Playstation has released the most successful home consoles despite having the simplest formula

>Affordable(except PS3 but it was rectified)

>Very little gimmicks

>Great third party support

>Good hardware

>Nice features and services

In a sense I understand why Nintendo wants to do things their own way but what Sony has been doing doesn't seem particularly groundbreaking or outside the box. They keep it very simple. They give a nice consoles with good games to play and push high-quality exclusives on it.

I feel Nintendo and Microsoft could be just as successful but they always try some bizarre things that are really questionable. Xbox with its whole TV/Sports/Kinect garbage. Nintendo constantly trying to avoid confrontations and searching the latest fad to catch on(which worked with the Wii, failed miserably with the WiiU and worked with the Switch). I feel they're looking for a buried treasure when the answer is right in their faces.

Of course I might also be totally wrong and they could fall flat on their face if they try to give something akin to what Sony gives(Xbox and GC might be examples of that, although I think the reasons PS2 trounced them are fairly obvious)

With that said, the formula is going to change as the way in which people consume entertainment changes.

And sooner than they think, I reckon.

I imagine the days of having a VCR-sized box in your living room will be behind us relatively soon, like a couple generations.

I do hope Sony can solve PS3 backwards compatibility because I have a few games I really like to replay like Drakengard 3, Tales of Graces F and Folklore (never played this one).

@i_p_daily: Not as gimmicky as Kinnect, which you were forced to purchase and it didn't work for 99% of the games that used it lol. But yeah I do agree with ya, psvr is still a gimmick just like all VR is.

Just read DF take on Driveclub which they consider the best VR driving experience over what PC offers even with more power.

I for one don't care about VR i think is a gimmick in both PC and PS markets.

Just so we are clear where i stand,VR is a gimmick for me,but then again Sony didn't force it on us or made it mandatory,there will always be some gimmick in all generations but forcing it is the real problem.

Sony has been doing an amazing job this generation, but they are far from flawless. While PS1 and PS4 are in my top 5 consoles of all time, PS2 and PS3 aren't even in my top 10.

All companies have ups and downs, which is why i find brand loyalty very stupid and close minded.
