For me, this is good news, as now I can delete the PS HOME application off my PS3 and free up some more needed space. As everyone knows, PS HOME was a social media and community application that allowed you to own your own apartment and invite 3D models of your friends to it for social gatherings. There was also a mall, movie theater and entertainment room that had bowling, air hockey, and other games to play. The idea was sound at first, but this was obviously created as a money grab since Sony wasn't charging anyone anything for online gaming. I think they felt this would compensate for those lose funds. If you wanted to decorate your apartment you would have to pay real money for furniture, pictures, lamps, beds, etc.. You could also buy different clothes for your avatar. There was a mall with many stores where could buy many different things using real money as well. You could purchase games or rent a movie. Sony hoped this would be like Second Life and get millions of gamers to spend real money in this evironment. I don't think that happened at all. Every time I went there I found a bunch of teens standing around dancing and chatting in bubble text. Many of these teens were immature and acting a fool. I never stayed more then 30 mins before I was bored to death. Everytime I went back, there was a huge update that had to be installed, which took more then 30mins. I tried deleting the PS HOME application, but every time Sony has an O/S update, it returns.
So now the PS HOME application is being fore-closed for good. Thank God. This had to be one of the worse application on the PS3 and I hope Sony doesn't try to do something like this on the PS4. You can read about the HOME closure here.
