Well actually "people with less sophisticated minds" and apparently he has no regrets and wouldn't trade this experience for anything. Moreover he had forked $10m from his own pockets.

This guy... He makes Carter Burke look like Dalai Lama in comparison...

And you know that some people actually defend this game and say it was victimized? And don't see anything wrong with it? Like even a single glitch?

I just can't believe in the level of audacity and delusion he exhibits.

"Burke: So I made a decision and it was... wrong. It was a bad call, Ripley, it was a bad call.

Ripley: Bad call?

[Ripley grabs Burke by his vest, shoves him against a wall]

Ripley: These people are *dead *,Burke! Don't you have any idea what you have done here? Well, I'm gonna make sure they nail you right to the wall for this! You're not gonna sleaze your way out of this one! Right to the wall!"

While I agree that the game is crap, I don't think -all- of his statements are the talk of a crazy person. When you work a project, even if the project was a complete failure, that doesn't mean the time you spent on it was a complete waste.

Jim Sterling countered this perfectly.

Always makes me laugh when developers of dumb games throw Bitch fits about their dumb looking games. David Jaffe threw one a few months ago, it was hilarious

When you work a project

Gearbox didn't make the game. Biggest issue about that whole game wasn't just that Aliens CM was a shit game, because it would have been one thing if Gearbox had just fucked up because they sucked. But they didn't even make the game, they outsourced a project to some other devs that no consumer knew about before buying. While taking Sega's money (who were also too stupid to check on their project) and then funneling it into their own projects (Borderlands 2), because they thought they could get away with it.

And more or less they did. He's not being some righteous asshole, he's just being an asshole.

So he thinks it's perfectly fine sell people stuff on false advertising. I would say you can make whatever you want at a quality level of whatever you want, but when it comes to selling to people with the an attempt of deception there is a problem.

I suppose in a way he is right, Gearbox didn't try to sell the game, Sega did, and didn't they admit they falsely advertised it in the end?

I'm sure Sega are thrilled that he is digging up this again.

He blatantly lied in his marketing to sell this game. Calling him out on it is not the marks of a sadistic or stupid person. Him saying things like this just means I will never buy another Gearbox game. Not like I am missing out on anything, Gearbox is more hit-or-miss than Tim Burton.

I think it's funny he bow claims he lost $10 million of his own money on Colonial Marines, saying he needed to sell 3 million copies to break even. Probably half-true, but utter bullshit. He likely benefited handsomely from Brother In Arms, Borderlands 1 & 2 and the DLC, and Duke Nukem, which is where the misappropriated funds went.

I remember reading from one source that Gearbox got upward of $50/60 million for the project from Sega. And in another leak it said TimeGate (the ones who made it) got about $10 million from Gearbox.

I've said it before, but it's the most fitting analogy, it's like that one Breaking Bad intro that went further into Walter giving Jesse his life savings to go buy a camper, and Jesse and his friends went to a strip club and spent nearly all the money on strippers, drugs, alcohol, then as the sun is rising and they're exiting the club Jesse suddenly realizes (paraphrasing) "oh damn yo, I gotta buy a RV and I only got $1000 yo!" and his friend is all like "I can get you an RV for $1000" and they go steal the RV from the friend's mom... that, that's so what fucking happened with this game. Gearbox spent all the money on other games at their benefit, but they had to deliver a game and in the end they went with TimeGate, a fucking horrible company with a horrible record just looking at their history on Wikipedia should have been enough of a deterrent, but they didn't care about quality, they just needed a game finished to give to Sega as for the contract. What's not so obvious about that? A shit company getting 1/5th or 1/6th the budget ($10 million) just to pump a game out. They had no intention of making a good game.

Now, Sega could have probably sued Gearbox in the end, but they totally lost that opportunity when they actually published the game. The current lawsuit against Sega and Gearbox a judge already took Gearbox off the lawsuit, probably because in the end the fault lies with Sega for publishing it in the end, and that fault lies with them. Still, that in no way clears Gearbox of their part in the fiasco, but Randy Pitchford has been trying to use the "we got taken off the lawsuit" as proof of no wrongdoing.
