gears is instense just because its usually close up battles and there's no respawns on most modes, so you try a little harder. FPS's aren't usually "intense", more like frantic is a good word to describe them.
anything on pc. why? way more players. sure, a 50 player cod4 server is just ridiculous, but a 32 player one is much better than the piddly 16 or 20 players on console. in some ways, i think tf2 is the most intense, because it's always so noisy and people are running everywhere.

yes 90% just huck grenades down to try to offset the fact they have little skill . Its honestly not that fun most players find it obnoxious.

I would actually find that terrible to play. When you say 32 players on a small map I think of 50 on shipment. It just doesn't work. CoD4 is the most "intense" out of the list of options for me.
Halo 3 is intense when you have 16 people all converging on one place in different vehicles and such. But L4D and TF2 are far more intense than Halo 3. But for some reason those 2 were left out.

It's not about better or worse. Almost every game I play in KZ2 is about as intense as a game of Shipment. And not because of size, it's just because KZ2 is that intense
I would say Halo 3 if it's a well balanced match, and when that game comes down to the wire, oh boy is it intense. But that doesn't happen all the time, whereas in CoD4, even jumping into a random match, bullets are whizzing by you, grenades are going off, people are dropping around, and helicopters and airstrikes rain death on you. That's intense.
Killzone2 then R2 then COD4 since these are the ones I own from your list, and yeah, KZ2's online is very very intense when there are no rocket launchers running around shooting randomly everywhere :)
