http://ds.ign.com/articles/782/782443p2.html Cool that's about what i was expecting anyway i think cause of gamespots dumb review scale the sound and Graphics will bring it down to a lower 8 but still IGN has fair reviews where graphics don't decrease points.

It's Pokemon. It'll be a good game for me to play every now and then on the DS. I've been needing one ever since EBA got stale.

It's not going to lower the sales in absolutely anyway. This game caused a plastic shortage in Japan. It's not going to bomb.

Excelent thats the exact score I predicted for GS, granted they will scale it down to around a 8.1 just to seem harsher, but thats still good news.

Probably 8 that's what it's been for years. Anyway 40+ hours of play and Wi-Fi should keep us playing for a long time

Hmm they need to make a pokemon game where they incorperate all the previous places ie Jhoto, Hoenn.

Pokemon titles need to change, I wouldn't mind seeing the following take place:

  • STOP adding damn pokemon. The original set was fine, and you add some types cool, so add some then. But I don't need 8 different starting Pokemon for the fire element alone. :|
  • Make it 3d, the DS can handle it.
  • Change the battle system, hell I wouldn't mind a Tales/Star Ocean style battle system.

Yeah, that would seriously be awesome. Gold/Silver took a right step in that aspect. Johto (Gold/Silver) and even travel to Kanto (Red/BLue/Yellow) If they make one where you can visit all of those places that would own. :D

I'm still expecting an 8.0 here though.

^Changing it to a full 3D world = win. Im getting tired of sprites. And seriously, they need to stop with the pokemon. There's almost half a thousand right now, isn't there? And the sound is weak. They need to put in some quality clips and redo the sound effects. Regardless, my gamestop broke the streetdate and I picked both up. They're decent, 8.5 sounds right.

Hmm that takes me back to the days when pokemon was huge.  Everyone had the cars whatched the shows and alot played the Red/blue games.  But as any fad it all went downhill quickly and over the years only the games have remained decent.

And to the TC quit your wining graphics should affect the score.

Yeah I think I'll try it out this time around anyway.

But you're right on sound. I don't want/need full voice acting, but hell the Pokemon should (by now) be able to say their names fairly clear.

wouldn't work. for your first point, all the starters aren't available in every game, only 3. and they need to change the pokmon in the games to add variety and make every game a new experience. for the 2nd, the DP 3d on the ds is more than enough for me.

for your last point, this could work and might make them more interesting, but the original pokemon battle system is easy to use, and remember their target audince is young children.

I think I am going to get a DS with Pokemon, MP:H and NSMB on Tuesday and wait until the end of May to get a 360 when Forza 2 *drools* comes out.

I am still undecided on which of D or P I should get. If anyone has the version differences I would be quite appreciative. :)

Johto, Hoenn, Kanto plus the new region all in one game would be massive. Its not like Pokemon games are uber huge, I dont see why GameFreak doesnt do it, man imagine trying to actually catch all 150 from each area plus the legendaries, you would have far too many good Pokemon to choose from, but then they would need to limit the level growth of your monsters and the gym leaders would all have to be set to a tighter level difference. Of course the Elite 4 at the very end should have all level 100 monsters, that would be hardcore.

I know not all are available in any single game, that wasn't my point. I don't need different variations that do the exact same thing. Especially between iterations, when all they essentially do is take the odd creature I got used to before and just put a new name and art design on it despite it being essentially the same thing.

Also, changing the Pokemon name and art doesn't make it new, it just a pseudo fix for what's really repetitive/wrong (the actual game and it's repetitive gameplay over all these iterations).

To be honest I give younger gamers enough credit to move around a pokemon, rather than shift through a menu.

B/c it's time to move on.

What you want is a 2D designed Metroid, would you really care if the world and models were 3D but displayed in a 2D POV? N, or I would at least hope not.

Pokemon isn't the type of genre that dramatically changes in overall gameplay when placed into 3D (unlike Metroid). All it would really do is hopefully* make the worlds more explorable (*wait don't refer to the GC released version).

If you compare the water starters of all the versions, you'll see that they all wind up differently. It you do the same with the fire and grass starters you can see that they all wind up different. I could go on a full explanation but only if you are willing to hear.

I don't speak for everyone on this, but some pokemon(charizard) look terrible in 3D. I prefer the handheld games to be sprites since the artwork is still good in my opinion.

How they end up? I wouldn't really know to be honest, i usually don't use my starters all the way through. This doesn't stop the fact they're overly redundant at start.

