The PES demo was very disappointing. The gameplay hasn't changed much.
I love how strength plays such a big part in FIFA's core gameplay. I think it's safe to say that FIFA has finally topped PES when it comes purely down to core gameplay.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I was planning on making a topic like this soon. FIFA looks like it will best PES once again, without question.musicalmaclol, speak of the devil. not often you get into a thread quicker than I :P
:o How did you know!!!
lol, speak of the devil. not often you get into a thread quicker than I :PJandurin
I used my special mod speed. :P
I will give FIFA 10 major probs this time, the game finally plays very well core gameplay wise like long passes and shooting, it is enjoyable and at last I could pass defense and dribble is effective too unlike last year, it was impossible to pass defense even with the top players which is not true in real life.
The animation is incredible makes a big difference between both games.
Other than that, they should focus on tactics and players more because there is no difference between messi and a player like Eto, or Zlatan, thats a major downer for FIFA and they didn't bring signature animation, move set and play for certain players, individualism in other words.
There is no satisfaction playing with kaka or messi or top players because no matter how much they are strong, a bigger player always gonna have an advantage which is not true in real life, I wanna have my moment with messi or big players like they do in real life, they have their moments and they have not in FIFA still.
And the other aspect is the tactics, a 4-3-1-2 information is a 4-3-1-2 information for all of the teams, there is not difference between a JUV 4-3-1-2 or a Bayern or a Chelsea 4-3-1-2.
It is like playing International Super Star Soccer for the snes, amazing gameplay but no difference between teams or players and only plays with standard tactics.
If they naill these two major aspects, Im gonna switch to FIFA forever.
However, this year Im gonna buy both games because both really are amazing.
----------
My impressions of PES 2010 as it is my primary footy game.
The graphics are insane, this is the first time I see PES excels at graphics, they are very crisp and the facials of each player is incredibly detailed and scary because they look like real life.
the animations are way better, the gameplay is more slower and the AI is way difficult, Im playing on regular and Im having some trouble with ai.
The revamp of the tactics system called team style is the most realistic feature and best of the series, just deep, very deep tactics that could be seen in the gameplay, there are alot of options to change the team style of gameplay from player support to support range, lets talk about support range, for example, if I put the gauge 100 the players will be close to each other which make the team plays quick passes, put it mid range or zero and the team play long passes, amazing feature.
Same thing is player's style of play, there are cards that can't be changed which I call the skills of each player like quick turn...etc and there are cards that you could change for each player such as offensive play for middle players to let them go with the offense when the team attacks.
These aspects were present in the PES series a long time ago but the revamp of it made it even more realistic and there are more tactics than ever now that didn't exist in the past PES games.
I advice you to play PES more and then judge again, it takes a while to see the difference.
Btw, The demo of pes 2010 is 70% code so it is incomplete unlike FIFA's 90% code, I know its a stupid move by konami but at least give it more time.
Found this delicious video. Simply delicious.musicalmacthats was ...... awesome ... to bad I cant do any of those :(
i love the new fifa though i didnt realy like 09where pes on the other hand has hardly improved at all. the graphics are sharper at most and the dribling has been changed only slightly for the better because the 360 dribling is not put to its full potentiol because of the fail running anamations and the way you just nock the ball ahead of you all the time. the audio in the game is still pwnd by fifa and so are the menus. fifa flows much faster and smoother with much less "wtf why did he just do that" moments as pes. O and pes still has a boxy robotic repetive feel and the ball is stil made from leead.
FIFA has been destroying PES since 2006 (FIFA 07) so its not suprising. 7/7 times, ive converted die hard PES fans once they played the recent FIFA editions. And these are people are literally SW fanboys types so its pretty suprising to see a sudden change.
Ive actually got the demo downloading now on the PS3 so il report back with my impressions.

FIFA10 demo is out, for all you NA folks. It also happens to be fantastic. Gotta love that they threw the MLS a bone with the Chicago Fire.
At least it's my favorite domestic team.
Here are a couple more recent vids, it's pretty clear which game is superior (if there was any question left).
FIFA10. PES10.
Not. Even. Close.
I loved PES, was the greatest football game for many years despite the wailing of the FIFA fans. Konami just got greedy and started releasing FIFA like updates to the series while EA went the other way.
FIFA is now king and will be my game of choice this year.
Any controller with two analogs, I'm guessing. I don't see why not.Can those tricks be done with a ps3 controller?

