Do you think this could be possible? Sony already seems to have strong ties to Google, their smart phones feature Android, Sony Vaio laptops come with Google Chrome preinstalled and some Sony Bravia TVs come with Google TV. Together they could make an attractive user interface and give users an enhanced internet experience, where the playstation 3 is still lacking. And considering there are rumors Microsoft will make some Windows 8/9 features available on the next Xbox, this wouldn't seem like a bad move. What do you think?GemuesepizzaGoogle OS may not be good at handling games unless they're developing something we don't know about. In any case, I think Sony should definitely have another company do their OS and other software and focus more on efficient hardware.
I don't think there's any evidence to suggest this may happen (maybe I'm wrong), but I admit that it's an interesting idea that could put the software of a Sony console on par with that of a Microsoft console, and maybe even surpass it.incuensuochaGoogle on par or surpassing Microsoft lol...

Google has been posing a threat to MS in recent years as unusual as it may sound to you. Just go look at the stocks (using google finance :P)

I think Google is really only competing with Apple right now. Microsoft seems to be doing its own thing.

Funny thing when people tell other people to find something on the net, they don't say bing it or MSN it,they say google it i think that say enough when PC come with explorer and explorer doesn't open by default on google page it does so on MSN.
We already know that Nintendo and MS can't compete with Sony when it comes to media on consoles.
The only corporation that could rival Sony in taht regard is Apple, if they decided to join the console competition.

I agree, Google is only targeting Apple. Not much to do anything agaiinst MS , they are killing themselves off, look at ZUne and their Mobile OS, it's pretty much a failureGoogle has been doing some really smart smart things. I think that they should continue to grow in any area they can. Android was a really smart move by them and Sony working with Google is a win for everyone. Google wins by getting into a new market, Sony wins because google can do great things with OS and help them expand outside of just the home console. Finally, we win because google is going to help Sony make the best console they can make, regardless of whether or not MS's is better.

Well I've never hated anything Google released. MS on the other hand released Millenium and Vista. Now that is lol worthy. Besides, where has your beloved Microsoft's ingenuity and innovation gone? Explorer has been playing catch up to Firefox ever since everyone rebelled against the awful IE6. Vista went after the OS10 market and it took till Windows 7 came out for people to stop laughing. And now Windows 8 is trying to take iOS and Android and turn it into a desktop OS.

Heck Apple may change the gaming landscape significantly with out even having to put out a console.
Next gen consoles may end up being tablet devices with a lot more emphasis on digital games.
Gaming may no longer be just the domain of PCs or the main console but will be ubiquitas across many platforms, devices and distribution channels and serivices.
I'm willing to bet that the major players of gaming will be Apple, Microsoft and Google.
I think they like each other because they are have a common enemy. Microsoft. And google hates Apple.caseypayne69
In the world of business there are no friends or enemies.
Just temporary allies and rivals.

You havent seen microsofts recent record have you... microsoft phone = killed by google (and apple). Internet explorer = killed by everything. Microsoft vista and soon to b windows 8 = flopped and will flop. Its not hard to see a google OS eventually beat out a microsoft OS. Apple are already starting. What was the last thing (mabe the xbox) that has really been a game changer and not just microsoft trying (and failing) to catch up to everyone else?

I don't see much of a benefit financially for Sony to outsource OS development to Google, plus why would they make the PS4 part of the Google family and not the PSVita? The Vita, to me, would seem like a better suitor to a Google OS like Android than the PS4 would. Once Sony finalizes its vision for PS4, I'm sure it'll be running its own unique OS built in-house.

Windows' phones are still very popular - just not amongst your average person. They're the "new Blackberry" - in a sense that they're the new business phone.
Tons of people still use Internet Explorer - I'm on it now. I use Chrome and Firefox, too - but IE isn't going anywhere.
You mentioned one, arguable, OS that Microsoft released that flopped.. Windows 8 isn't even out - so saying it's going to flop without knowing anything about it makes no sense. How about all the OS's that didn't flop..?
Microsoft is the leader of current technology.

Oh the pain Windows ME the most horrible OS ever created,i hated it with such a passion.

I know there a guy on PSN forums that sits on PS3 update section and i also seen him on NeoGaf that is obsesed with vision that Google TV/Android will become PS3 firmware and tries to proof that in many ways, but it's impossible for simple reason that PS3 can't change firmware like that dramticly with other products on the fly with old firmware.... but PS4? it can happen and it's possible but they would need a lot of stuff for it, most importently Game OS that will handle native applications (aka games) and in-game UI linked to Android. it's technicly possible, buh it does not need to run fully on Java since some apps will work only on PS4
