Play Magazine scores should not be counted

I don't understand why Metacritic considers this a credible source. I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but here are some questionable scores from Play:

KotOR-75

Kirby Canvas Curse-65

Sonic 2006-85

Lair-90

Does anyone agree with me?

Im surprised you didn't mention their Darksiders review (100/100) that Vigil then used in close to every damn commercial for the game

Well it is all opinion, I'm sure you'll see the many posters and myself proclaim 7.5-8.5 games being better then alot of AAA rated games , just saying.

The editor of Gameinformer once accused Play of accepting bribes for scores. The EGM editor accused Play as well of doing the same thing.

They need to be stoned for giving KotOR a 75 while broken and glitchy games like Sonic 06 gets a 85.:lol:

He was more of a nutjob than a bad guy imo. And Lair wasn't that bad once you got used to the controls, and they even patched easier controls so there's really nothing bad about it except lack of decent multiplayer.

it seems like they give all JRPGs, and they just give games that are different but not necessarily good, a decent score.

PLay Mag and Game Pro i think are the worst ones.

RPGfan shouldn't be counted either, but it's on metacritic too.

All reviewers give questionable scores, it's nothing new. if we went by this logic no site/magazine would be credible. You have to look at each game's reviews with discretion and pick and choose what are the pros/cons that are given by the majority.

My problem with review scores is that it puts pressure on games to be 9.0+ otherwise many people won't buy them. I'm not saying games shouldn't strive to be the best, but many games below that mark are still fun as hell to play. The irony is that people speak of elitism all the time in the gaming world and yet most without knowing are elitists in such a way that they will go from a buy to a rent because of such without noting whether the flaws would kill the game for them. And I know someone's gonna come along with a sales chart to moot my opinion, but I'm referring to 'most' games, there are some exceptions where marketing somehow prevailed.

Play Magazine's staff seems to love the oddball games. Truth be told, I don't particularly care what they grade games or what anyone else grades games, but when I read Play's reviews, their writing always gives me a sense that they genuinely love video games and they're not there to critique it as much as just give their enthused and unabashed opinion, which, to their tastes, is entirely different to most gaming publications, especially Official Xbox Magazine, which seems to love FPS/TPS games more so than any other genre (they gave Frontline: Fuel of War a 9 for goodness sakes). Whatever. Their opinion. I like reading Play, however. They seem more like gaming enthusiasts than anything else, and when it comes to mainstream darlings, they don't sound like extended advertising campaigns.
