Playstation 3's 2008 will be like 360's 2007

I might dislike the 360 but even I admit that 360 did lead the pack with hit after hit of great games this year, most notably Mass Effect, Halo 3 & Bioshock. Next year Sony will do the same with games like MGS4, LBP, GT5 & KZ2, I'm not gonna mention FF13 because it might not come out next year although there is still a chance that it will make it in Japan.

The reason PS3 has a low attach rate boggles even me, is it possible that only casuals are buying the PS3 :? anyway PS3 is only at 6 million sold and am sure when they hit 10 million by Spring the amount of games sold will increase. I know atleast 5 of my friends leaving off buying a PS3 till next year and I assume that its the same case with everyone wanting to buy a PS3.

I would just like to add that this in not a 360 bashing thread, I am talking about Sony's 08 line-up, why am I talking about 08 ? well it's almost amongst us so better start getting excited about the games now :D

I have to say though that Microsoft won't have another year like 07, not game-wise but competition wise Sony and Nintendo just entered and from next year they will be ready to kick start with killer apps and what not, although it seems Nintendo has already started :p

This was no doubt a great year for Microsoft as the competition was still young compared to the 360, lets see how Microsoft can cope next year

They should compare the 360's 2007 to the PS3's 2008.

While I don't agree with half of your listed games, I do agree that the PS3 definately has a good year coming up. Theres something strange going on with the PS3 and multi-plat games though. It has half the install base but the games sell way less than half what they do on the 360. I think they need another price drop to get the guy who buys games outside of GT, MGS, FF (basically the games that were franchise titles on the PS1) to pick up a PS3. It seems like the early adopters have little interest in multi-plats and really are waiting to those franchise titles. It would be a shame if multi-plats continued to do unexplainably bad and only the franchise titles put up big numbers. I think that could actually have alot of negative consequences for 2009.

The 360 is multi-plat heavy in 2008, but I think that its easy to forget how much the original x-box got looked over when it came to high profile multi-plat games. PS3 owners expect to get these games and its nothing shocking or "hell yeah"-able when they come out. But for people who had an xbox, it is something to say "hell yeah" about. Some of these companies downright refused to put out anything on the old system, let alone some of their biggest titles. The best selling game last gen didn't come on the x-box until years after it had been on the PS2. I think GTA4 will be huge on the 360 for alot of reasons, its install base, the fact that we didn't get it for the og system and we get exclusive DLC (which is a popular feature, despite how others seem to brush it off like its nothing).

Both systems have a good year coming up, just in different ways.

I wouldn't be so sure about NG2 not selling consoles or not selling great. Pretty much every hyped exclusive/timed exclusive new IP for the 360 so far has sold over 1 million copies or more. Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Gears of War, Saints Row, Condemned, Mass Effect, etc. The 360 has an attach rate that can't be rivaled right now. It is amazing to see how 360 games are sold in droves and nearly sell double the Wii and PS3 library combined every month, especially from the 3rd party devs and pubs. It is getting down right laughable. Oh sure, Nintendo games will sell on Nintendo systems, but what about 3rd party games? Not so hot numbers for them and it could come back to bite them down the road when devs and pubs start making exclusive content for just the 360 because they know it will sell a million in its first month. PS3 titles just aren't selling and when you look at 3rd party games like the 360 Madden outselling the PS3, Wii and PS2 versions combined, it is jaw dropping.

Also Fable was one of the best selling games for the XBOX and its sequel is being hyped massively. It will probably sell much better than Fable, which sold nearly 3 million copies WW. Also any game with the name Halo on it will sell consoles and will sell period. Halo Wars is going to be another massive new IP for the system IMO, but we shall see. Gears of War 2 will probably be a holiday 2009 title. That and another price drop around the same period will probably push 360 sales through the roof in that year.

What you may not be realizing is that you become like the fanboys you hate just on a different side. Anyone who is objective can see the good and the bad in each system and even remembers the PC.

Pretty much. The 360 sold 830K in Canada and the US combined. The PS3 barely got to 500K. That is a 330K butt whooping in that region, which = the #1 region for game sales in the world. The 360 is also outselling the PS3 in Austraila and the UK. The only place that I know of that the PS3 is actually doing anything mightly over the 360 is Japan and it is only by around 100K a month. That isn't enough to overtake the 360 in worldwide sales and I didn't even add in the UK or Austraila sales.

I'm interested in seeing the combined Euro and Asia sales, that will probably be out sometime next year.

It is more closer to an 8 million lead. Have you even been paying attention to the NPD numbers in America the last 5 months? PS3 sales have been atrocious and the 360 has outsold the PS3 in some months nearly 6 to 1, most months 3 to 1.

Exactly. In 2007 it was suppose to be this game and that game that will push sales and the PS3 did get a bump or two and then slammed back into the ground.

The 360 lineup for 2008 has big name titles and another price drop or two will continue to push sales just fine in 2008. MS has even said that there are many games and new IPs that haven't even been announced for the console, but will be soon enough. Seriously. I can't believe any one would be naive enough to believe the 360 will sell like crap in 2008, while the PS3 has a turn around never seen before in gaming history.

The sad thing about the PS3 in 2008 is its two biggest hitters, MGS4 and FFXIII, will more then likely be just timed exclusives. No way Konami and SE keeps those games off a console in the 360 that sells 3rd party titles as much as Katrina victims drink bottled water.

GT5 isn't guaranteed for 2008 and Little Big Planet may be a great game, but will it actually sell consoles or sell period?

Well lets see, millions of bottled water was flown in for Katrina victims and I'd say just about every one of those bottled waters was put to use. The 360 sells millions of copies of 3rd party titles. Easy to put two and two together.

Also I'd say the only false hope are cows thinking those games will remain exclusive. The 360 will get a version of them and that is pretty much a guarantee. It really doesn't matter to me either way. I have a PS3 and will get MGS4 the first day it comes out. I have no interest in games like GT5, Little Big Planet or FFXIII.

Epic denied a Gears of War PC version, Capcom denied a DMC4 360 version and I could go on and on how devs have lied in the past about games being exclusive to this and that console. Seriously you have to be pretty ignorant to believe those games won't go to a console that sells 3rd party titles better than any console has done since the PS2. Actually scratch that. The 360 sells 3rd party titles maybe better than any console in history. CoD4 sold 1.5 million units in less than a month in just the US alone. Madden360 outsells the Wii, PS2 and PS3 versions combined. The list goes on and on.
