Ok so right now I think my parents are out buying my PS3 for this coming holiday, so I was wondering, will it look like crap on my regular TV? It's like a 40inch flat screen and it's an older sony, it's nice though, I like it. (I think it's form like 2004)

But will it look like moldy crap on my TV?

Also, if I get my PS3 and take it out of the box, hook it up to my Sony *non-HD* TV, throw in the Spiderman movie it comes with (which is a blu-ray movie by the way) and watch it, will it:

A)Not work

B)Work as it would on a fancy 5000 dollar HDTV

C)Other (Please Specify)

Also, no stupid Microsoft fanboys please, becasue I AM NOT GETTING AN XBOX 360!!!!

Thanks

No, it will not look like crap. It just will not look as good as it could on a HDTV. And your Spider-Man will look like a regular DVD on a SDTV.

Playing a ps3 on a SDTV is just not worth it.You are just not getting a fraction of the graphics that ps3 is actually off.Well atleast when i play a game in 6x4 which is the res of a SDTV,all of my games look like total crap.

But wait you dont have to buy that fancy 5k HDTV,cant you just buy a $200 monitor which is compatable with the ps3.Yes it will be half the size of your SDTV but seriously it's TOTALLY worth it.

But WAIT what monitor do you currently have with your PC???

1. Yes. They're $60. Not worth it, IMO.

2. Yes. It's good.

3. A cheap HDTV is about $700; mine cost $1900, and you can spend $4000 easily.

playing it on a screen of that size in 480i it is going to look like crap imo. maybe i'm just picky but I have played my PS3 with that resolution on a 37 inch and wanted to bash my face into a wall.

Yes i am 99% sure that your monitor is supported by the ps3 and you will be able to play in full HD with that monitor but you will have to buy some cables that will connect both of them.

Well now it's easy for you.Just find those cables when your ps3 arrives and you will be able to see the difference by yourself. And 19" is not really small for gaming if you sit close.I am sure you would not want to play in your SDTV after playing with your monitor.

And happy gaming with the ps3.:)

It will still look good enough. The only kick in the balls is that text can sometimes look too small on an SDTV. This gen, MotorStorm and The Darkness have been prime offenders when it comes to unreadable text. If I were you, I would definitely invest in an HDTV to get the full benefits of the system.

No no you dont need to do that with the ps3.Only the xflop 360 needs it but it still shows the RROD.

Sadly console gamers are so much mistaken that you need a HDTV to get the full benefits. The TC's monitor has a higher resolution that 720p you know and games with 1080p support will look better on his monitor than a fancy 720p HDTV.

No point going to the hassle of cooling down the PS3. People only buy fans for the Xbox 360 because it's well known that the console can overheat and brick as a result. Although the PS3 can get warm at the side vents, you shouldn't worry about it as the console can shut itself off if it ever gets too hot.

i believe the tc deduced that earlier on in the topic. hdtvs mostly come in larger sizes than pc monitors too. i'd feel silly playing solitaire on a 42" screen...

I know it's the general tone that just makes me laugh. But do you know that a lower resolution can actually increase performance.Well it did mine in counter stike in 8x6 resolution(600p).And i just put 16xQAA on my graphics card to make sure the game doesnt display a jaggie due to the lower res.;)

Compared to an HDTV it wont look as good. But it will still look sick on your SDTV. Mine looks ok, granted I'd love to be playing it in full HD, but I'm not made of money.

that's just the case in pc games isn't it? i remember attempting to increase the resolution on wow when i used to play that and increasing the resolution made the framerate plummet. a console will run stuff at the same rate no matter what resolution you have right?

If his TV doesn't have HD inputs, then no, he is not getting the full benefit of the system. He will have to use the composite cables included in the box, which don't have enough bandwidth to output an HD image. Unless he's got component or HDMI, he'l just get a 480i image which lacks clarity when blown up to a big size. Sure, games will still look good in SD, but they look much sharper in HD. Plus if he sticks with 480i, the jump from DVD to Blu-ray will be worthless ie. no benefit in even having Blu-ray.

Oh well you completely misunderstood my post and after reading what i wrote it's probably not your mistake.I meant a lower resolution CAN increase performance in online games like how good you are playing. It doesnt have to do anything with performance or framerates.I mean i get more kills in CS with a lower resolution. And PC's allow extreme anti aliasing which you can put in an online game which you playing in a lower resolutions to reduce the jaggies created by the lower resolution.

Not really, Oblivion looks awesome on my SDTV, even thou its on HDTV now. Beyond small text, I didnt find alot things missing out without the HD, beyond somewhat of a better look on it.

A large TV beats a monitor. Besides, I saw my friend using a monitor with his 360 and the colours looked a lot less vibrant.

i think people just assume that consoles are plugged into the telly in your living room while pcs stay in the office. all hdtvs can have consoles plugged into them too whereas some monitors need other cables bought for them to work. people also don't buy hdtvs just for games though. they're also used for watching tv, dvds, vhs and some cable channels broadcast in hd too. i#m sure theres some way of getting hd channels on your pc but for a little more money you can get it on an hdtv straight out of the box and people thesedays can''t be bothered to learn how to get the most out of their pc monitor

Thanks Darthmatt.

Ok so the conclusion I'm coming to here is this: That the PS3 has wicked graphics, and the only way I'll acheive them is to get an HDTV or get cable to hook up to my monitor. Also, that the PS3 played on a regular Television, will have roughly the same graphics as say, an xflop 360 game with lesser graphics. So ultimatley, if I don't have an HDTV, I will get the graphics of an xflop 360?

Someone care to clarify and please stay on topic here?

the quality of graphics really depends on the game you're playing. some may look better than 360 on ps3 and vice versa regardless of whether you have it plugged into a high resolution screen. the bottom line is that both consoles will look better if you plug them into an hdtv / monitor

[QUOTE="Thinker_145"][QUOTE="Darthmatt"]Compared to an HDTV it wont look as good. But it will still look sick on your SDTV. Mine looks ok, granted I'd love to be playing it in full HD, but I'm not made of money.SolidSnake35
You got a $600 console but cant get a $200 monitor. This is just madness.Do console gamers ACTUALLY think that you need those fancy bravia or something to play in true HD.No i am serious about this.:|

A large TV beats a monitor. Besides, I saw my friend using a monitor with his 360 and the colours looked a lot less vibrant.

Then your friends monitor is not very good. And yes the TC's monitor isnt anything special either but it's a country mile better than any SDTV.

And i am not saying that those fancy HDTV's are overrated or anything. If you can afford them then good for you but to play on a SDTV just because you cant afford them is just madness. And you know you CAN get PC monitors onpar with those HDTV's in terms of the vibrant colors and all that.

ok so say im playing assassins creed on ps3 without and hdtv and then played the same on a 360 without and hdtv, which would look betterNasty_butler_9

iwouldn'tknow becausei've only played the xbox version. since it's a multi platform title though i'd imagine they both look very similar. with the ps3 being more powerful than the xbox i'd say that it has the capability to produce better graphics but in all cases it's really dependent on the developer to get the most out of the console

They would look the same, The two consoles have for all intents and purposes the same graphics capabilities.

What are you saying.Playing AC on the 360 with a HDTV will absolutely blow away the ps3 running on a SDTV.
