Bandai Namco has confirmed Dark Souls 3 will launch in North America, South America, and Europe on April 12. Along with this, developer From Software has updated its YouTube channel with a new gameplay video.

Judging from its title, the video seems to have been set for a debut at Sony's PlayStation Experience event this week but has appeared online a little early. It encapsulates a number of previously unseen areas and enemy types. The action starts with a player running along a path towards a large castle-like structure. A few steps in huge spears begin landing at his feet, as if thrown by a distant giant.

Later on in the video we're given a look at an open courtyard area, where what initially looks like a tree suddenly turns around and becomes a mammoth boss. It stomps its feet and inches around the arena, attempting to crush the player. It's an impressive and, frankly, disgusting-looking thing. There's also a quintessentially Dark Souls moment towards the end which we won't spoil. A second, more cinematic trailer has also been released and is available for you to watch below.

Bandai Namco has also detailed the Collector's and Day One editions of the game, which have different content depending on the regions. Details on each version can be found below.

Speaking to GameSpot, Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki indicated he is interested in wrapping up the Souls saga with this game and said he believes From Software should aggressively pursue new ideas. Read our full Dark Souls 3 interview here.

PlayStation Experience is officially a go for 2015! The epic two-day PlayStation community event is back, relocating to sunny/foggy/windy San Francisco this December 5th and 6th.

What can you expect this year? For starters, a ton of hands-on time with 2015 and 2016’s biggest games, plus a front-row seat for major PlayStation announcements. Plus some of those patented PlayStation surprises you’ve come to expect.

We’ve also heard your feedback regarding ticket prices, and I’m happy to announce that we’ve been able to make PlayStation Experience a little more affordable for 2015. Early birds who register before September 20th will get a discounted rate of $60 for the full two-day pass, while supplies last. After September 20th, regular two-day tickets will go for $75, with one-day passes going for $45 (Saturday only) and $40 (Sunday only).

Tickets are on sale now. When ordering tickets, we strongly recommend registering with your PlayStation Network ID for… well, reasons that aren’t exactly clear to me at this point. But I’m told it’ll all make sense come December!

For those traveling from out of town, we’ve secured a select number of discounted hotel rates at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis for $249 per night, the Courtyard by Marriott San Francisco Downtown for $209 per night, and the Hilton San Francisco for $179 per night.

Today marks 20 years of PlayStation, and Sony is celebrating with various sales, releases and videos at the PlayStation Blog.First off, the console maker has released an unboxing video for the original PlayStation which first landed on shelves September 9th, 1995. Usually, unboxing videos show off new or upcoming gadgets or toys.

This one just taps into our collective nostalgia:

Loading Video...

Sony is also running a 20th anniversary sale, including lots of games on PS4, PS3, PS Vita and even PSP. You can check those out here. There’s a bunch of other stuff: A new free theme for PS4; trivia at the PlayStation blog; and of course, the PS4 20th anniversary gamepad and headset which look pretty cool. Unfortunately, no word on a re-release of the even cooler 20th anniversary retro PS4.

Anniversary Edition
Anniversary Edition

I didn’t own an original PlayStation, and didn’t get into PlayStation games until the PS2 which was a wonderful console. I was always a Nintendo gamer (and a sometimes Sega gamer) and a PC gamer (and a sometimes Mac gamer) prior to PlayStation and Xbox. Now, twenty years later, PlayStation leads the pack—absolutely dominating the current console wars over Microsoft and Nintendo, with over 25 million units already sold. And honesty, over these 20 years I’ve played so many PlayStation games I can’t possibly pick a favorite. But if I had to try, I’d probably go with Demon’s Souls.

But there are so many great games across several generations of PlayStation, from Uncharted to Ratchet & Clank, I’m hard-pressed to even remember all the great ones. Probably the most overrated series on the consoles is God of War.

The playable list of games for the upcoming PlayStation Experience event may have already been teased, but Sony Computer Entertainment has a few surprises in store for the PlayStation faithful who descend on Moscone West in San Francisco, California on December 5–6, 2015.

Yes, we can expect more Uncharted 4 footage, more cool stuff about Horizon: Zero Dawn, and probably something on Sony Bend’s latest venture, but announcements of the following titles could really bring the house down.

5 PlayStation Experience PS4 announcements that would bring the house down

Crash Bandicoot

Okay, enough’s enough, where’s Crash? It’s been seven years since the crate-smashing marsupial graced our screens, so let’s bring this loveable rogue back with an almighty bang right now. You’ve shown us the PlayStation 20th anniversary cake with Crash sitting on top like butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth, and Naughty Dog took the proverbial piss with its E3 2015 trailer, so he’s got to be coming, right?

