http://www.engadget.com/2014/12/24/playstation-now-samsung-smart-tvs/

First off, this is my first post and I do apologize if this topic has been covered already. 37 yrs old and a proud owner of an Xbox1. Well proud as of lately but I wasn't too happy last year. Anyways. Back to the topic at hand.

Seems as tho playstation will be streaming over 200 playstation 3 games thru playstation now for Samsung TVs. I know a lot of people/gamers (mostly playstation/PC owners) talk about MS letting their games go to PC & that it makes owning an Xbox one irrelevant.

My question is. Do you think eventually playstation4 games will be on the list as well to go to Samsung TVs. All you need is a playstation now subscription and a dual shock controller. If it does happen then gamers wouldn't have to buy a PS4 to play its games.

Your thoughts and again, if this has been discussed already then just lock it.

I doubt that PS4 streaming is going to happen, Sony can't be that stupid.

@Epak_: did you ready the article? Looks pretty set in stone from what I've read. Sony isn't the brightest of the companies out there. Hence the predicament they're in (the struggles with the electronics).

Sony isn't afraid to partner with competitors if it means getting PlayStation Now in more homes,

By gamers FOR gamers, the SONY current gen 8 console leader PS4 WAY.

Simply put, no. Sony make stupid business decisions but they will not allow or do something that will render the ps4 obsolete. Don't see this happening for at least 5 years if they decide to do it in the future.

I just brought a Samsung 4k TV and it comes with PSNow in it. Won't ever use it but for people that have a subscription to it, that's a good thing.

Nope, I didn't. If they do that I bet they have made a huge deal with Samsung. Otherwise it would be just stupid (talking 'bout PS4 streaming, not PS3/PS2/PS1).

It's good, even great, in theory, but it's not working right now.

I have a Samsung TV, and I also have to pay extortionate prices for good internet. I tried the PS app on my TV a month ago. Didn't work properly. Just like PS Now didn't work properly with my PS4.

Until the technology starts to work the way it was intended, video game streaming will suck. Thus you'll still complain about purchasing new consoles and physical games/digital downloads, but there's no practical alternative.

Only PS3 games, and only a selection of them. If/When it actually works properly, and if Sony's pricing is reasonable, I would jump at it.

Not going to happen. The streaming service is just another cash flow generator, and a sorry excuse to "try" to offer gamers easier access to last gens titles.... bunch of bs.

^PS Now doesn't offer the full library of PS3 games. It also offers much lower resolution and an annoying input lag. All these sacrifices for a premium monthly subscription.

Get a used PS3 and a batch of the games you want. It's cheaper and you'll play the games you want to play, and you'll have better resolution and lag free controls.

Sony has/is remastering most of the popular gen 7th games so why waste money on streaming games? I know you're just trying to stick up for your fellow cows but PSNow is a major cash grab

@Ant_17: Even if PS Now had PS4 games, it really wouldn't make the PS4 pointless. PSNow is a cloud renting/streaming service with no possibility of actually owning the games you play. In addition there's more lag and lower resolutions (limited to 720p) when compared to playing PS4 games natively. The PS4 would be superior in pretty much every way and would also offer PS Now on it.

you say "no point in buying a PS4", but PS-Now is a service to play PS3, PSP, and some Vita games. (A very low and limited ammount of PS3,PSP,VITA games are available.)

So why does that have to do with the PS4?

It's Sony's start on the road to a full digital streaming service and the reason they bought GaiKai in first place. Why spend money on designing and building a dedicated console, that's outdated before it's even launched, when you can sell a subscription service and rent games instead? It's the console manufacturers wet dream and the ultimate form of DRM.

Is paying for renting a limited number of games through streaming at an overpriced cost better than actually just owning the system and its games? That why I said if it is the case that PS4 games are available through PS-NOW (which is not the case), then I guess he could be correct that you wouldnt have reason to own a PS4.

Im not sure if an XBOX-NOW service that had X1 game is actually worth than actually just owning a X1.

You get the point?

Sony should just focus on making a working emulator on the PS4, at least for PS1 and PS2 titles... they could probably do some kind of PSTV style Vita functionality for playing compatible Vita games, PSP games, PS1 games and mini games.

PS3 emulation might be a tougher thing, then again I remember people said PS2 emulation wasn't possible on PS3 and in the end Sony did it. Though people mistakenly think the games were ported, they weren't.

If they're looking to profit, I say do what they did last gen, don't offer BC as a functionality trait, rather make an emulator that runs in tandem with the ISO as a digital title rather than through disc media so they can make a few extra dollars on each game they sell digitally. That would make the effort worth their while, and something they can profit from.

I can see a benefit for this streaming gaming to open markets up outside of those that buy PS hardware, but as far as gaming goes on consoles I wish they'd keep it all localized.

One thing I'm curious of though, do these TVs come with a gaming controller? I'm curious, after all I'm sure people want a trial before committing to something, but then again how do you try it if you don't have a controller? Paying $60 just to partake in a trial isn't really a trial.

Anyway, PSNow is a cash grab from Sony and you know this. Just as much of a cash grab as all those remasters.

@njricand: They posted a 780 million dollar profit last quarter. I'd say they are turning the ship around. And considering no PS4 games are on PS Now I wouldn't say it's that big of a deal.
