When rumours first started about the new Nintendo handheld, people were saying the Pokemon developers had a dev kit for it. If that is true, and they were amongst the first to get a kit, then why have we not heard more about a Pokemon 3DS game?

I would have thought Pokemon would be a launch title?

Pokemon has never been a launch title. Like, ever. And I'd imagine they're always among the first to get these dev kits since they're a Nintendo studio. Remember though, they're developing Pokemon Black and White for the DS right now. They're not going to rush more games out just because theres a new system.

They didn't get Pokemon on the Gameboy Advance until 2003, two years after the handheld came out. And Pokemon Diamond and Pearl didn't make it to the DS till 2007, almost three years after the DS launched.

From what I know, they're busy working on the new DS game, so we'll probably see pokemon on the 3DS a few years after launch

Maybe they're going to develop a 3DS version of Black and White. Who knows.

Definitely will be in line for a remake. Hope they start with a fresh game first though.

I hadn't considered that. That is quite likely now I think about it. Just like we had Twilight Princess on GC and Wii, they might do the same with Pokemon Black and White on the DS and 3DS.

I dunno. Pokemon Emerald came out after the DS and it was still only on the Gameboy Advance. And Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green came out mere months before the DS and they were GBA only.

The thing with the 3DS is that the 3D effects happens even on 2D games. They just pop out of the screen but it still a 2D screen. I don't know how it would work out if they make Pokemon Black and white as a 3D environment. I will admit that it sounds cool but not sure how Pokemon fans would take it.

It's so revolutionary they're not ready to announce it. And honestly, since it's got to be a real fully-polygonal Pokemon game at this point, that's not far from the truth. They want to save that reveal for later to maximize hype.

If they do make another Pokemon game then it will probably be a remake of Ruby or Sapphire but I don't actually see them ever remaking those games. What I can see them doing is developing the third Generation V game (Black and Whites Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum) and releasing it for the 3DS but I'm not sure. I think its more likely though that Nintendo will wait until the 3DS has sold its millions and release the next generation of Pokemon games probably another 4 years down the line.

With the 3DS the Pokémon games could either continue in their traditional handheld style with its top-down view and 2-D battles or transition into a console style game with a large 3D world with big 3D battles.

I would like to have a combination of both

I'm hoping for a massive proper Pokemon RPG for the next Nintendo console.

It would be super weird if the 3DS Pokemon game still looked like Black/White. In fact it would probably hurt the platform's image if such a key first-party game was top-down with sprites.

There are some little 3D elements in Pokemon Black and White, though none of which are truly game changing. It still focuses a lot on the top down view and the typical Pokemon formula, so it's getting there, slowly, but surely.

thats a really good point.. For a while I couldnt understand WHY on earth Black/white was a ds game but this actually makes sense.. They want to save what will be the biggest bombshell in the series history.. Fully 3D pokemon game.. for the right time

black and white were just released, so unless they're porting it, i don't see a new game happening so soon.
