoid of modern gunplay mechanics and a decent story. nothing more that a solid AA imo. pdz on the otherhand, well, lololol. at least it played well i suppose :P

Overall, not even considering the time (mainly talking about pdz) when they came out, but overall quality now:

Halo 2 > Half Life 2 > Perfect Dark Zero

graphically however, PDZ > HL2 > Halo 2

well, as sad as that may be, the original did loads for the genre even if hermits refuse to give it credit. it gave FPSs the shot in the arm they needed and brought forth a lot of mechanics that are still used to this day. and BTW, halo>>>>halo2

no, nt really. When a game sucks you in so much that you continue playing it after a next generation until its sequel, you know its good. I was done with HL2 in 2 weeks.

Halo 2 lasted to Halo 3. Wouldn't have been done if it werent for that.

HL2 is a lot like Bioshock. While both are good games, they're not as good as they say, and it's rather short and it doesn't last.

Only going with single player, I would rank it Half-Life 2 > Halo 2 > PD:0, and I am a sizable Halo fan. However, due to MP, I would say for me, Halo 2 beats Half-Life 2. PD:0 should not even be up there. CoD2 deserved AAA much more than PD:0 did.

first of all, halo. not halo2. and maybe not so much introduce, but bring them to the mainstream. things such as large setpieces. recharging health. limited arms carry, vehicles sections blended with normal shooting sections, a decent story, fantastic MP, ect ect ect...it was the complete package and became the gold standard in FPS (non stratigic) design. i sure as hell can't think of much prior to 2001 that did any of those things (at least well)...

No, Halo 2 was just a bad, extremely late port.

Halo 2 lasted to Halo 3. Wouldn't have been done if it werent for that.

see...people even today play Half Life 2...its kind of a classic game...the game lasted far longer than Halo 2 for most people....and I guarentee you the vast majority of people consider Half Life 2 a far greater game.

I seriously doubt that. While im sure a few people pplay it still (hell, someone played condemned for 700 hours on xbl), it is not really a replayable game like that. I seriously doubt that the average person can honestly say they played HL2 that much. It's about a 15 hour game. I played thousands of games in halo 2. And when I say that, I mean thousands, not just 1-2.
I know plenty of people just like me.

I can't win this debate though on the fact that Halo is the most hated game series in this forum

Halo 2 on pc = 7

Speaking about standards...

It got great score on console because there is not competition and standards are not so high as on pc

6matt6

Halo 1 - 9.0 on PC.

What else do you expect from consolespot?

Halo 1 - 85 @ PC gamer

Halo 1 - 91 @ PC gamer UK

Touché

PC Gamer's score was decent for the game, the UK one can be explained because... they are british :P

[QUOTE="ninjaxams"][QUOTE="AvIdGaMeR444"]Probably a joke thread, but I'm not 100% sure. There HAVE been Halo fans who actually believe Halo 2 revolutionized FPS. :lol:cobrax75

well, as sad as that may be, the original did loads for the genre even if hermits refuse to give it credit. it gave FPSs the shot in the arm they needed and brought forth a lot of mechanics that are still used to this day. and BTW, halo>>>>halo2

what mechanics did Halo 2 introduce to the FPS genre?

throw grenades with the L trigger? ZOMG!!!

ive been throwing grenades with the G key on my computer for the past 10 years.

first of all, halo. not halo2. and maybe not so much introduce, but bring them to the mainstream. things such as large setpieces. recharging health. limited arms carry, vehicles sections blended with normal shooting sections, a decent story, fantastic MP, ect ect ect...it was the complete package and became the gold standard in FPS (non stratigic) design. i sure as hell can't think of much prior to 2001 that did any of those things (at least well)...

PC games have had all those features since 1999.

examples???

OMG where to begin....

Large Setpiecies- too many to list.

Rechargin Health- Tribes

Limited Arms carry- pretty much every semi-tactical shooter out their

vehicals- tribes

decent story- half Life (duh)

fantastic MP- Wow....thats all I have to say....I can list dozens for this one.

thats all well and good but none of those games were the entire package AT ALL. and hl had a decent story? really? honostly?

tbh i did 4get about tribes.

Overall, not even considering the time (mainly talking about pdz) when they came out, but overall quality now:

Halo 2 > Half Life 2 > Perfect Dark Zero

graphically however, PDZ > HL2 > Halo 2

JackDaniels121

no, nt really. When a game sucks you in so much that you continue playing it after a next generation until its sequel, you know its good. I was done with HL2 in 2 weeks.

Halo 2 lasted to Halo 3. Wouldn't have been done if it werent for that.

Starsiege Tribes. Had more vehicles, more weapons, more features, bigger servers, tons and tons of mods, equipment (including rechargable shields), a dueling system, oh yeah, and JETPACKS. It was amazing.

oh and my mistake, it actually came out in 1998.

yeah. never got to play it. always wanted too though...

that would be implying that Halo was the perfect form of a shooter...which its not.

and yes HL did have a decent story, deffinetly far better than Halo's...in fact, Half Life was the first game to seriously bring storytelling into an FPS.
