Persona series = Best JRPG series?

There I said it, untill now not many have been brave enough to make such a thread,

More than likely due to the mass pillage and flaming the Topic master would recieve from the crowds of Final Fantasy fan boys

( and yes I just called myself topic master , as this is my topic I might go as far to declare myself topic king..)

The Final Fantasy series is getting stale, but it is still being hyped as the next messiah.

Wheres the hype for any persona game?

In MY opinion Persona is fresh and what the rpg market needs.

Therefore, Persona >>>(recent) Final Fantasy series

Persona is my favorite "Second series", but there is no way all four games (and if you must, Revelations: Demon Slayer) can top the Suikoden or Dragon Quest series.

There is not the depth nor insight to wrap a complete saga around the Persona games, and until that the series will not rival the primary JRPG schools.

Hmmm.If we were talking about pre FF X then I would say hell no. Those games were truly events, now it's really sad to see how badly Square has diluted the brand.

I played Persona 3: FES and thought it was pretty good, but I'm really not into the whole "anime teen fighting demons" thing. I dug the hell out of what they tried to do with Lost Odyessy though. JRPGs really need a new group of games that set it apart from all of the samey type stuff that Japan's been spewing out for the last decade.

Lost Odyssey is a step in the right direction, I'll agree... but really, P3 (and now P4) are breaking some of those 'samey' conventions that you mentioned and (not surprisingly) are being critically well-received as a result...

I still love Final Fantasy but I love SMT a lot more recently.

After FFX it's gone downhill.

Fire Emblem (if you consider it one), Tales and Suidoken (sp?) are good as well.

I still love FF, Foxhound just said what I was going to say.

I'm not dissing the game at all, but the TC acts like he is in the minority and is special because of it when he is quite actually in the majority.DeathScape666

That's why you hear so much about Shadow of the Collosus, No More Heroes, Okami, and such. I'm sure they aren't bad games, but they do get a lot of attention mostly because they are niche. This is coming from someone who loves No More Heroes, and wants to play Shadow of the Collosus after missing out on it.

FF and DQ still have much bigger fanbases.

Oh lord, P3 is going to become the FF7 of the SMT franchise. :cry:

In all honesty, Atlus is really starting to eclipse Square Enix as my favorite RPG developers. I absolutely love P3, P4, and the DDS games. The last time I had this much fun playing a turn based RPG was probably with FFX.

Hmm, well I've only played Persona 3, and I'll be off to get 4 on friday.... So I can't say if it's the best since I've never touched the first two. But all I can say is Persona 3 is my favourite game.....

The Shin Megami Tensei series as a whole is the best JRPG series in my mind. Persona 4 happens to be my favorite of the lot, but Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 are close behind it. Even the "mediocre" Devil Summoner is still pretty darn good. I like everything about SMT. I just wish I could get access to the actual SMT stand alone series that started it all.

I'd say Pokemon and Final Fantasy round out my top 3 JRPG franchises.
