Photorealistic graphics is right around the corner, but AI seriously is lacking.

I think the days of games looking photorealistic are about 3 years away, but when are we going to see A.I that really wows us?  Im thinking we are 10 years away from games with tremendous A.I

We won't hit it this gen.  Maybe something close but I think there will always be some sort of difference between a game and RL.

As for AI, the only current gen game I've played with alright AI is Resistance and thats because enemies will hunt you down sometimes if you're hiding.

Photorealistic graphics are overrated.  They only tend to make the things that don't look perfect stand out even more.  I'll take a great art style, (say something like Crackdown or Okami), over photo-realism any day.  And if the devs stop striving for photorealism in everything, maybe they will have more processing power to devote to better AI.

We're not allowed to say things along the lines of 'I'd hit it' anymore, right? Hrm.. Well, that does look awesome and all... I'm pretty sure that we're a long ways off from real-time realistic looking things. Even now, half of the amazing looking things usually have some sort of massive achilles' heel in how they look that makes it not as awesome as the screenshots posted here try to make it appear.

I think photorealism is very overrated.  if i wanted an environment to look incredibly real, i'd go outside, and if i wanted a woman to look incredibly real,^ i'd go on a date....and i dont think we'll have graphics like that for several years

The thing is , You can make smart AI. But .....It cheats. Even if it can't see you, the programming tells it where you are, waht weapon you are using and more

A.I.'s are  not too shabby these days, I was impressed sometimes in FEAR with the bots flanking, and every once in awhile in R6:V.

uhh, 3 years away fro graphics..? maybe, probably less. In terms of AI, ive been owned multiple times in Resistance. After taking out about 3 or 4 Chimera and running into the next room to be smaked by an enemy who had held back during the fight to catch me by surprise. I mean, thats fairly impressive. 10 years is a little much, really. I mean, think 10 years ago where AI was...i mean, was there AI? Before Half-Life stuff pretty much just ran on shoot this when you see it kinda stuff....well, as far as I can tell.

No way. Photorealism in games is still at least 25 years away. Even CGI can barely reach that, and it probably takes hours if not days to render a single frame, let alone process it real-time. But I agree with a lot of other people, I enjoy a good art style over photo realism. A lot of games have gone for a look more akin to a computer animated movie. But lets face it there will always be certain genres or styles of games where trying to look realistic will be necessary.

You can't compare 10 years in the future to 10 years in the past. The rate at which technology evolves is exponential, and therefore you can't compare the future and the past.

The problem is, If we did have photorealism, Wouldn't we lose a sense what is real ans what isn't?
Like holodeck in Star Trek, Even Picard got caught up  a lot
