Not sure about MGS IV (Since I don't own it) but GTA IV scored at 10 here and at IGN. Playing GTA IV for the 1st time does not compare to playing Zelda: OOT for the 1st time 10 years ago. In fact it doesn't compare to GTA III. If anything GTA III is way more deserving of a 10 than GTA IV.

When I first played Zelda: OOT that game blew me away. GTA IV is fun but not 10 worthy IMO.

Who else agrees with me

Neither compare with playing SMB, Tetris, or the original Zelda for the first time.

I thought GTAIV was great, but yeah, not a 10, and after playing it for so long, I can only do bits at a time. With OoT...well, I can't play it without losing contact with the outside world for a few days.

I agree with that. I actually like MM better than OoT. WW is still my favorite 3D Zelda, though.

Oot was the first 3d installation of zelda, gtaiv was not the first 3d installation of gta. I think this comparison is moot, now gta3 vs Oot, thats entirely different. Oot was a great game, tp just didnt have the same awesome feel to it because its still pretty similar to Oot, same with gtaIV its not entirely brandy new. So im voting for gta only because my gta3 experience was far far far better then Oot ever gave me. I had so much fun with Oot, but gta3 consumed 3 months of my life before it started seeing the outside world again.

Yes, well ten years ago you were ten years less jaded and ten years newer to games. Not to mention the two game are very, very different. Obviously it's going to feel different.

I can't believe no one selected the 3rd option. I know a lot of people here are way to young to experience Zelda: OOT 10 years ago.

I think it deserved a 10, i think the point about a 10 is not that its perfect, but everything about the game when it was release stood out from everything, MGS4 is the same way, there was so much love put into these games, from the presentation, graphics, to the gameplay, gtaiv is definitly better then gta3 any day of the week. The point i was trying to make is that Both twilight princess and gtaiv dont have the same wow factor as the original first 3d installments, but they both have more content, better graphics, gameplay etc...

Playing Twilight princess for the first time doesn't compare to the first time with OoT either, yet Twilight princess is the better game. You can't compare this type of stuff anymore. Playing Gears of War 2 doesn't compare to playing Pitfall for the first time on the atari 2600 20 years ago. That doesn't mean Pitfall is a better game.

I don't know. I didn't really like GTA4 too much, but all games from when we were younger look better. It's just the nostalgia talking most likely.

They both scored a 10. That means that for its time they both are 10's. Thats why I'm comparing them for its time. Not for what they are today. This is how Gamespot rates and every place rates games. If GTA IV today is not as good as OOT for its time it doesn't deserve a 10. Thats how I feel. A 9.5 is one thing but a 10 is completely different. Few games deserves status of a 10. And in order to get a 10 the game must be as good if not better than the 1st 10 on gamespot for its time.

It has more to do with the fact that when you first play games, you have not much to compare with. It's only when you're old and jaded like me that you hate on all the new games. :P Except Left 4 Dead.

I don't really agree. Even when I played it back in the day, I was sorta like, "man, this 3D crap is kind of irritating" Twilight Princess did it better. Then again, I was much more used to 3D by then.

It doesn't work like that. Not only are the games rated by different reviewers, they are rated on different expectations. If getting a 10 today meant a game was as good if not better than a game 10 years ago, than most games today would get a 10 because most games that release are simply superior to similar games of previous generations. You are essentially saying that Skate is a worse game than Tony Hawk 3 (a game which DID earn a 10 at Gamespot)

I think I'll have to unfortunately jump on the "GTAIV is overrated" bandwagon. I bought the game right when it came out, loved it to death, but never actually finished it. I got to the Three Leaf Clover mission, kept dying, other games came out...etc. The lack of checkpoints frustrated me to no end.

I recently picked it up again, and while I do still love it and think it's an excellent game, it definitely isn't worth a 10. The gameplay is just too sloppy...I mean personally I liked Crackdown's lock-on system better. However, GTAIV is still a great example of creating atmosphere in the game. The amount of radio conversations, TV, random things you hear on the street, etc is simply amazing. The gameplay definitely needs an update though: getting a mission, driving somewhere, killing some people and losing your wanted level gets rather repetitive after a while.

just like nothing compares to playing SMB on the NES for the first time. or to some people that are older, playing games on the 2600, 7800 Atari, or just before my time, the colecovision :).

gaming experiences are relative to when you were born imo, OOT i LOVED, but it pales in comparison to the first time I saw mario bros being played.

While I agree, the fact that GTA4 is a sequel and we have all experiance a 3D GTA, probably many times over makes it hard to prefer the experiance of playing GTA4 over the first experiance of playing Zelda: OOT since it was the first 3D Zelda and something we hadn't experienced before.

In early 1999. I guess the hype was too big. I expected God knows what and I got underwhelming 3D graphics, the game started with horrible pre-rendered link room, the beggining was boring and uninspired.

It got much better later on, but I never truly understood why some people go crazy over it, it felt very limited, linear and simple. Altough each element was designed very nicely I guess.

Yeah... i must be crazy. I mean... how could I ever have thought that a game that was a straight up continuation to OoT when it came to art style and setting with better graphics, more gameplay options, a larger world to explore, more things to do, more dungeons, and if played on the Wii arguably better controls was the superior game... seriously... what the hell was I thinking? In all seriousness now, the only thing OoT does better than Twilight Princess is difficulty (and perhaps pacing, but that is entirely debateable)

GTA IV felt like the previous generation of GTA games only with better graphics and more content. Ocarina of Time was absolutely ground-breaking when it was released and took the Zelda series in a new direction that many games, including Zelda itself, have been copying every since.

Seriously, GTAIV was severely overrated. Both MGS4 and Zelda OoT had the feeling of every moment in both games would stay within your mind for as long as you live. GTAIV was just repetition an annoying European crying out for the American dream(No offence), and too much realism which didn't belong in any GTA game.

I gave my GTAIV copy to my friend. It was boring and was a 9.0 game max.

GTA4 is the best in the series, OoT, however, was not (for me at least). I would say I enjoyed playing GTA4 more then OoT but A Link To The Past for SNES was one of the best gaming experiences ever for me, I LOVED that game.

I think GTA4 satisfied me more than OoT did back then. It's by far the best in the series.
