Gizmodo : But do you plan for the future , include original Xbox games ?

Phil Spencer : It's something I want to do. It is a matter of priority. I would love to have the ability to play Xbox 360 on PC at some point too, so have different things we have to think when we plan these things. But it would be great to have support for original Xbox games. So yes, I want to do, but has many other things we want to do well. People fight with me for not having background music (laughs), so we have much work to do. Which is great! It's great to have that feedback.

Looks like people will eventually be able to play 360 (and OG Xbox) games on their PCs without the need for an Xbone or any Xbox. Makes sense with Microsoft's current plan of bridging the gap between Xbox and their other products, namely Windows.

Phil Spencer has shown more dedication to PC than past Xbosses with 1st party games like Fable Legends, Gears Ultimate, and Sea of Thieves coming to PC. A few months ago he also commented on why games like Quantum Break, Scalebound, and Crackdown 3 were not announced for PC, it was because they didn't start develop for PC, and he seemed to be implying they (as well as many others) will eventually make their way onto the Windows 10 store on PC.

I'd say Phil Spencer is doing a good job keeping his promises this gen, thank you Phil. I think he also threw in a jab at Sony about the Vita(lol) in the article, great guy.

If they allow the ability to configure a mouse and keyboard I'm down, otherwise this is just a redundancy for Xbox One to Windows 10 streaming that I already do.

More stuff on PC, the better

The difference between streaming and BC is that with BC you won't need an Xbox One.

This is just good PR speak, Spencer is good at it. Nothing wrong with what he said, but I really wouldn't look into it too much. It's just an answer that doesn't rule anything out and a crowd pleaser.

Now with the man's work into getting actual BC, I actually wouldn't rule out the possibilities though.

I want at the least the OG XBox stuff on a store or something as well.

Not just so I can play a game I already own (Ninja Gaiden Black), but also to repurchase games I don't own any longer like Otogi.

Sounds like he's not committed to doing anything of the sort.

He basically made a similar comment to this before and then we got BC (well a form of BC) on Xbox One. Might not be number 1 on his priority list, but I'm sure it'll come.

Still doubtful, largely because many of the games offered on the OG Xbox were still offered on PC, plus just to run original Xbox games on the Xbox 360 MS had to pay Nvidia a bunch of money just to be allowed to emulate original Xbox games (they made original GPU).

Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if they did too, especially since the Xbox 360 emulation for Xbox games sucked for many games. If a modern emulator improved it then hell, why not. Problem is, some of those old gems might now have publishing issues.

If this is possible and microsoft is really committed on doing this then I will instantly become a blind microsoft fan. I really want to play the otogi series but OG xbox with the game is rare to find around here.

I've been hearing about 360 emulators since it came out and still none, I don't think it's ever going to happen.

I admire Spencer's ability to give vague, non-committal answers.

They get exponentially harder to make as the generations go by. I still haven't found a reliable PS2 emulatr.

I think this is more of a indicator that games will be a all encompassing service rather then a dedicated device. Sony is working on it and xbox is working on it, soon we will see if this is nintendo's plan when they unveil their new system next month or so.

Yup,,, huge improvement over last iteration. It's running some AAA games at 60fps. Few months ago it was full of glitches and bad fps. As I said, it's right around the corner. Ps3 emulator is also coming along nicely. In a year or so, it'll be stable. DX12 helped them a lot. Watch this. Much better:

Wonder how he plans on stopping piracy. Correct me if I'm wrong but the only copy protection there was, was firmware on the DVD drive to check to see if the disc was a writeable, which was circumvented on the Xbox360 days after release. On PC there is no such thing.

They could go down the xbox live marketplace thing route using downloaded encrypted executables but that would require a re-purchase and would get cracked rather quickly too as PC's are not built with a master key and custom chips like the consoles so any decryption would be software which a cracking group would find the key for quite quickly.

I doubt this will happen.

@yourdeadgrandpa: Dolphin works good (for most games), PCSX2 was poor to unplayable for the dozen games I tried.

It'll be cool if they DO ever make one but when even 6th gen consoles still either lack emulators (Xbox) or only have crap performance (PS2) then I don't expect much of the 7th/8th gen ones.

Never used Dolphin but PSCX2 works like charm. I still play some of my favorite PS2 games on it. The only game that still have problems is MGS 3. SoTC is my favorite PS2 game and I still play it from time to time on emulator, since I no longer own PS2.

No it's not, Microsoft's largest revenue source is Windows, they should be creating games that run on Windows. Xbox is a side line that brings a fraction of the dollars that PC brings them.

@GarGx1: software for business is where the money is. And business doesn't do gaming... You've missed the part where windows 10 was free for windows 7-8 users?

@FastRobby: and you missed the part where around 90% of PC's in the world are running Windows. They went free with Windows 10 for domestic users because they stand to make far more from advertising if they can get the majority of people using Windows on to Win10. Their goal is to eventually only have one O/S not hundreds of millions people on several different builds. Gaming will form a major part of that enticement.

Haven't you noticed how much MS push advertising? I'm sure you have with your Xbox One, well they want to make even more from doing that on PC as well and that's not going to come from business users who have IT guys and will block it all.

I'd like to be able to play Xbox and Xbox 360 games on my PC. There are some games that I missed out on because I gave up on the hardware. I hope it happens. I doubt it will be any time soon, though.
