I just realized that I might be the exception to the gaming rule and wanted to know what the general consensus is on gaming.  If you guys were faced with the choice of only being able to play either single player games or multiplayer games for the rest of your life what would you choose?

I'm limiting it just to videogames though. Also, based on the assumption you actually have someone to play with.

Why are people so content to play alone? Is no one competitive or what?

Depends on the game. Some are better as one. Some as the other. Some as both.

Sheesh Kalel, I've never seen someone so defensive about his own poll results so fast. I chose single player too, because I'm too lazy to read books and I actually play for storylines too.

lol. I think it's because I already had a feeling I was going to be a minority. I guess I should change this thread to "So why, exactly, do people like single player games anyways?"

Some of us like having intriguing characters, enthralling settings and epic plots in our games.

Single player games have a deliberate pacing, a sense of progress, an adventure with a climax and conclusion.

Err because you don't get idiots, you don't get obsessed gamers who play day in day out. I am competitive and i want to win. I was really into Q2 and it was the best gaming ever but then you get the cheaters and morons. Aswell as the fact that Multi player games are the most linear games made. Apart from RTS of course. Most mulit player games are either shooters or Wow type games. The rest that create multiplayer games look for the sake of it are like saints row. Why bother?? very much an American obsession. Multiplayer games reduce the innovation in games. Wow is about the community not the game. I vote for single player.

There's gameplay that cannot be achieved with competitive multiplayer.

it depends on the game. with short SP, (ie Gears, for example) it's probably best with mp. long SP games (like Oblivion) can have SP only without being limiting.

How about Co-Op single player games? It has multiplayer and single player all in one... My favorite type of game. As long as it has split screen.

single players mutiplayers have the disadvantages: 1) you need to play @ the same time for most games to work 2) people disconnect or if your playing games on one machine you have downgraded graphics or just a smaller display 3) you get people who do the dame over powered tatics again and again. 4) you cant come and go to a multiplayer game 5) most single player games wouldent work as mutiplayer or the 2 second play is just a joke. 6) most mutiplayer are death match how dull

I'm sorry, but I believe MP is a better option.

I wouldn't have played SSBM and UT2k4(Demo... Yes. The DEMO!) from the day they were released till now...

... :|

Right. Now I'm in the mood to mow down some with Mantas.