Even license owner Activision is getting really cosy with Sony this year, having knocked it out of the park with Destiny, and focused all of its marketing on pushing Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 towards PS4 owners. At the same time, you’ve got to ask yourself: would Crash bring in the cash for its publisher? Is he really iconic enough, and would his platforming prowess translate onto next-generation consoles without level design having to be totally re-imagined, thus turning the Crash we know and love into an unrecognisable mess? Worst things have happened (we’re looking at you, Sonic). Maybe some things are better left viewing through rose-tinted spectacles, eh?

The Last Of Us 2

So, Naughty Dog says that it has at least one more game coming to PS4 this generation. While one of those might possibly be the aforementioned orange goon (we wouldn't put a £1 bet on it), it’s certainly feasible (practically certain) that a sequel to 2013’s epic, post-apocalyptic, zombie-bashing, heartstring-tugging action adventure is coming. The only question is: when will it be revealed?

Well, all the DLC for The Last Of Us has been done and dusted, the Remastered version came out on PS4 last summer, so Naughty Dog must surely be spending most of its time putting the development wheels in motion. Sure, Sony may hang out for the bigger platform of E3 2016 to showcase its The Last of Us 2 wares, but it would certainly blow the roof off the PlayStation Experience if it does make an appearance.

Resident Evil 7/Devil May Cry 5

Did you bag one of the now sold-out Capcom VIP tickets for the PlayStation Experience? If you did, you could be in for one hell of a treat. With the exclusivity deal already in place for Capcom’s Street Fighter V, could another of the heavyweight franchises be about to join Ryu and friends in the PlayStation fold? Following the critical and commercial success of the Resi Remake, and the fairly warm reception afforded to the episodic Revelations 2, we still don’t know which direction Capcom will go for the next proper installment of Resident Evil, but we’re hoping it will be the right one.

Could old hands like Shinji Mikami or Hideki Kamiya be brought back in to rebirth the main series, given similar moves with Shenmue and Final Fantasy VII? Perhaps this could be the case with the next iteration of Devil May Cry instead, as both men worked on that series too? It seems like a long shot for things to be quite that perfect, but something huge (beyond Street Fighter) seems to be brewing in time for the PlayStation Experience. Either (or both!) of these would be heavy hitters for Capcom and Sony.

Shenmue HD Collection

The audience-shattering announcement of Shenmue 3 at E3 2015 this year, and the subsequent outpouring of emotion (and dollars) from its fans who funded the Kickstarter campaign, should be more than enough to convince the powers that be that a Shenmue HD Collection could fly off the shelves. We’re talking about the revival of Shenmue 1 and 2 for PS4, which would make perfect sense and allow players to learn or reacquaint themselves with the back-story of the cult classic before the third instalment arrives!

Though the former would be tricky to remaster, having originally released on Dreamcast, the payback would surely be worth it from fans eager to relive, or experience for the first time, what made this open-world adventure such a joy to play. With the hype wagon still rolling from the news of Shenmue 3, an announcement of a Shenmue HD Collection at the PlayStation Experience would capitalise on the excitement and totally bring the roof down.

God of War 4

When the huge, hulking great frame of a new God of War hero (or maybe even the old one?) graces the big screen once more, fans will be in raptures. The fourth main instalment of the God of War franchise is happening, and we’d imagine it won’t feature series’ stalwart, Kratos, following his fate in God of War 3. Brains will truly be fried if the PlayStation Experience event is the platform to unleash the new protagonist, but excitement could hit new levels if God of War 4 showcased during the PlayStation VR section of Sony’s press conference.

During a presentation at the Game Developer’s Conference earlier this year, God of War’s fast-paced violence was showcased during a virtual reality demo; an experience that Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida described as “empowering”. The announcement of God of War 4 alone will be enough to get our juices flowing, but pairing it with VR too would mean that many more people would be preordering Sony’s virtual reality headset as soon as it’s available.

I'm excited for God Of War IV and hopefully the reveal of Sony Bend's open-world horror game. Maybe another megaton like Street Fighter console exclusivity could be in the cards as well.

Hopefully we get some info on Final Fantasy VII Remake as well. They said they would share more later in the year and this is probably the last opportunity to do that.

Just wanna see more gameplay on Horizon: Dawn Zero, Uncharted 4, and any new IP coming from Sony but knowing them, they'll probably wait for E3 2016 to show more stuff. Also I'm not expecting much Sony to show any game trailers at VGA next month so I can understand they want to show more stuff at Playstation Experience.

Hope they actually show something new and interesting this year. They need to stop milking the nostalgia people have for their bad franchises.

