PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Open Beta this fall!

This is great news, more people will get to play it! It will come to us PSN+ members first, but will then expand to others. They are also going to be adding more characters in for the open beta as well.

This way more people will get to play it and enjoy the hell out of it, and they will realise that it's not just a carbon copy (it's fighting mechanics are way more complex and skill required, the combat is more like Mortal Kombat or Marvel vs Capcom and not Smash Bros).

Also Superbot has commented on the recent supposed "leak" that was revealed about a week back (with the stage screen shots and character pictures), in which they said "expect an announcment at Gamescom" which is in a couple weeks. You know what that means! It's probably real!

In all seriousness the game play is very different. You are going to be surprised, think more Mortal Kombat or Marvel vs Capcom style fighting and not Smash Bros. It's far more complex and deeper than Smash Bros combat system.

I don't know if it's going to own Smash Bros or not, in some ways All Stars is better but in others Smash Bros is better. But this game is also very different in it's own way, you are going to be in for a surprise.

The game is not mediocre, not even close, it's very fun and addicting. It will keep you hooked. I disagree with the roster comment as well, the line up is a good one. I just wish they had some female characters in it, and some Final Fantasy characters as well. Come on Cloud! :P

ICO is a good game, so is Shadow of The Colossus, they may have not sold too great but they were definately great and probably in my top 10 games of all time. Love the art style and everything!

I suppose you could mash buttons, but your not going to pull of good combos like that. It's fighting mechanics is more akin to Mortal Kombat or Marvel vs Capcom or Street Fighter, it's much more complex and deeper than Smash Bros. Each button, aside from X (jump) is an attack, each direction and diagonal direction also influence your attacks. So you do the math, that's a lot of different attacks, combined with every character having a grab and 3 different specials.

That's a very deep set of moves. It will take time to learn each character's attacks, they are all different from each other. The better your attacks are the faster your AP feels up to release a special, which is the only way to KO someone (it works better than it sounds, trust me). Conversely if you are on the receiving end you can lose AP. Also you can't be a victim of constant attack, if someone keeps getting combos on you after a few the combo "breaks" and you become invisible for a brief time.

It keeps things balanced I think. But some characters are easier to use than others, Sly is going to take a lot of practice, he is really fast and agile, and he relies more on tickery combat instead of the head on like the others. Radec is also different in this regard, but he is just long range. It's a very fun game.

Looking forward to giving it a shot.

They are great, but they kinda went under the radar. I think the games are the perfect artistic expression, they are interactive art perfected (which video games are).

But I would look into it first, not everyone likes the same kinda games.

I'm still not sure about this. I personally think the roster is pretty bad, too many dumb 3rd party characters. Put in meaningful ones or add more Sony characters.

Sure, some people keep criticising the game for being too much like Smash Bros but that's the reason I was looking forward to it, a nice alternative. The KO system was suspect already for me, and hearing that it's more like a typical fighter just makes me even more skeptical of whether or not I will like the game.

We'll see though. Public beta means I can try it which makes me happy; if a beta or demo weren't coming I wouldn't consider buying the game but now it has the chance to win me over.
