Playing Witcher 2 on a high end PC it looks terrible

It's a great game but damn it hasn't aged well at all. At 1440p ultra settings it looks like a dogs dinner. Games I have played on PS4 (most notably DAI) look a zillion times better.

The PS4 really isn't as bad as some PC gamers (including me) probably thought. Let's face it if you're playing on a big TV you're stuck at 1080p for now anyway, well most people are. And I can't be bothered to play games like that on a small monitor anymore and yes 27 inch is too small even if the res is higher (1440p).

Ideal scenario for me is Witcher 3 on a huge 4K TV but that isn't going to happen for me anytime soon and as my PC isn't currently hooked up to either of our big HDTV's I think I'll go for Witcher 3 on PS4 which I think will be just fine. I am willing to give up FPS and various graphic features that nobody notices for a bigger screen and will work on getting that 4K TV later or just convincing She Who Must Be Obeyed that plugging my high end PC in to our main TV is actually a good idea (that will never happen).

Would you compare Deus Ex with Half life 2 and expect Deus ex to look comparable?

Instead of comparing games graphically that are 4 yrs apart, you might be better off comparing Witcher 3 on PC with Witcher 3 on PS4. I'm pretty sure the differences would be huge.

Its one thing to have a preference when it comes to consoles or PC, but you don't necessarily have to reach for far-fetched comparisons to justify the preference.

The Witcher games have mediocre animations. The models themselfs (espcailly of females) are largely cloned, it's both laziness and sexism.

On top of all this, the game makes the heroes American, and everyone else lesser British, anglophobic, much like Saving Private Ryan was.

An incredibly overrated series - not quite Mass Effect 3 level, more like a little pup yip-yip-yipping, wishing it was Mass Effect.

I love my 27 inch IPS 1440p monitor for games like Divinity OS and Pillars of Eternity but for huge open world games? Yeah... no? I want to play these games on a big screen if you want that little screen you can slump over to get that res increase or extra fps you go right ahead and do it but to get all butthurt that someone might want to play on a PC on a bigger screen or even *gasp* on a PS4 is fucking PATHETIC!

Consoles are for casual gaming, they use controllers which already have atrocious and inaccurate input response so response time is essentially unnoticed due to the lack of control, they're also not an enthusiast platform and they can't even exceed 60 FPS so a 120hz+ display is not even feasible to make use of...

Consoles are for gaming, just like PC's if you're a gamer. Most games are multiplat now so are you saying playing it on PC makes you 'a real gamer' but playing exactly the same game on console makes you a casual? You're talking nonsense.

PC's will ALWAYS give a better gaming experience IF you have a good PC but if you want to play on a big screen you're playing in 1080p unless you're one of the few people who have a 4K TV so GTFO with your PC master race bollocks and that's coming from a lifelong PC gamer.

That's the most impressive PC game from last gen. I would love a port of it to the Ps4 with the 360 versions enhancements along with the detail in the PC version.

As a PC exists it is an enthusiast gaming platform by nature, you need to know what you're doing, how to maintain things, mod things, keep drivers swept and freshly installed, overclock, tweak games to get the best performance out of them, this is not a universe a console exists in... The fact that they both play games does not mean they are an intertwined eco-system, they're completely different.

I started playing it again because I never finished it and wanted to get up to speed with the story before Witcher 3. The game is good but the graphics just look awful compared to anything I've played recently on PC. It just hasn't aged well, some games don't, fucking sue me.

TW2 was the best-looking game of 2011. Forget Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2, TW2 beat them all on an artistic level. Saying it doesn't look great even today is ridiculous. It's like classic loosingends insanity, with the claims that it looked better on 360.

lmfao, no, you don't. This is what you had to do in the 90's. You don't have to do that with PC's anymore you don't have to bend over backwards to get great performance or tweak and twiddle just to make games work that is the DISTANT past.

I played it first on PC then on 360 just to play it upstairs and it looked dire on that so I decided to go back to PC but only just got round to it again now that Witcher 3 is coming up.

I'm sure it looked amazing in 2011 but it looks ugly to me now I guess we have just moved on. I'm honestly perplexed as to why people are taking this so personally I'm pretty sure anyone who has this on PC who loads it up will think WTF it just has not aged well at all. Or maybe it's just me, which is okay too, but all the hate is a bit fucking weird.

I am incredibly confused as to why you even posted that. The PC is always going to be vastly superior to consoles if you have a good PC (as I said above) my point is just that The Witcher 2 has not aged well which seems to have really upset people specially nyad who is bleating on about response times and framerates for some bizarre reason.

Sure The Witcher 2 is not using the most up to date techniques but it is no where near terrible even compared to current games.

When it was released in 2011 it was one of the best looking games.

It's funny you mention Dragon Age: Inquisition when that game is 3 and a half years newer yet looks like this on the PS4.

The graphics are actually pretty great, it's the gameplay that sucks.

Guess i've seen shots where the bloom's at its worst.

.......The Witcher 2 still looks fantastic.. The only graphical problems I have had a problem with it are some characters models are way less detailed compared to others, it's a distraction.. Other than that I would have no problem if Witcher 3 released with the graphics of Witcher 2.. The game has aged well and has a great art style to it.

@sSubZerOo: Witcher 2's Ultra has more detailed clothes compared to some of the recent games of 2015.

Oh I agree.. That is really the only negative I have seen with the game.. Some characters look so damn good, than you come across a generic guard that looks like ass.. No better example of that is in the beginning of the game with Geralt shackled... Roche, Vess and Geralt all look fantastic and detailed, but the guards guarding him look hideous as hell.

Grats on the distant second place version of Witcher3, OP.

I wouldn't say the guards looked hideous as hell but there is a drop in quality but I think that is more due to them looking ordinary when next to stand outs like Geralt and Roche.

The z-buffer issues is what bugged me the most like in hair or floorboards.

But it looks like that is fixed in The Witcher 3.

Yup, I was never a fan of how TW2 handled shadows wth the god awful dithering.

Infamous SS still looks better, just like it did at release.

Visuals are the least of the witcher series problems tho, I can't believe they decided to port that shit combat system from 2 into the third game almost completely.
