No. Their main goal is for you(consumers) to have one device that takes over the living room. They want you or everyone should I say to depend on one device to do it all. It's the same agenda M$ has with 360.
Why do you think they added all these multi media features? They are trying to target more then just gamers.
I really can't see how Sony's actions with blu-ray don't disgust all gamers. If Sony would have had gamers in mind, if they would have used a standard DVD drive we could have all bought a premium PS3 for $300.bluebrad1974... Ps3 is 800-840 USD. Blu ray is 125 USD. More than likely blu ray does not affect prices.

Blu-ray is the main reason people have to pay $600 for a PS3. Also, if Sony didnt choose Blu-ray they could afford to lower the cost to $400 or $300 for gamers to get the system. This would also make microsoft lower their costs. In all, Sony hurt gamers and themselves with the PS3. Just get a Wii--I know I will.

they are in it for the money the same as any other company....dont go beleiving they care about the customer!daveg1No, but they should care about consumers. They should give the consumer what they think the consumer wants instead of telling them what they are going to give them.

Sony knew that if they didn't force gamers to buy a blu-ray player, then no one would have bought one. And that would have killed the mountain of kickbacks that their TV, stereo, and motion pictures divisions are currently getting because of the PS3.

WHETHER OR NOT BLU RAY IS IN THE PS3 IT SELLS FOR A SIGNIFICANT LOSS. you are one of those naivetes who like to blame blu ray. The machine is so bloated, it would sell for around 150 USD loss without blu-ray... I doubt Sony would drop the price at a 725 USD cost... Maybe 50, or even 100 potentially. But you are bloody misinformed
the ps1 was $300, the ps2 was $300, like all things eventually the ps3 would become more expensive regardless if it had a blu ray drive. everything rises in cost not just technology, just looke at the rise of car, food or gas prices from the past 20 years. the next generation of consoles will also be more expensive and people will bash on it then too. Then why is the PS3 the only console to have a price tag beyond a normal this gen gaming console? It's sony's fault for the high price, not the economy's.

I don't know where your getting your information, but you can rest assured that the reason the PS3 is $600 is because of the blu-ray player.

And that would have killed the mountain of kickbacks that their TV, stereo, and motion pictures divisions are currently getting because of the PS3. If they were that desperate to sell blue ray, than they should have sold a PS3 that used standard dvds as a gaming format and a blu ray add-on (like 360's HDDVD add on) for HD capabilities for movies. They then would release games on regular DVDs but the highly anticipated titles on Blu-ray (meaning, they would need the extra blu-ray player). Sure it's dirty, but nothing Sony wouldn't do anyways. If they did it this way, they would have sold more systems, more games and more blu-ray.
blu ray. but hopefully the games will rock, and the developers main focus is making games.danneswegmanI feel sorry for them. Having to make videogames with a CPU (Cell) that was designed around streaming HD movies instead of being solely designed with games in mind.

There are 360 launch games that look better than anything on the PS3.
Oh, there's no doubt. The PS3 is a Blu-Ray player before a game system, and I'm not buying a Blu-Ray player.Tsug_Ze_WindSame here.
Blue ray is there to help gaming it is for gaming as well as for movies.
Gaming is Sony's main focus otherwise they would have incorporated Blue-ray technology to making gaming bigger and better.
nice try 360 fanboys but you fail at ownage

Blu-ray isn't being used to improve gaming whatsoever. The extra space of blu-ray discs is being used for region free coding, and game data is being copied numerous times throughout the disc to cut down on load times.

dumbest poll of the day. dumbest thread too maybe?massAttack2kWhy? Because it's exposing Sony, or is it because it's not bowing down and worshipping Sony the way you cows are taught to do?