I've always preffered PES over Fifa. This year is no different. Maqda7Did you look at those video links I provided? If so- WHY?? :?
Yup, FIFA09 beat the hell out of PES09, FIFA10 took the beating to a whole new level. and thats coming from a huge ex-PES fan.-CUBE-Agreed. FIFA 09 is my favorite soccer game of all time (save for Super Soccer on the SNES :P). FIFA 10 plays even better.
After playing both demos on the PS3 I say:
-the goalie is better on fifa.
-the graphics of fifa are technically better, but the player faces are vastly better in pes.
-dribbling is more fluid on fifa.
-better animations for fifa.
-pes's pace is better.
-Altho i'm a pes vet and never played fifa before, i found it much easier to score goals on fifa despite the stupid pes goalie (palyed both games on medium).
-the defense in both games is absolutely HORRENDOUS.
-more tactical options in pes.
-i like the pes replay feature more, but that might be just me.
in the end, i think people are going to enjoy whichever game they choose!
Well I'll give my opinion: where I'm from a person wouldn't want to be caught dead playing Fifa, and it's usually Winning Eleven through and through.
That being said, the Pro Evo games have been getting consecutively worse and Konami just seems to be not trying as hard. This could be due to a number reasons (my favorite speculations are that they being Japanese developers, just don't want to innovate and change, and so stick to the same old same old, as it is "working". But I'm sure that's not true) but none can be really addressed at this point. It's why I haven't bought a soccer game in 4 years.
Now, there's also the fact that EA have more money than Konami, and I believe actually have licensed teams? They probably have more room in their budget as opposed to Konami who's tried-and-true formula is still working for them.
On a side note, I have a question: How are Konami doing with online? As in, are we now able to play a full match with anyone on the Internet without a moment's lag? Has it improved at all? How is it compared to FIFA? If the soccer sims do have online at all. As I've stated my disappointment has kept me from buying any of them this gen.
Lastly, and people seem to be forgetting about this one is: Konami seem to be more focused on the Wii version. Ever since 2008 they have tried to somewhat revolutionize and make more enjoyable the soccer simulation games. And since the Wii version was well received, Konami has probably put their developers' focus on that one more.
So for me personally? I'm torn between getting the Wii version with a different control scheme, or the ps3 version that everyone has. If I'm going to buy one at all.
Found this delicious video. Simply delicious.musicalmac
PES movements are so rigid..and the whole gameplay feels so artificial..:? it feels like a bunch of passes and patterns memorized by the players, and they take turns executing these patterns till the final whistle. There's no "midfield battle" what so ever. And the tackling is just..:( PES falls behind in FIFA in so many ways, I don't know where to start. Here are a couple more recent vids, it's pretty clear which game is superior (if there was any question left).

Are you trying to say that you actively ignore another game in favor of one you typically played in the past? I hope the same isn't true of Sonic games... :?I don't like dwelling into a game like you guys are currently doing. I just feel that PES suits me more than Fifa, always has.

Are you trying to say that you actively ignore another game in favor of one you typically played in the past? I hope the same isn't true of Sonic games... :? Not at all. I ALWAYS try both games before making a purchase and everytime i've prefered PES.Fifa 10 has improved but it's one of the least upgraded game in the series. Not much has improved, it pretty much feels exactly the same. Minor tweaks here and there. Counter attacks are actually counters now, the body strength thing. That's really all worth mentioning. I'll probably skip this one. I hate buying a new Fifa game every year.SeteketWhat? 360 degree dribling alone is a huge improvement. not to mention the improved tackling, it makes a huge difference.

Yeah, loved it too. Being someone who used to play ISS, naturally i went the ProEvo way, when it was still called Winning Eleven. I think Konami effed up at the start of this generation by focusing on the Wii version. Who were they trying to appeal to? Definitely not the majority of their fans, as people who frantically played PES on their PS2's were naturally going to drift to either the PS3 or the 360.I loved PES, was the greatest football game for many years despite the wailing of the FIFA fans. There is 360 dribbling in PES 10 and improved tackling lol, anything they do in trailers even if it is an old aged feature in PES makes you believe it's better/new? lol, this so called improved tackling existed in PES alooooooong time ago, not saying it is a bad thing for FIFA but nothing to brag about.
I say play the game then judge, watching videos doesn't do justice for both games.
Please my bro watched the trailers of NBA live 10 and he was going to buy the game this year just because how amazing they do in trailers, after playing the demo and actually feeling the controls he went meh.
I enjoyed the PES demo more than the FIFA demo. imo, PES graphics are better, I also love the controls, presentation and whatnot. therefore, PES 10 for me this year. also no more Konami ID/Server crap. I did not like the FIFA demo, also the graphics are awful, I heard the graphics are bad on PS3, maybe thats why. also dont like the controls, and it is too easy to score in FIFA.

The game feels much more free flowing now, with quick and concise passing being the key to scoring. The manager mode has been upgraded as well. What else would you have changed?

I'd really suggest PES Wii. To me, it's the most immersive soccer game I've played in a long time.
Yes, you do lose on the graphics - but the control scheme more than makes up for it. I've logged a crazy amount of hours with 08, then with 09. While I'm sad to bypass the graphics of PS360 versions ... to me gameplay >>>> graphics.
It does take a while to get the remote+nunchuck method down, but once you've got fast moves down ... it's quite fufilling to set up plays and run the whole team.
