Poll: Do you have 56k?

I'm curious how many people on this board really actually use 56k modems in this day and age.

If the number of users is low, then really we shouldn't have to be bothered with the "Warning 56k" title attachments. 56k users probably shouldn't be using gamespot anyway (due to its graphics intensive boarders and adds), and if they to use it, they should be using no page style just to view text.

At least thats what I think.

People still use 56K :|. I switched to Cable around 2002.Shadow2k6

I'm asking if we should care.

I know of a couple of posters that use 56k. I was using it a while back when my modem overheated, how the **** did we manage back in the 90's?bc1391

I once heard a guy hacked his dial-up connection and was getting up to 8MB speeds, so dial-up might not be as crippled as we think.

I have 56k. But actually I don't. The fastest connection I can get is 28.8. This is not by choice. There are no cable companies and Verizon's closest switching station is 4 miles away. Apparently they can't send DSL beyond 15000ft.

So to counter the pathetic lack of speed, I have all multimedia and pictures shut off in my web browser so I only see text. Believe it or not this has the wonderful benefit of me not having to see any advertisments. If I want to see a picture, I just right-click and select "Show Picture".

Although I'd love to have broadband, I'm not going the satellite route. Too expensive and too much lag for gaming purposes.
