in this video he said you will need wi fi to play games online. So it seems playing anywhere is not going to work well with vita.

We already knew 3g wasnt going to be enough to play the games online anywhere. Its more for internet and all that jazz.
Um.. yeah, pretty much. Or if you want to surf the web or play with twitter and all that stuff. 3G doesn't really have the bandwidth necessary to support heavy gaming sessions.whats the point for 3g then? so i can say I got the high score on facebook on the train?

3g is pretty fast for the web and downlaing a few games.... but for miliplayer you really do need wifi.
lol at least u have the option while the 3DS doesn'twhats the point for 3g then? so i can say I got the high score on facebook on the train?

3G does have enough bandwidth to play games online, the ping/response time is just way too high and unreliable for games.

[QUOTE="dontshackzmii"]lol at least u have the option while the 3DS doesn't 3DS is cheaper than a 3G Vita, so it's understandable.whats the point for 3g then? so i can say I got the high score on facebook on the train?

Obviously. 3G connections aren't reliable or fast enough to use as multiplayer connection. It's just for internet and maybe some apps if they do that(which I'd bet they would)

lol
Even though I like getting the best version of things if I can, I was going to stick with Wi Fi anyways. Paying for 3G service from AT&T is like buying a broken down car. It won't work.
Yes my metaphors are free to all.
[QUOTE="KevinButlerVP"][QUOTE="dontshackzmii"]lol at least u have the option while the 3DS doesn't 3DS is cheaper than a 3G Vita, so it's understandable. Ha, good point. $50 extra bucks AND god-knows-how-much for the monthly service from AT&T(lol)? That's one option I will gladly pass up.whats the point for 3g then? so i can say I got the high score on facebook on the train?

[QUOTE="dontshackzmii"]lol at least u have the option while the 3DS doesn't What is the point of having it if it is worthless? You can just use your phone. When I get a Vita I am definitely getting the wifi only one.whats the point for 3g then? so i can say I got the high score on facebook on the train?

I have a few questions, Why not put 4G in the Vita? Why 3G? How much faster is 4G than 3G? Fast enough for online gaming yet? If you buy a 3G Vita, you don't have to pay AT&T a monthly bill for their data, do you? Does AT&T's 2GB data cap apply to the Vita?Not-A-Stalker
1. 4G isn't backward compatible with 3G, and since 4G isn't readily available anywhere, you're practically screwed even if you had a 4G version.
2. In my opinion, almost any kind of far distance wireless connection is impractical for gaming. 3G and 4G signals have high latency due the wave frequency. As a result, the connection will have a high ping despite a fast connection. Even if the 4G signal could transmit 5 Megabytes worth of data in one second, it is essentially transmitting (for example) 750 kilobytes every 150 miliseconds, which means that your ping will be upwards of 150ms. A wired connection which could transmit data packages every 10ms interval would be more condusive. I feel this is the one aspect of wireless technology which many people do not understand. Wifi technology is similar to that of a wireless router technology, and doesn't pose such a problem

But then what's the point of having 3G if you can't play Online Games with it?

For tweeting, checking emails, updates for your games, post on facebook, purchasing things from PSN or music from that Sony music type store. Basically whatever you're data plan on a phone allows you to do.[QUOTE="dontshackzmii"]lol at least u have the option while the 3DS doesn't Exactly, but i do think 3g will be more than enough, also vita would be able to use the free wifi spots that at&t has around the country.whats the point for 3g then? so i can say I got the high score on facebook on the train?

Wow, I actually thought 3G meant stuff like CoD mp anywhere. There goes one of its (IMO) biggest advantages over 3DS. Blabadonunfortunately 3G just isn't good enough for online gaming it never has been. you need ultra low ping time and minimal packetloss, 3G is however ideal for for downloads and surfng the net.
If you're expecting to play hardcore on 3g you're crazy...3g is great for my iphone but its not nearly fast enough for low lag gaming.
Plus, 'you're going to need wifi' is a given lol...did anyone really think you could just walk around with it not connected to any network and play games online?
WTF?
some people have very little knowledge about technology, computers & networking etc.If you're expecting to play hardcore on 3g you're crazy...3g is great for my iphone but its not nearly fast enough for low lag gaming.

You CAN play online games with it, its just not goin to be nowhere near the speed of Wifi. 3g is great if you are somewhere where they is no wifi connection availilbe (road trip? vacation etc), but its going to be a lot slower than Wifi. You will still be able to download off PSN, play online games, browse the internet etc, but if you expect to jump into CoD and own people left and right you're fooling youself...people are going to be on way faster connections and will have a great advantage. I am going for the Wifi model because 3g isnt worth the monthly payment plus I have Wifi at home, work etc.
