The supply and demand of the world economy is not the reason for Congo's hardships. Congo's problems are a direct reflection of inadequate government control, powerful warlords and lack of education. The resource they are trying to procure is inconsequential to the underlying problem. Today it might be a metal, tomorrow it will be diamonds again and in the future it most likely will be food/oil.
whats so special about that metal? cant they use something else?Haseokicksass
it's highly conductive of heat and electricity, very resistant to corrosion and has a very high melting point, only tungsten has a higher melting point for metals i think (Don't quote me on that tho). Dunno if they can't use something else, but it's what's most reliable for what it's used for.
I lol at every one that believes this
So the ps2 on its own increased demand from "$49/pound to a whopping $275/pound" lol here is the real facts
"Tantalum is used primarily for the production of capacitors, particularly for applications requiring a small compact format and high reliability, ranging widely from hearing aids and pacemakers, to airbags, GPS, ignition systems and anti-lock braking systems in automobiles, through to laptop computers, mobile phones, video game consoles, video cameras and digital cameras.[5]The upsurge in electronic products over the past decade resulted in a peak in late 2000 with inflated high demand and price increases for the mineral which lasted a few months. In 2005 the price was still down at early 2000 levels.[6]""
And im pretty sure there was 10x more Anti-lock braking systems , airbags, ignition systems sold than PS2s

The same material is used for mobile phones and computers - let alone a plethora of electonics.
But no people, the PS2s launch is the reason for the millions dead in the DRC.
What a pathetic article. Just disgusted at the writer of it, and the arrogance pinning a video game system to blame.
Let alone the title.
Its **** like this that get me rilled up and pissed off.