I'm simply saying throwing more Pokemon at us isn't the answer to making the titles better. I think it takes away from the games actually.  I like how all these completely common Pokemon aren't even heard of in earlier iterations, but in later ones they're a dime a dozen.

Doesn't mean the art work couldn't be good in 3D. It's the developers fault if their models looked bad in 3D, not that 3D is a bad direction to go for gaming.

How about a cel shaded 3D? To make it similar to the anime.

It seems like in almost every pokemon game the graphics and sounds drag it down. Anyway I can probably see GS giving D/P a low AA.

The only way Pokemon is going to become a AAA game is when (if) Nintendo introduces a new, more powerful handheld, and brings Pokemon into a 3D world.

With a 3D world, they should bring about some serious graphical overhauls, reign in the dated sound, and scale back the Pokedex. I remember Red Version - each Pokemon was pretty different from each other - though you had a few similiarities - and you could always tell what animal they had taken the Pokemon from (for the most part).

Imagine Final Fantasy 1 - 8 traditional world map, FMVs, 3D battles, et cetera. It's likely to happen with Pokemon as it is such a high selling game.

In any case, I'd say it's worthwhile if you're a Pokemon fan in the same way a new Castlevania game is worthwhile if you're a Casltevania fan. The difference between the GBA and DS versions? Graphically? Subtle - but noticeable if you go back to the GBA. Audio? Finally have stereo speakers built in. Overall? It's $35... it's not like you can go too far wrong.

Myself? I'm thinking about it.

Pokemon titles need to change, I wouldn't mind seeing the following take place:

  • Make it 3d, the DS can handle it.
  • .

I totally agree with that. They need to make the next one 3D, like Pokemon Stadium. I don't see why they didn't do it for this version.

I don't speak for everyone on this, but some pokemon(charizard) look terrible in 3D. I prefer the handheld games to be sprites since the artwork is still good in my opinion.

How about a cel shaded 3D? To make it similar to the anime.

isn't Nintendo making an arcade version of Pokemon Battle Revolution for Japan only using cel shaded 3D?

i think they could do a 3d pokemon game fairly well on the ds. FFIII & the upcoming FFCC for the DS are both 3d and both look excellent.

-RPGamer-

wouldn't work. for your first point, all the starters aren't available in every game, only 3. and they need to change the pokmon in the games to add variety and make every game a new experience. for the 2nd, the DP 3d on the ds is more than enough for me.

for your last point, this could work and might make them more interesting, but the original pokemon battle system is easy to use, and remember their target audince is young children.

If you compare the water starters of all the versions, you'll see that they all wind up differently. It you do the same with the fire and grass starters you can see that they all wind up different. I could go on a full explanation but only if you are willing to hear.

Then you can't talk about how all the starters are the same all the way through if you don't even get them to their third forms. Here's the grass starters compared by type:

bulbasaur(grass/poison)

ivysaur(grass/poison)

venusaur(grass/poison)

2nd gen:

All of chikorita's types were grass.

3rd gen:

All of treeko's forms were grass. However, Treeko's stats and movepool were vastly different enough to make it stand apart from past grass starters.

Fire types:

Charmander and Charmeleon were fire types while charizard was a fire/flying combo and has a few dragon traits as well.

2nd gen:

All of cyndaquil's forms were  fire type and didn't have too many good attacks or stats IMO.

3rd gen:

Torchic was a fire type, but Combusken and Blaziken were both fire/fighting types.

The for water types of the first and second gen. They all were pure water type but had different movepools and stats, but in the 3rd gen Mudkip(pure water) becomes a mud/ground combo in it's two evolved forms Marshstomp and Swampert.

There's enough variety in the starters to make each generation different from the last, but a little familiar as well.

And if you must know why there's always new pokemon, it's because there's always new land to explore. Different species belong to different regions so that could be why the people from different continents wouldn't know much about foreign pokemon well since they all care more about their own homes.

It's not going to lower the sales in absolutely anyway. This game caused a plastic shortage in Japan. It's not going to bomb.DarthMar

LOL.... love that "...plastic shortage in Japan..."  PRICELESS LOL!

Anyways yeah, i already bought the game, its my first Pokemon game ever, the idea of capturing critters and powering them up has always appealed to me, but now that I can go online and use my monsters to fight vs others.... oh yeah, lotsa fun, I even went out and bought a new Wireless Router for it.

That'd be fine with me although I heard there's a cell shaded little game that's gonna be on the Wii, but I don't know so don't wuote me.
