So I gave it a chance and downloaded WoW. Picked undead warlock. Maybe the demo held me down from the GREAT things that keep people playing, but all I did was level up and die some. I have played FFXI and leveled a black mage to 72 as far as my back ground goes for MMO's. I did notice its leveling up system was alot faster thatn FFXI's.

Whats the allure of WoW that keeps people playing. And is FF14 better in any aspect?

I'll tell you.

The fact that there's about a billion other people playing on the same server that you can play with, and talk to, and do stuff with.

WoW can keep you hooked but you really need to try it more; usually what makes WoW interesting is the end game content (raids) and PvP.

Do you have a friend that has a WoW account active? Ask him if he could lend you his account so you can try it more, if you liked buy it but I recommend he refer you so you can get more experience if you are questing with your pal.

I wouldn't suggest lending an account. It is against the ToS. It is mostly the end-game that keeps people hooked.

Really? I know lending an account to someone you don't know or a friend from your guild or something like that is bad but a real life friend that you know well isn't bad or even your own family, but well, that's me.

When I started playing in 2004, the leveling process was easy, the world was huge and full of other newbies like myself which made grouping really fun and sometimes unpredictable, the pvp was a kill or be killed affair and it was just a game easy to get into. Of course it changed severel years later, but initially it was fun.

As with any mmo wow becomes much better when you have friends to play with.

Leveling solo is just a grind.

It is a love or hate kind of game. I find the style deathly boring and prefer Diablo.

Undead warlock is decent, and is an ok pick for a first char. I would stick with that, or maybe go hunter as the pet makes for easy soloing especially since you can get a felguard (awesome demon) with the warlock at lvl 10 now. The real thing you need is someone to quest with, preferably with recruit a friend for triple xp. Then you can team up and level really quick and do some pvp to mix things up.

That may have been true when you played, but people can get a job to 75 in 2-3 days if they know what they're doing now. The MMO market has aimed at becoming more like WoW. And I think that's a real shame.

I agree with that. Whenever I try and MMO and play for a while, it seems to lead me back to WoW for another month. The population is unbeatable. You know the towns are full of life and there is always a ton of people to group up with if need be.

No, you actually do stuff in WoW other than stalking apparent females.

My sisters husband gave me one of those ten day trial things and tried it, turned it off after boring myself killing poor tigers and pigs.

I am a fan Blizzard but I have never played WoW. Although they offer a free demo, I feel you need to play a lot to actually get into the game. The monthly fees scare me away from WoW like vampires around garlic. The graphics are really cartoon-like but I like the feel of an expansive MMO that includes guilds and has millions of subscribers such as WoW. If WoW were to get rid of their monthly fees then I would be all over it (which will probably never happen because of the amount of subscribers playing/paying already). So until the monthly fees stop, I'll be playing Diablo.

Bleh, got sort of bored of it after a month and a half. Waiting 30 minutes to do a single as a DPS to do HC is nothing but a waste of time.

Then do not play it and it really is that simple. Clearly many people do like it but it is not your type of game. No need to make a thread asking people to explain why a game is good that you did not like.

Yes, but there are plenty of other things to do also. I mean, I'm assuming that you weren't seriously comparing what's on offer gameplay wise between Home and WoW...
