Yes...
Curiosity is not a game. It is a social experiment to see how people spend their money on DLC in Free-to-Play games(even Molyneux doesn't deny that). The Diamond Pick-Axe is the extreme. He doesn't expect anyone to buy it, but the experiment would be incomplete if it was not offered.
Molyneux just wants to know if curiosity(hence the name of the experiment) is a powerful enough motivator to encourage users to spend money, completely devoid of all other motivations(including fun because the "game" is not fun... it is literally just slowly picking away at nothing in the hope of eventually finding out what will be unlocked).
Wow he really is insane. And this "game" sounds ridiculous, expected in the next 2 years? You could probably program, make all the art for, and release that in about 2 months.bobbetybob
Curiosity is not the game.... Curiosity and the other 20 something experiments that will be released in the next two years are just experiments to gather data to help inform the design of the primary game.
Clearly you are not.......its an experiment, not real dlc you and me would purchase.........did you even read the article?http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-07-06-USD50-000-dlc-nothing-to-be-ashamed-of

Poor Molyneux, after all the hardships and the raping of his franchise Micro$oft has put him trough...this is how he ends up. Completely mental...
Would be hilarious if someone bought the $50,000 pickaxe and the cube ended up being opened by someone with the standard one hitting it right after he does.

Do EVERYONE a favor and at least read the thread and article before posting in the future.
I love how nobody seems to understand what Molyneux is attempting to do, yet everyone feels the need to mock it despite their ignorance.
22 Can is developing a game to be released sometime in the next three years, but while they are working on it they will also be releasing 22 "Experiments." These experiments are designed to test the boundaries of gaming and really probe everything from player interaction to monetization... Curiosity is the FIRST of these 22 experiments, and it is centered on the F2P Monetization model and the nature of player motivation. It is an experiment to see whether "curiosity" is a powerful enough motivation to encourage players to play a game and spend money on the game. The $50,000 item being sold is just the extreme representation of player motivation whereby a player is so motivated by curiosity that they will spend obscene amounts of money just to satisfy their desire to find out what is inside the box...
It isn't insane, it is different. Honestly, it is rather intelligent. Why waste 3 years developing a game that will not motivate players to play or spend money? If you can put out an experimental game like this and get a lot of people playing and a lot of people buying, then you know that curiosity is a strong motivation and thus a worthwhile thing to build your game around.
That's quite intriguing... I bet it will be bought eventually, there are some pretty cooky people out there.

Being the person that opens it doesn't mean anything. It is not a race to be the person that opens it. Everyone playing the experiment is working together. When it is opened, everyone wins.
Only the person that does the last tap gets to see what's in it.[QUOTE="KingsMessenger"][QUOTE="MetroidPrimePwn"]

Sorry.
Everyone makes mistakes :)I did see one website suggesting that part of the experiment is seeing how long it takes people to decide to work together and pool their money to buy the Diamond Pick-Axe...
Start the Kickstarter now?
Certainly is my friend. Been known for years.http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-07-06-USD50-000-dlc-nothing-to-be-ashamed-of

Not necessarily. Once opened, it could be shared with players of the game pretty quickly. Basically, it would just need to hit Twitter, Reddit, or NeoGAF, then it would quickly hit everything else. It is just a matter of the community getting organized enough to ensure that a member of one of those communities actually opened the box and not just some random dude that has no idea what is going on.

Peter Molyneux reminds me of that guy from Jurassic Park that gets eaten on the "john.".....
