Is it Nintendo for rehash.... rebranding... reanimating... retitling fanchises.. when does it stop?

Or is it Sony for keeping the money train (ps2) going... ?

Or is it newcomer Microsoft.. for ditching xbox quickly... what BC? Live, Halo?

Let's vote on it.. and discuss.

Wi-Fi, Bigger Harddrives, Keyboards for your texting over live, pay for online gameing, play and charge kits... 5 or so SKU's with more on the way. HD-DVD add on.

... I wonder who I should vote for?

EA>>>>>>Square Enix >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (Deep breath) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Microsoft >>> Nintendo >>> Sony

EA for releasing the same exact game every year, knowing that it will sell millions. Not just with 1 franchise, but with multiple ones.

Square Enix for releasing a new Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest game daily, knowing that it will automatically sell 300K+ on its first week in Japan.

Microsoft for charging for XBL, and all the insanely expensive add ons.

Nintendo for using Mario to sell games.

Sony doesn't milk that much.

each final fantasy game has a different story and plays mildly to completely different than previous iterations.

Milking? Well lets see. I guess the majority would say Microsoft because of add-ons and subscription fees. But when you think about it even if you don't CHOOSE to buy the wifi adaptor or xbox live gold or even a hard drive, you're still able to play games. Sony on the other hand stuffs their PS3s with these unneeded things for gaming which drives up the cost. So you just gotta weigh the two out. Then you think about how many games each system has. If games adds to the milking then I must vote for Microsoft because they're sure milking me with all these great games I choose to buy for the Xbox 360.

It has to be MS with Live. $50 a year, still get ads, still have to pay 10 bucks for 3 sad maps, still only get P2P. Not to mention overpriced accessories.

Wii ain't much better, the console is just way overpriced considering the featuers and hardware it has.

Sony surprisingly is on the last place in the milking category, it's the only one with a decent free online and the console itself is pretty much a good all around package despite the high price at the launch.

And that was an unbiased hermit opinion.

hey man . . . your fanboy is showing

see i like having the luxury of knowing that when i get a wireless router i wont have to pay anything but my ISP's internet price to be able to play online

also i enjoy charging my wireless controller straight out of the box. . .

and i very much enjoy watching HD movies and not having to pay extra

Microsoft are the biggest milkers of all and thats just the truth

i would like to also point out that i am not a fanboy and play 360 alot at my cousins place i have nothing against the console just the company that manufactures it. . .

Nintendo with Mario.

I dont really see anything milked in Sony, aside from maybe, just maybe Metal Gear Solid with the books and a supposed movie.

Microsoft its definatly Halo.

Microsoft or Nintendo is the winner.

Depends on what type of milking. Franchises/games/characters goes to Nintendo. Money and add ons goes to MS.

If every Final Fantasy game is so different why not give them different names?

To milk the franchise, that's why. Without Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest in their name Square's games wouldn't sell near as good.

Microsoft, by far.

BY FAR.

First of all, they charge you $140 for repairs after thefirst year if they aren't RROD, and even if they've changed that recently(I heard they did), they still tried to charge that, which was insane.

They charge for online, and it's not even worth it.

They charged for their movie addon, which sucked.

They charge for their Wifi adapter and that'll cost you at least 40.

I love the games, but the system sucks.

M$ has always milked the consumer even back with the early Windows OS that they produced. I remember when M$ would charge the consumer via a tole charge on there phone bill for tech support when the customer called them and they would always seem to keep the customer on the line for a certain number of minutes regardless of the problem and in the end 99% of the time they would have the consumer reboot there PC to fix the problem, and nothing else was really done before this.

Name recognition is a strong seller, I would hardly call their main iterations (very different as stated before) that take around 3 yrs to develop milking. I would agree on re-releasing being a total milking of the franchise name. And if we're going to go off name recognition than few companies milk a name like Nintendo.

There no proof that these games wouldn't sell as good without the name if the same game were released without said name(s). You can assume that would be the case, but it's nothing more than a "well if this was true... than this would happen".

I disagree with the Microsoft and the Sony, but Nintendo surely deserves the crown. It doesn't matter that the games are mostly good, it is still worthy of the title. Microsoft does charge for many additions and online though.

LOL no. I'm sorry but no. There are huge differences between a game such as Grandia and Final Fantasy. But to say that Final Fantasy's are more different from eachother then say Half Life 2 from a Halo is a laughable joke indeed.

