Polygon Top 50 of 2020 - GoT#31 - Flight Sim#3

I love end of the year lists from all the publications we read (and don't read).

Its like a final gasp at what everyone's opinions are for the year. Always entertaining.

Anyway, Polygon had a list that I though was pretty great as it combines indies and AAA and doesn't pull any punches.

I'd love to hear system wars opinion on it. BTW #1 is a fantastic game... It was just as fantastic a couple years ago when it was called dead cells. Those games rock hard.

😄 This list is a casual gamer's delight, and I love Hades, but it's not number 1. Also, most people can't even play Flight Simulator, let alone judge it lol.

Great list, happy to see Hades taking #1 and MSFS #3. Kentucky Route Zero being so high is cool too, it's one of my main goty contenders.

Turd of Tsushima being so low is one more good thing about this list.

I really like that list. Haven't played almost any of the games - but I enjoyed the straightforward description of them and why they are there, and the fact that it isn't just a pile of all the biggest AAA schlock that IGN gave a 9.5+ to. Seems like they actually made some choices, in this case, whether the list aligns with one's own or not

How do you go from Hades to Animal Crossing then to Flight Sim these are all drastic different games who made this list they don't even make sense.

You got FF7 Remake on there which I didn't like it as much FF7 on PS1. I just didn't, I don't like the new gameplay as much, I don't like music as the original. Its just not as good as the original and Resident Evil 2 remake was better than original game so how did capcom make a better remake than the original game while square-enix didn't but thats in polygons top 5 wtf ?

Decent enough list, even though I am a bit surprised the Sony heavy hitters ain’t listed higher, especially as I thought polygon was one of them woke Sony fanboys site??

Is this why polygon had to outsource the Cyberpunk review? The staff was too busy with the top 100 list?

@goldenelementxl: cyberpunk man... No game has screamed "don't play me yet!" louder than cyberpunk.

I expect folks to react negatively if their game of choice isn't number 1.

Its a decent list, but there are games on it that didn't release in 2020, like No Man's Sky. I don't care if the game has been updated to be better. They aren't 2020 games.

Bloodborne has had a few patches, should that be in the list as well?

Boy, that list is absolute garbage. Blaseball? THE JACKBOX PARTY PACK 7? OK

There are some games that ain't from this year, is like saying that The Godfather is the best movie of 2020 just because i watched it earlier this year.

I know, right? Even on PC, I boot it up, look at it for a second, and then go do something else. I wanted the game to be amazing. I wanted it to be the next Mass Effect in terms of worlds I get lost in. So far, this aint it...

But still, the way some publications handled the reviews is suspect to me. The transphobic backlash the game received pre-launch, justified or not, was too loud to ignore. But Polygon giving the years biggest review to a trans writer that doesn't work for Polygon is strange. Kotaku writer Riley MacLeaod, a trans women, reviewed Cyberpunk 2077 and TLOU2. And then wrote 2,309,586,156 Fortnite articles.

@goldenelementxl: polygon is a joke, they also wrote a highly negative article on GOT and how it didn’t respect Japanese culture and how no samurai would use stealth, despite this conflict actual being a central theme in the game..

No way! That just tells you that 1) They didn't actually play through the game and/or 2) They don't actually understand Japanese culture as Samurai were trained in the art of stealth to an extent.

I agree with their #1 and don't mind MS Flight Sim being so high but overall a pretty bad list.

So in the tortured logic of ranking math Flight Sim is worth 10X more acclaim than Ghost of Tsushima.

They include a game from 2016 but no Carrion.

Thats a funny list, i do love how most of Sonys big games are lower ranked, but find it funny its half arsed games in Miles Morales & Astrobot are highly ranked.

Oh and i love how Valhalla is ranked better than all of Sony's AAA games (GoT, LOU2 & DS) lol.
