what's the most realistic type of sim out there? which has come the furthest in 40 years of gaming?

TBH I don't think flight sims have come very far from games like Jane's F/A-18 except in terms of graphics.
Racing Sims are definantly the most popular,I think that flight sims are themosst realistic though, but I have never played one.
Flight Simulators.
iRacing is the same for racing sims, but it's one lonely game in it's genre that displays this level of realism.
Flight Simulator is the only correct answer.

No it's not. DCS' A10 is the new king of flight (combat) sims:

We trained in my country's armywith Steel Beasts Pro, so I would say it is the most realistic game I've played. Not a big sim fan, though.
[QUOTE="AdrianWerner"]rFactor is pretty good as well, especially for the FSR.Flight Simulators.

Live For Speed has the best physics imo.

Overall it probably has but the rFactor formulas are probably the best depiction of open wheels simulations out there, with the best pro formula leagues in the world.[QUOTE="BigBoss154"]

i wish my computer could run that
Train simulators... they're the most realistic IMO because well, you just have to hop on-board and contemplate the landscapes lol
Well, there´s a lot more to it than that. :P[QUOTE="GreenGoblin2099"]

Feeding the machine with some delicious coal to keep it going?? :P

For steam trains,of course! ;)Id say driving Sims like Gran Turismo. Sure there is no damage, but the sheer amount of cars and meticulous detail given to each individual handling is excellent. I would say flight simulator except for Falcon 4.0. It released in 1998 and is still considered as accurate as you can get for fighter sims. I dont see how flight sims can be discussed as coming along much further after that game.-ArchAngeL-777-Grand Prix Legends was out in 1998 too and Gran Turismo still haven't yet fully matched it's realism.
You serious?I can't tell the difference between Forza 3 and real life, so I'm going with driving simulators.

After watching this, you'll bepretty sure he's dead serious
Driving sims more than anything have come the furthest, both in profitability and realism. It's easier to simulate something that can only be controlled along two dimensions (mostly) as opposed to something on 3 dimensions. I prefer flight sims though.

Flight sims are far more complex imo.

Not really. Arma II is just OFP on steroids. It's still the best military sim though.
I agree it is the same for NHL series even from NHL 2002 and NHL 2011 the difference is huge.Play NBA live 98, pay NBA 2k11, and the difference in realism is absoulutely massive, especially if you adjust the sliders so every basket isn't in the paint, lol.
magnax1
I'm not sure about other sports like Madden that seems the same.
Fifa has changed over the years aswell and got better.
I'm only going be EA Sports games.
Nah. It's the most realistic tactical shooter, but it just can't compare to sims of other genres. First of all..fully simulating a human body is pretty much impossible without Virtual reality. With vehicle sims (like planes) you can recreate the whole control system.

And second...ARMA II had to be playable, that's why all the vehicles in it are very simplified.

Yes, but I said driving sims have come the furthest in terms of actually simulating their specific niche. Flight sims are still, yes, way more complex. Ever played Lock On Modern Air Combat? You + Wingman vs 4x Su-27s isn't easy lol.Yes, but I said driving sims have come the furthest in terms of actually simulating their specific niche.PC_OtterI don't think that true. there's only one single racing sim that can be considered on this level of realism. The rest are still lacking in this area. With flight sims there are more of those titles that do come close.

Good points, I think like that too. There'll never be a "perfect" military sim anyway. Real war is totally different to what we play in games.
