PlayStation 3 sales surpass 5 million in the UK

Since its release during the opening stages of 2007, Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 3's sales have surpassed five million. The announcement coincides with the launch of the re-designed, smaller and lighter super-slim version of the platform.

FergalGara, the VP and Managing Director of Sony's UK and Ireland divisions said the UK sales landmarkis "another historic moment for the PlayStation brand, and something Im incredibly proud of." He thanked all of Sony's consumers, retailers and 3rd party partners for "helping us achieve this figure, and look forward to continued success.

Sony then pointed towards a bright future for the PS3 this holiday season with the likes of Wonderbook: Book of Spells, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Assassin's Creed 3 andPlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

As of March 31, 2012, the PlayStation 3 has sold over 66 million units worldwide.

UK is always counted as part of Europe and on that region the PS3 surpassed the total sales of the Xbox a long time ago. The only region giving the Xbox that second place is the US and by a huge margin.

UK is always counted as part of Europe and on that region the PS3 surpassed the total sales of the Xbox a long time ago. The only region giving the Xbox that second place is the US and by a huge margin.

But the xbox is still ahead in the UK.

I find it really interesting that this generation of game consoles is so much larger than last gen. The gamecube and Xbox sold what, in the 30 millions each? Both 360 and PS3 are already at about 70 million with atleast a year to go.

I wonder why.

Definately not the same part of Britain im from.Bout everyone has a 360 here to be brutally honest and sales wise isnt most popular franchises skewed in favour for the 360 aswell in terms of sales.

the xbox sold 24 million while the gamecube sold around 22 million. so yeah, it's quite impressive to see close to 250 million consoles being sold this gen. consoles ain't going anywhere...

The rest of Europe the PS3 is definitely more popular but the UK is like the U.S. this gen for sales. Wii>360>PS3.

360 will probably win since its holiday sells usually erase what ever gains PS3 made throughout the year.

This seems like the perfect time to mention sony's stock price is at it's lowest point this month
