I'll keep this rant short in case no one else agrees, but I'm sick of looking at threads where people compare PS3 launch numbers to 360's.  It doesn't matter if the PS3 sold slightly more at launch than the 360 because the 360 is already millions of units ahead.

Let's pretend that the two of us are going to have a race.  The gun goes off, and you run 10 miles at 6mph.  Once you hit the 10 mile mark, I decide to start running.  I'm running a 6.3 mph.  I'm awesome.  I'm going to crush you!  But wait!  As so as I start running at 6.3mph, you speed up to 6.4 mph.  It doesn't matter that I started off slightly faster than you did, you're now moving faster than me and had a huge head start.  I'm not going to catch up like that.

You=360

Me= PS3

Please stop acting like the 360 didn't have a year head start.  It did.  If the PS3 wants to catch up, it's going to need to move a lot faster.

This really applies to sales and games library for the 360.

That was all I was saying... People act as if once the PS3 picks up alittle steam the 360 will simply STOP selling... Are they mad?  Personally I think the 360 will continue to outsell the PS3 (if only slightly) until something major hits.. like DMC4..  That'll be more than enough to solidify it's lead over sony..

Yeah, but what if you (360) starts running out of steam, and I (PS3) starts to pick up steam because I have more stamina. Lets face it, we are going to be running for about 5 to 6 years (console lifespan), so really anything can happen.

There will be times that the PS3 will outsell the 360 on certain releases but overall, the 360 will keep its lead in terms of world wide sales unless the momemtom of quality PS3 games keep selling then it could prabrably catch up the 360. But I don't see that coming because Motorstorm doesn't look all that interesting although Heavenly Sword will probrably keep cows busy until MGS4 and DMC4.

That is possible, but there isn't any tangible evidence to show that yet.  I'm sick of PS3 fans trying to passoff mediocre sales as great because they would have been good last year.

Do people need reminding that PS3 aint even out in Europe yet? Europe is huuuuuge compared to USA and Japan, and its the most eager country that wants the ps3.

Once the PS3 is officially out worldwide, then fanboys should start nit picking.

Wait wait, Europe is first of all not a country.

Secondly, the PS3 is ONLY going to be released as the high-end 60GB model here in Sweden (Europe).

At the magnificent price of 6500 KR.

That 's equal to 920 US dollar.

Don't count on Europe to be SONY-land this time around. The Xbox 360 is going well here, not to mention the Wii which has been sold out CONSTANTLY since it's December release.

Well, UK seems to wanting the PS3 pretty bad to me. Big W got preorders of PS3 every few minutes, and i work at CEX, and we had a playable Ps3, and the que's were leading to outside of the shop. We got loads of people pesturing us if we were taking preorders and we told them no, cuz we dont deal with pre-ordered goods.

£425 is alot of money, and when converted to dollars, its around the 700-800 dollar mark, but people are wiling to spend that much on a Ps3.

All Sony has to do is set a price drop and the sales would shoot up. Oh wait, wasnt the PS2 like 400 pound, and still sold like hot cakes?

Hell, even in japan, the PS2 didnt have any launch titles until 2 weeks later, but the console got sold out within that time.

Nowadays, the situation has changed.

Not really. If they continue to sell equally like now which I seriously doubt. PS3 sales wil pick up when some good games come. Sony still has Japan. 360 is non existent there. PS3 can outsell 360 worldwide by selling good in Japan.

true, but who hyped the toy story like graphics? media did, not sony, even though they had their fair share of overhype.  Things have changed, and i aint saying Sony will be number one again after all the faults they been putting through from the Ps3, but im sure when games like Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry and GT actually come out,  sales will rise because die hard fans would do anything to have taht game. Its same case with Halo, im sure people will be queing up like crazy when Halo 3 comes out, and at the same time, will probably want to get a 360+Halo 3 bundle for that matter.

umm...do stores even know how many PS3's they are guaranteed to get? NO, so as long as preorders are concerned, Stores can preorder customers consoles as much as they want, but only a 1/3 or less might end up with a Ps3 at launch. Very few stores like Gamestation will have a limit to how many preorders they will take.

Then 'guaranteeing' these systems at launch would be a bad idea, huh? And - seeing as these sites are in fact, doing just that - I have a hard time believing they don't have a clue as to how many they are getting...

I wouldn't have a problem with Sony lacking if they didn't start talking noises about "the Next-gen won't start until they say so" crap. And I think your logic would have worked if we're not talking about technology if you know what I mean.

Yes, when the rabbit is limping.  The PS3 isn't showing enough momentum to catch up.  It may gain that momentum, but nothing has happened to prove that.

