While both styles are good on there own, there isn't another game to take up the place of old RE, while new RE is entering a world of shooters.
So it is disappointing to see RE take a new direction that feels totally against the style and atmosphere of the older games.
I personally prefer the old style, although the new was fun.
It evolved well if you ask meToriko42
For something to evolve, it has to inherit part of what it was. There is no Resident Evil in 4. Except for maybe the character ... names.

Perhaps, but appearances can be...deceptive I think Mikami did a business move, he knew more people wanted action so he made it an action game. I knew the old style wouldn't last in the evolving market so I was ready to give it up. Resident Evil 4 was a great game and even though it may not be classic Resident Evil it is still awesome.[QUOTE="hakanakumono"][QUOTE="Toriko42"]It evolved well if you ask meToriko42

RE4 had superb controls. The old RE games had superb atmosphere.Can-o-MarkThe controls didn't really change from the older style to the new style. You still have to aim to shoot and still can't move when aiming.. You have to do a full turn just to walk in another direction or hit back and square or B or whatever. It is like they took the fixed camera from the old games and stuck in behind the character in RE4. Well they did add a knife button and more aiming options than up, straight, and down. If you don't believe me just play some of the older games and you will see that they are very much alike. But they did work wonderfully well in RE4. I prefer the older style. I felt more scared in that game becuase of the atmosphere, not having an abundance of ammo (could be walking around with a knife) or health. The controls even added to the overall creepy factor. It is not as scary now, but it has is moments where it is still creepy. I enjoyed RE4 though, but I like the older style
Capcom needs to remake RE2 witht the new style to show naysayers that the game stills RE no matter what.McdonaIdsGuyYeah. Resident Evil 2 remake would be a perfect game. I loved the new controls and gameplay of Resident Evil 4, but it did'nt feel like a resident evil game. It was'nt as scary.
RE4 was bad simple as that and re5 looks to be gears of war.
I want my survival horror games damit, And RE4 and 5 aren't evolution of survival horror they are completely different genres.

I think thats one good way to put it. I felt like rambo in RE4 and didint really feel the atmosphere I felt from the other games.

off-topic : dude change your sig she ain't dead :P,and is a known fact already but i won't spoil anything else.[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"]*facepalm* you just worship at the alter of what RE is now, But unlike you i've been a fan of RE far longer and have more RE stuff and RE4 was bad compared to past games and it wasn't survival horror it was a 3rd person shooter, and RE5 seems to even further this trend, RE used to be survival horror now its not its 3rd person shooter which is sad, I play RE for complicated puzzles lots of item management cinematic camera angles and creepy atomosphere something RE4 never had and re5 seems not to have in the least.RE4 was bad simple as that and re5 looks to be gears of war.

As well this They CASUALISED resident evil they went from a genre and model that appealed to teh few, to a model and genre that appeals to a much broader base its sad.

She is alive, but is killed near the end of the game.

j/k. I've no idea lol :P
I prefer the new style, by far. The gameplay of the first ones was abysmal, but it was compensated by the atmosphere. Just that after FIVE games with that abysmal gameplay, the atmosphere stopped being enough compensation. RE4 has everything, a superb gameplay (that no shooter has matched, yet), great atmosphere (even if it was not as good as in previous games) and excellence on the details. RE5 looks like it follows that trend. I'm glad to see that.IronBass

I'm probably older than you. And you can bet I've played them, even the remakes for the GameCube.
And I think it was pretty obvious that it was my opinion, so it being AA/AAA doesn't mean anything.
Besides, the abysmal control scheme/camera angles is of common knowledge.
The thing is, in RE4 you feel safe almost all the time, and if you die, you just restart from the last chekpoint, wich is ridiculous close to where you'r been... that's wrong, its a good thing for an action game, but not for an horror game. I mean, back to Silent Hill 1, you had 3 bullets, you couldnt see a **** and you were hunted by some awfull ghosts, wich you couldnt kill by the way; in a horrible corridor full of rust and bodys hanging mutilated...
Now that's what i want from a horror game.

Why would play all the installments (remakes included) of a series you think had such "abysmal" gameplay?
The old RE games are classic but the gameplay wouldn't have held up today, they had to change it
RE4 is a new classic
[QUOTE="IronBass"][QUOTE="RuinedMachine"]
The RE series is one of constant AA/AAA ratings so this abysmal gameplay you speak of is unheard of.
You're probably too young to have played the older RE games before RE4 came out.RuinedMachine

Because, as I also said on my original post, the atmosphere (and with it I include puzzles, characters, and plot) compensated that.

Yeah they aren't survival horror or even thrilling at all anymore. I think the new gameplay is really good though and RE 4 is one of my favorite games last gen but I don't see why they had to take out most of the thrilling atmosphere and puzzles to include the new shooter oriented gameplay, other games blend those two really well.
