I was just wondering what you System warriors prefer, the kinda gameplay that is familiar for years but perfected, by that I mean so good it's close to being perfect or innovative gameplay but is somewhat flawed, has drawbacks to it's new and unique take. BTW there are AAA examples in both types of games so its not like one is better than the other it's just up to the individual gamer. Oh and it's not strictly games related, could be games, peripherals, hardware, online etc. There is no option for both because that is impossible, there is always definitely one you prefer over the other, even if it's by very small %.

While we are at it why don't you give your own example if you can to go along with your answer.

Both. Which is why I own a PS3, home to God of War 3 and Heavy Rain in just the last few weeks.

flawed innovation. im getting bored of perfected execution to be honest. yes its perfect for what it is...but so was its predecessor...so ill just go and play that perfection. i have much more respect for devs (and am more willing to buy their games) that put themselves in a position where it can all go terribly wrong...but if they pull it off then itll be a cracker. like borderlands. diablo meets unreal..brilliant (and very hard to do right). even red steel. yes the devs messed up for numerous reasons but it had loads of ideas (hopefully RS2 turns out to be the game RS1 was supposed to be).

I'd much rather have something done incredibly well then have to suffer through something else that has never been done before but is being done poorly.

How is this not a no brainer?

Perfected Execution for me. Flawed innovation is...well...flawed & imperfect. Plus, innovation sometimes makes a sequel inferior to prior installments (Like B-K N&B when compared to Banjo-Kazooie & Banjo-Tooie).

I rather have a balance of both. Without flawed innovation we won't have anything to perfect.

Over the course of time, but this is about the here and now.

Say Game A does something new that has never been done before, but what it does it does poorly.

While Game B is the same thing but is done to a pristine level, it is done better than all before. Thus being "perfect".

______

Which would prefer to have?

If it were here and now then I would honestly choose flawed innovation. My reasoning being that Mirror's Edge has been my favorite game so far on this gen. :P

The parkour in Mirror's Edge was done extremely well, though. I wouldn't call that "flawed" innovation, mainly because of the glorious lack of flaws. ;)

eh i don't really care if something is either/or

as long as it's a good game and is fun, that's what counts

lots of games i've played are perfected, but boring or stupid

lots of games i've played are full of flaws, but lots of fun

same goes for the other way around, so i just try to find fun in games, games aren't an art gallery or anything

Modern Warfare 2 - Perfected Execution

STALKER - SOC - Flawed Innovation

I'd take flawed innovation, but only just. :)

Well, the combat was a little "iffy". Though I guess the innovation itself (parkour-style First Person Platforming) was rather "flawless."

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are a perfect example of that option. Anybody who has spent more than 3 hours on those game will be able to give a decent account of why. I would describe it basically as a semi-realistic shooter in a sandbox style environment which comes packed with an amazing atmosphere.

Perfected execution tends to be too safe for my tastes these days.

Original thread so you get +1.

So.. Bungie vs. epic with the first GEOW(yes I realize epic weren't first but they are pretty much credited for it)

Bungie, everytime.

I always like reading about new ideas, whether in games or not.

Yeah, I"m a Flawed Innovation guy.

In addition to that I would say that the pacing was rather off several times throughout the game and imo the best bit of the whole thing was the DLC which really allowed the player to do some amazing things.

I like both. It just depends on how I like the formula the developers have used and how the entire experience "clicks" together.

Depends on the game and what it accomplishes. But in the general sense, if you ask me: "Would you prefer to play Gears of War or Kill.Switch?" I would easily come back and say Gears of War.

Interesting question. Two recent releases, Assassin's Creed II and Mass Effect 2, are good examples of "Perfected Execution" vs. "Flawed Innovation," as you put it. I prefer the former myself, and I think the critical acclaim for those two sequels, which improved on innovative but undeniably flawed originals, backs me up there.

We still have to wait for the software line up before trully consider it *Perfected* execution, as it stands now it is more *Perfect Potential*.

As for flawed innovation:

BAM! THERE IT IS!Natal

It could bomb so bad that this kind of "controlerless tech" be never touched again with the Gaming Industry.

Perfect execution can be nice. Especially if the gamer has not experienced the imperfection that preceded it. However, many games series (and genres) get stale. Innovation keeps things fresh and interesting. I am always more impressed when developers give me a new experience rather than just giving me a better way to do something I have already done before.

I like flawed new ideas. In the end it is something you will remember more than perfect executin. IMO, Mario Galaxy is a perfect example of both into one.

for me it depends upon lots of things -- if the flawed innovation is actually something interesting and not something really dull like Spore and the perfected execution is virtually similar to lots of games out there , mostly then I would choose the former

Depends, for example I liked perfect execution in the first of a series as the series goes on however I would prefer flawed innovation as the 'perfect' execution would become generic stagnation *looks at COD*

Depends on what kind of flawed innovation and what kind of perfect execution we are talking about. If it's FPS Perfect Execution, hell give me a flawed innovation NOW!

Now if the flawed innovation is just plain horrific, I prefer a Perfect Execution of something not so new.