I want to see more of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, whatever Sucker Punch is working on, a new God of War, hopefully, and I definitely want more information on PS2 emulation on PS4.

Yeah, would be a killer if they announce the PS2 disks can be fully used with PS4s.

@charizard1605: Sony Bend over Sucker Punch right now. I'm almost certain SP is making another inFAMOUS and while I really enjoy those games a new IP is more exciting to me.

Sony and Capcom announce a new partnership to make Resident Evil 7 with Mikami directing...drool

Kojima announces he will be heading his own new studio as part of Sony Worldwide Studios. Silent Hills is back in development.

I hate Sucker Punch games so that doesn't interest me. They aren't even endearing with their generic comic book art style. They're just stupid cunts. Why is Sony Bend expected to do anything of value at this point? Why can't Sony assemble the original Twisted Metal team together to make the ultimate car combat game with destructable environments? And don't leave it to their generic horseshit teams that can't actually make games.

I just want to be bombarded with good games. Prefrably new IP's. But if a sequal looks like it's doing new and interesting things, so be it.

I'm banking they'll reveal one of the big unannounced 1st party ips from either Sucker Punch, Bend, or Santa Monica at PSX while the other two are shown at E3 2016. I'm hoping it's either Bend or Sucker Punch that shows their game, because I honestly don't care about God of War at this point. They need to show Rime like yesterday. Deep Down would be nice as well.

If that is as good to collect as Steam Trading Cards, it'll be a big hit. For those who don't know what the heck STC is: if a game Steam Trading Cards eligible, you get a card drop when you play the said game. The amount you receive is always half of the set. In case the set is odd numbered, you get one more.

So what happens if you complete the set? You can get an additional emoticons and a profile background after you craft it. Those cards, emoticons and the background could also be sold in the market (a few of those could cost 50USD) also +100 Steam Account experience.

P.S. How could you complete the set if you only have half of it? You have two options: ask your friend and trade for it (for free) or buy the remaining in the market).

Just hope to see more games I wish to play. I don't play fighters, JRPGs and wont pay more than $15 for David Cage type games. Wont buy the B2S, HR collection coming or any other remaster. Couldn't enjoy FF7 back then, don't give a rat's ass now, Liked Shenmue will play that eventually, Horizon, Uncharted 4. GoW 4 needs to impress. Hope it does.

For starters nice hype thread!

Anyways, I'm not expecting to see any No Man's Sky or Final Fantasy XV, but I'll probably still be a bit dissappointed anyways when it turns out I was right :(

On the other hand, I wanna see more Abzu, Ratchet&Clank, Firewatch and plenty of other things! I'm curious to see more of Dark Souls 3, and For Honor got my interest at E3.

Also, no Rime? Aw...

Basically I'm already convinced I'll get a PS4 at some point or another, though I'm not sure when. I want there to be as many awesome games available for it when I do!

Not so much of the amount of validation it gives to the PS4 as the amount of damage it does to its rival.

Ah you've played Killer Instinct? Because the mechanics and gameplay were received very well, but there was a lack of content. That problem is gone since there are already 3 seasons, but keep talking, and laughing about games you don't own, or haven't played yet. Just shows the true colors of cow again.

@whistle_blower: fair cop sir. I apologise that my post could have easily been taken the wrong way btw, you have put good effort and work into this thread, so didn't mean to undermine.

On topic, i would love to see what Sony Bend is up to, and i want to see Ratchet and Clank progress. If true ps2 emulation is shown (including either a solid software download launch, or disc compatibility) then i would consider that a bombshell. The rest is a bonus

@nyadc: I think they decided to scrap the free 2 play model and make it a retail game so they are basically starting over. I like the concept so hopefully it doesn't go to waste.

I'm expecting nothing but greatness like Sony's previous shows.

Yeah, very good question. Crapcom is going to delay the game, build hype and anticipation and then there's a huge let down

Hope they actually show something new and interesting this year. They need to stop milking the nostalgia people have for their bad franchises.

I'm looking forward to AGENT, a release window would be nice, 2016? One can dream, i mean it was announced back in 2009 along with The Last Guardian.

I hope we get something from Rockstar. I don't care if its Agent, Red Dead 3, Bully 2, GTA V single player DLC. I just want to know what the hell they are doing right now.

I'm going to reserve this spot. All the traffic comes to the posts in the 40's.

PGW and TGS were both terrible, so I'm not sure why people are excited. Sony only tries at E3.

PGW was good and TGS is a show for Japanese audiences so you should have never expected to be wowed by it even though we did get a few good announcements like Kingdom Hearts 2.8, Ni Oh, and Gravity Rush 2 + Remaster.
