SASR Transformed is the best "kart" racing game ever made, both with great gameplay, fantastic visuals, silky smooth 60fps,way better and more varied characters to choose from and same goes to the tracks, but especially,it doesnt have the terrible rubberbanding and items that make the game into a lottery instead of skill. Its a skill based game unlike the MK games, and the same goes to the Mario Party games for instance,no matter how badly you do you almost always have a chance to win in the end, wich makes for a good party game for sure, but one almost skillless.
Just look at the recent mario party videos on giantbomb and see how pathetic it is,and many of those issues plague mario kart as well.
I don't believe you've played MK8. It is the rare occasion where someone very far behind makes a comeback. In fact, it is one of the most hectic race focused games that isn't a sim. Timing in this game is very tight in order to be good at it.
It's pretty darn random getting first place in Mario kart 8 though. The rate of getting coins in the higher placements is terrible so you are completely helpless against blue and red shells a lot of the time. I'd say the game might be perfect if it wasn't for the coin and blue shell items. Everything else is rather fair, but as it stands, the game feels more like a lottery than something that rewards skill. In fact, it still feels like skill is exactly what it wants to punish.
P.S. Unfortunately yaotubo, All-stars racing transformed is not 60fps. It runs at solid 30fps.
I disagree. Now, I have stated that I may think there are some balance issues with the karts/bikes, but the items play a smaller role in this performance. If you get a banana, shell--hold on to it. Also, the tracks are designed in a way where shells only work so well. Shells don't pass gravity walls and there are often sections that completely stop them.
The blue shell fiasco happens once in a while. I won't say that it doesn't but it is the rare occasion where it actually affects the race. I play the game a lot and if I had to average the hours since the dlc pack i'd say there was ONE, maybe two times where I'm riding first and end up in 7th or so.
The bigger issue with the game is pack separation. The races tend to favor a few packs of racers. I notice that there's generally an upper 3 or 4 people competing, then a middle of the pack, and some people lagging behind. It is that starting gate that is important. Getting stuck in the middle pack distances you from the upper pack because there's more chaos going on. Then, there's the people that suck and I can maybe theory that its just a holes chillin for that blue shell to f the front racers out of spite.
As far as the actual kart on track, though, this game emphasizes skill more than any other kart racer.