How are the add-ons or wifi adaptors essential again? And paying for controllers is nothing new so I don't know why you would call that milking... "Next-gen" is a marketing tool. I could call anything new next-gen, but if you use the term, it makes something seem more advanced than it may or may not be. Blu ray isn't needed...yet. I can play games without it can't I? Sure it would be nice to have, but its not worth it, if it increases the price of the console, just like a wifi isn't worth having if it increases the price of the console.

Wasn't Milking forcing you to buy stuff you don't need (Ex. Sony PS3 Blu-ray)? I'll will be one of the first people to say that microsoft add-ons are expensive, but it's not milking. I'm pretty sure that's what milking is around here, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Charging people for extra features that they may not use isn't milking. It gives people the option, and keeps the cost of the console down.

On the other side, releasing a controller that has force feedback (something that's been around for years now)over year after the console was launched, when it should have been there to start with; now THAT'S milking.

Microsoft easily. I was given a Core 360 (remember them?) last Christmas, and had to buy a whole heap of stuff to actually have the full functionality of the ole' 360. Then there's Live, paid content and everything else... Realeasing a 20GB hard drive and then a 120GB hard drive the next year for a ridiculous price.

I think Sony should get a nod for the Dualshock 3 though. Tell everyone there won't be any rumble, and then release a rumble controller. All the early adopters got a lil bit screwed with that one.

Microsoft have reasons for what they do, ditching the xbox early was because NVidia were ripping them off. BC is also limited since they ditched NVidia when making the 360. HD DVD add on was made for the small percentage who actually wanted it, its obvious most people never wanted an hd dvd player. Xbox live I cant really defend. Nintendo releases games like Sonic & Mario at the olympics, & Mario Party 8 need i say more? Not to mention nintendo is only spending 100 to make your 250 dollar console.

lol my cousin (15 years old) bought an xbox360. I found out a week later after he bought it. I have a PS3 so I asked why he didn't buy that so we could do co-op or multiplayer. He said when looking at the game selection he was exactly neutral with games, and the thing that pushed him to the 360 was price. "I save $50 with 360, and I can put that towards a game!"

So I was trying ot Halo 3 on his 360 when I realized we were playing only singleplayer, so I asked him did you get live yet? He said no, the 360 won't connect to his wifi. I looked at the back and lol he had no wifi addon. I told him it costs another $100. I thought it was funny he didn't know that (his last system was a ps1) so I asked how he felt about live's cost. He said "wtf the best buy guy said getting a live account is free!" I told him that's silver you don't have multi on that.

360= $350+$50peryear live+$100 wifi= $500-700

Yeah....say for example, to get CoD4 up and running on a 360 costs a lot more than it does on a PS3.

1. Microsoft - $100 wireless adapter = utterly ridiculous - Though not much, $50 annual charge for LIVE - Overpriced downloadable content 2. Nintendo/Sony Nintendo and Sony would be in a tie for 2nd, IMO. Both overcharge for "virtual console" titles. Also, for those of you saying that Nintendo "milks their franchises" - it would be different if the games were bad, but they're not. SMG = GotY. If they keep the quality up - I don't see why this is a problem.

I have never understood how $$$ in any way comes into SW.

If someone chooses to spend any amount of money that they earned on making their gaming experence better who am I to judge?

I thought in SW all other concerns except the game quality were secondary.

Am I wrong on this?

IM a lem and I have to say MS. I bought the 360 thinking I would only pay for a relatively cheap console (at the time) and enjoy a great list of games. THis was true but I knew nothing of HD-DVD add-ons, no wireless adapter (though I dont really need one) and theprice of live.

good console, but MS knows how to milk their customers.

each final fantasy game has a different story and plays mildly to completely different than previous iterations.

it's like saying, all shooters are the same with just different guns...

or all platformers are the same game with different items to collect...

LOL no. I'm sorry but no. There are huge differences between a game such as Grandia and Final Fantasy. But to say that Final Fantasy's are more different from eachother then say Half Life 2 from a Halo is a laughable joke indeed.

i didn't say that...

i meant, as i said, each numbered(maybe that's what i didn't get across) final fantasy game has a new and different story, and plays midly different from older iterations..

that is not milking.. they are just making rpgs

If every Final Fantasy game is so different why not give them different names?

To milk the franchise, that's why. Without Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest in their name Square's games wouldn't sell near as good.

i agree square enix is milking with all it's spin off's, remakes, etc.

but the main final fantasy series is not milking in any way... what's wrong with calling the games final fantasy.. if they were all called something different, no one would be complaining about milking..
