First off, damn you April Fools day for making a legit announcement something people unnecessarily doubt.
Moving on:
It's been approximately ten years since the release of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire versions in the States and fans were reinvigorated with the monster catching frenzy on Nintendo's GameBoy Advance. Even since the first and second generation of Pokémon games were remade in the forms of FireRed and LeafGreen versions and HeartGold and SoulSilver versions. This news seems to be have overlooked due to their official announcement today, on April Fools day.The wait, it seems, has come to an end thanks to official word from GameFreak:
"We recently showed you Pokémon X and Y versions at a Nintendo Direct and we excited at the great responses to our upcoming Nintendo 3DS games. Today we're here to tell you there's even more coming from the Pokémon world and to tune back this Friday!"
GameFreak then left this pic today on their official website and via their Twitter account (@pokemon):
While the picture and description offered nothing specific or worth hinting at, a reliable Serebii source went and found this picture:
This source has been correct on numerous occasions, including the Pokémon Platinum, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Pokémon Black and White, and Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 versions announcements. This picture seems to have all the correct dimensions and displays of a typical 3DS game case and of course has a signature Groudon to represent Pokémon Ruby's main cover Pokémon.
This news also coincides with GameFreak's April International Challenge that features the three Hoenn starters on the promotional Japanese display (Serebii has more information on this below):
