Yes, on older technology. From the article this is going to be top of line hence going to cost alot. In time is will be cheaper.

i seriously would hope sony would not be stupid enough to come to market next generation witha new format that seriously won't be needed like hvd. the disc alone are going to cost $100 in 2010. it just doesn't seem practical for sony to try and launch a new format next generation. i think they should just come with a blu ray player with faster read speeds and whatever elsethey can think of because paying more then $600 for a gaming console is just seriously out of the question even 5 years from now.

technology is improving really quickly

but whether or not we'll get that stuff in next-gen consoles depends on the price

I dont think Sony invested huge amounts of money for the Cell to not be the processor for future product incarnations. The cell is very scalable and very powerfull for console based systems.

Blu-ray/HD-DVD seems to be the storage format of the future. Just recently the format got pushed to a 500gb capacity and the team behind it feels they can pull off 1TB.

No chance on Earth Sony will come with a new format,Blu-ray is here to stay for atleast the nest 10 years. Microsoft are going to license Blu-ray next-gen,and make their own parts.I highly doubt their console will cost less than the Ps4.Dualshockin

i don't think ms will license blu-ray. i think they will push digital distribution. i don't see MS wanting to pay sony anything. not even blu-rayv-vega75

Given the sucess of the 360/PS3 compared to the success of the Wii, it's a gurantee that they'll be cheaper next time around. You'd have to be pretty naive to believe otherwise.

This isn't actually a new thing, I remember reading an article about it in the days of the N64. I believe the problem at the time was that it couldn't be used for a general usage only something very specific and ofcourse the expence.

A couple of things though, surely multicore is the future especially for gaming and I don't think a games console will really need 300Ghz CPU. But if they used it in a GPU then it would be amazing. I don't know, I don't have the knowledge to make a meaningful comment I guess.

But its system wars, never stopped us before :D
