Upscaled to 720p though HDMI

the game looks fricking amazing.

Now I understand why ART DIRECTION IS so important. It was so Rich and Vibrant.

And this is after playing many PS3 and 360 games.

Gears of War may have good Graphics, Techincal but everything looks like Brown or Grey Smudges.

If you only saw Brown and Grey whilst playing Gears, I think you should get a TV.

Gears is colourful and vibrant, great use of contrast as well.

Yes but the overall Art Direction was Generic. The sky was Gray, Floors and walls were either brown or grey.

Thats weird, because I thought FFXII actually had a very dull palette, with many browns and pale greens.

That being said, I loved the game. My favorite since VII.

Gears art direction was obviously intentional and well thought out and IMO it was brilliant. It set the tone and mood for the game quite well. Lots of colors doesn't automatically mean the art direction is good.

I liked the dull colors. What i didn't like was the horrid character designs. Lets just put Vaan aside...hard to do cuz there's so much crap you can say about him, but look at Ashe and Basch. What's w/ the hot pink miniskirt? It does not fit in with ANY color on her or in the game. Basch is just all wrong in every way. They need to tone down the wackiness in the character designs. Maybe take a page from VP2 (Rufus and Alicia). This whole thing started w/ Tidus I swear.

But my favorite 2 characters in the game Fran and Balthier(he is my favorite FF character of the series now, and Ive been playing them since the original) had great character designs. Ashe Ill agree with and Basch was a little strange, though I did enjoy his character as well.

FFXII upscaled on the PS3 looks worse than it does on the PS2 on the same TV for me, (Sony Bravia 1080p).

Although i've got a European PS3 (software back compat), are the American PS3's better with back compat seeing as they have the emotion chip ?

I thought vibrant was the best display mode in Gears, too. Just looked better than all the others. Sort of like Far Cry in "paradise" mode.

FFXII is easily the best looking PS2 game bar God of WAr II.

err...no. That's the opposite of what the Gears team was trying to achieve.

...no..it's muddy, because it's a horror action game in a wartorn world. I'm not bashing the look of the game, but "colorful and vibrant" is a huge exaggeration.

Character designs started to get messy after FF IX. FF IX main character was starting to look in that weird way. FF X took it to a new level. I guess it's just too Japanese. They seriously should think of the other cultures and not only of their own. Japanese usually don't make really muscular characters but please put some clothes on them. And stop with the futuristic style already! I want a medieval set.

I thought the FFX characters were the most stylish. FF12 has some strange ones, but they were interesting. Fran's was done well, Vaan looked like a street urchin like he should have (why they gave him such professionaly done hair is beyond me, he's basically homeless), Penelo's was nothing to complain over, yea Basch in a suit of armor would have been cooler, but his outfit wasn't ugly or anything, I liked Ashe's outfit the best, but it could be because I'm a guy 0_o. Oh, and Vossler was badass, I wanted him to join my part but noooOooOo.

Despite my avatar i am a guy. Just ever since that belt thing w/ lulu and Tidus's costume that just has everything imaginable on it with rainbow colors...I've started to get annoyed with FF character designs. I'm impressed w/ baltheir and fran, but WHY HOT PINK! If it was like viva pinata colors as a backdrop it might be ok.

I guess it's just a personal taste. I just can't imagine people fighting in those clothes. Makes it way unrealistic too.

basch looks goofy. There are a bunch of random un-needed belts on him and his sleveless shirt/blouse isn't buttoned up all the way. But I soon realized that was because there were NO BUTTONS ON IT. It's such a weird outfit.

agreed, i really like the reds and greens they used in the vegetation in partciular. very dark reds and greens that matched the overall mood of the game. gears has a great color scheme, imo.