Funny, 'cause from what I see - many retailers are still taking preorders (Play, Game) which would tell me things aren't as rosy in the UK as you'd like to think...

umm...do stores even know how many PS3's they are guaranteed to get? NO, so as long as preorders are concerned, Stores can preorder customers consoles as much as they want, but only a 1/3 or less might end up with a Ps3 at launch. Very few stores like Gamestation will have a limit to how many preorders they will take.

Then 'guaranteeing' these systems at launch would be a bad idea, huh? And - seeing as these sites are in fact, doing just that - I have a hard time believing they don't have a clue as to how many they are getting...

The reason they are doing this is because many stores are now doing "first come first serve" basis, regardless if you were the 1st or the 100th person to preorder. Thats exactly what HMV are doing. Unlike before with PS2 , if you were the 30th person who preordered the PS2, the store will reserve the 30th console for you and you could pick it up any time you wished.

[QUOTE="Socrates88"][QUOTE="Nugtoka"]Ah yes let the waiting continuennavidson

About waiting? Let put this in propective please. Thos games you say that's coming out will be in 2007-2008, right? The 360 launch in 2005, right? Now if PS3 waited for a list RPG in 2008, and was release in 2006? Tell me, how does that looks bad with the PS3, if it's the same time frame?

Instead of reposting my starting argument in every thread that I see this mistake being made, I'll quote them in this one.

LOL. That post has nothing to do with this topic. All I'm saying is the why is PS3 waiting a bad thing, when Xbox360 is waiting as well? You think the tortoise can really beat a rabbit with a head start? lol, wake up dude you in a fairy tale.

Yes, when the rabbit is limping.  The PS3 isn't showing enough momentum to catch up.  It may gain that momentum, but nothing has happened to prove that.

How is it lacking momentum when the sales showing it starting off faster than the 360? Do you not understand that? I think what got you so confuse it the fact there are plenty of supply of the PS3. $600 is still a bargain hard to swallow, but don't think people don't want it, thus the 1.9 million in sales. Don't get caught up on internet slander or anti-PS3 sites. The reality is most people see the PS3 as a great system that is selling well. Sony(SNE) past month stocks went up 10% showing a good sign of progress in the year of the PS3 launch.

First of all, Sony's game division is losing 100's of millions each quarter over the past year.  It lost 1 billion over the course of a year.  That's the price of investing in new technology, so it's not shocking, but the PS3 is currently losing Sony, not making it.

Second of all, did you read the first post in this thread.  The 360 is currently selling better than the PS3.  Everything before November can be considered a head start for the 360.

The PS3 has great potential.  If I had an HD television, I would buy one now for BluRay.  I don't, and neither does the majority of the world.  I want a PS3, but not at $500.  It doesn't matter how much interest there is in a system, if the general cosumer public doesn't have enough interest to spend the retail price.

Right now it's fact.  The PS3 has potential but hasn't delivered.  The 360 is delivering and offers continued potential through 2008.

I have it and I don't think it's worthwhile. It has potential, and there's a change that this potential won't ever be realized, or be realized too late for it to matter.

we need to remember that this is still the same bunch that delivered the best selling console in history, the ps2. i don't think for a second that they can't pull the same result out for the ps3------------though it is getting a slow start. only time will tell.

Honestly - I have no idea what you are getting at. If Game.com is 'guaranteeing' a preordered system on 'launch day', doesn't that mean they would have to know whether they have enough to actually fulfill the orders?!?!?!

'First come, first serve' has no relevance here - they have it printed right on their website. 'Order a PS3 today and have it on March 23rd'...    ...isn't it logical to assume they are taking a preset number of orders for which they know they can fulfil????   :?

I was saying that the 360 having sold millions more units than the 360 is fact.  I thought it was clear with what I was responding to.

Whether or not purchasing a PS3 right now is worthwhile is a matter of opinion.  It's my opinion that it's not right now.

Last I heard, Xbox360 sold more than the PS3 at launch.

Xbox360 sold/ship 1.5 million by their first year, while the PS3 only managed to sell/ship 1 million. Of course fanboys can argue that the PS3 was not released in Europe or what not, but the fact remains, the Xbox360 sold more.

OhSnapitz

I agree. Sony needs something major to move systems.

Use your brain. Of course the 360 had a headstart as far is next gen is concerned. A full year. The question of the day now is, is it M$'s fault that they were smart, had the tech and had their stuff together to launch a full year ahead of all the competition? On top of that they provided state of the art tech (for a console) at a reasonable price? Blame Sony for jumping the gun late, having a "oh noes" spring launch and limited number of systems for the nov launch (if thats what you call it), and finally, after almost 4 months, no damn games.

PS3 sales are only gonna surge if they start getting some quality games, and i don't see any quality games coming out for it till 08 (of course i'm assuming MGS4 will be delayed)

I agree with the TC, but this still does not excuse Sony from the fact that they totally botched the launch compared to what the 360 and Wii did. Sony may have started before 360, but they still failed the launch either way you look at it.
