Planetside 2 Video: Watching this is better than console gaming

Last night three friends and I (in the same room) rolled with 40 people in a 'platoon', we were in larger battles than those pictured in this video.

Best ... Game .... Experience, in 5+ years. At one point there were 100+ tanks lobbing into a base from a hill, at which point we parked 3 sunderers and spawn rushed the base with all manner of ordinance. Unbelievablly intense, awe inspiring size.

Gaming in 10 years is going to be uncharted territory, and this is a nice preview of that.

Sales are definitely the one thing console gaming has in this 'argument'. But I would suggest that the price point of PC gaming is the explanation for that, rather than the quality of console games.

Take Halo 4 for example: you clearly love it, but did you know that you're playing the same linear game from PC gaming in 1998? If you KNEW what planetside 2 was like, which I do, then you wouldn't say that.

As-is you're basically telling me the sky is yellow from your basement, while I'm outside looking at a blue sky.

How can you dismiss a revolution in gaming ala 1000v1000v1000 fighting for planetary control? How can you suggest that 8v8 in tiny maps is still fun? (or are you 13 yrs old?)

On console you're dealing with companies that are trying to maximize a burst of money for the smallest investment.

On PC you get games like LoL and Pside2 which have a more long term goal, and the profit is a prolonged trickle of cash.

Did you know that more people play LoL than Halo? When Pside2 releases on Nov. 20 you'll see the same thing.

But ... keep your head in the sand ostrich, it's much easier than having to change your opinion.

Let's play this game: use an argument of game merits.

Ignore sales, 'mass market opinion' etc.

Planetside 2: 3000 people on a map, mass strategy, vehicles, jet packs, etc

Halo 4: 8v8, same guns, same basic maps, same game as Halo 1

The only legitimate argument for Halo against Planetside comes from fanboyism, money issues, or ignorance.

But ... take the CS beta VS Quake example. Why did the PC crowd insta-migrate to CS?

Layers of complexity and 'more' were added. Guns with recoil, objectives, etc.

So while more != better, depth and addition to the meta game (for PC gamers) is better. Clearly the 'head in sand' crowd doesn't care, but frankly they probably couldn't handle PS2 anyway.

As with everything there is a balance, consoles are on the far end of the scale, ARMA 3 is on the other end. Arma games (IMO) trip over the 'good complexity' into 'why is this so obtuse?'

Had CS simply been Quake with CT/T skins/guns it wouldn't have taken off. BF3 console gamers are future PC gamers :)
