Even if your 360 broke or not, are you planning to sell it (after MS fixes it) to get the newer version.

Discuss.

my launch unit broke and I sold it to a friend,

but now I'll just wait for the 45nm version in 2009 when the core version has HDMI and is 149$

I already have a 20GB HDD.

How would you know if you've got the console with the 65nm chip in it?

No, if my 360 does break down, MS will just replace the older chip with the new one.

They very likely can't do that without changing the entire board. A 360 isn't just a pc you know, smaller chips don't use the same socket.

Selling consoles is a bad idea. You lose money. And since mine has never broken, I'm just content with the warranty for now.

... What if the 65nm chipset doesn't fix the problem... what if the problem is in the GPU or the Ram or something else...

It's always a possibility, but things look like they're pointing to the cpu.

Selling consoles is a waste unless the console's no longer getting any game support or there are no more games that interest you, so no.

I've not really seen anything that points it towards anyting. I think it's more of an assumption then anyting that it's because the CPU overheats, but perhaps it's the GPU over heating instead... or something wrong with the Motherboard. I mean it could be any number of things...

MS is full of a lot of morons, but im sure they have the ability to monitor temps, and a infrared heat gun to check what is actually causing the heat issue. even the bungling MS group cant be that dumb (hopefully)

the main problem is that the original plan was to Water cool the the GPU and CPU

But that Idea was nixed at the last minute and M$ opted to install 2 fans out the back and 2 garbage heat sinks with cheap thermal paste.

There wouldn't be any RROD if it was watercooled but that is expensive.

hindsight is 20/20

water cool? are you dim? you cant water cool a console and mass market it. water cooling barely fits all the way in a full size computer case, you think they are going to stuff it into a dinky console? defeats the purpose if you dont have the room to radiate the heat from the water.

on top of all that, it would be rediculously expensive. have you priced out water cooling for a PC? it aint cheap, thats for sure. where do people get this crap...?

My latest Xbox 360 is working fine, so I don't feel a need to get a 65nm version unless forced to do so. If this one craps out, hopefully Microsoft would send me a cooler model. Either way, with the 3-year warranty, I'm not that worried.
