Popular and praised characters you dislike?

So, what game characters that are either popular or well praised that you can't seem to like?

For me, it's Kreia from Star Wars: KOTOR II.

As much as I like the game (played it more than the first) and like Chris Avellone's work in the Fallout franchise. It makes me wonder why he was put on the team, considering he admitted that Kreia is pretty much a puppet for his disdain for the Star Wars franchise, akin to Brian Griffin on Family Guy being a puppet to Seth MacFarlane's liberal politics (which some fans and critics of Family Guy highly dislike).

Seriously, these scenes are comparable to me...

Further, don't Star Wars fans play Star Wars games to get lost in their favorite franchise? Can't that easily turn them off out of it? Even her nagging can get annoying.

How about yours? Which widely praised character do you dislike?

I play Tomb Raider II: The Golden Mask, and Lara Croft is kewl babe in hotpants with James Bond Mansion going on a globe trotting adventure in well designed (better than Ocarina Of Time) dungeons with a sense of mystery and adventure.

Then I play the new one and she is whiny little emo girl with dirt shit rubbed on her face in contrived waypoint levels with no sense of mystery or intricate level design.

This seems to appeal to tumblr Kotaku people care more ethics than good gameplay.

Very disgusting.

Gordon Freeman - Why the **** is this character so popular? Yea sure Half Life 2 is one of the best FPS games ever made but that doesn't mean the protagonist is the greatest character ever...

I'll choose from every major player to be fair.

Microsoft - Master Chief. Just don't care about his character at all.

Sony - Kratos. Probably the biggest dick in gaming. Kills his family and blames others. *rolls eyes*

Nintendo - Pokemon. Doesn't matter which, I never got into it and go out of my way to destroy them first in Smash Bros.

Sega - Nearly every side character from Sonic. WTF were they thinking with Big the Cat?

Nathan Drake, dude is a walking cliche

Mastercheif - equivalent to any mindless cod character in a biker suit...

Nathan Drake - cliche, b movie character.

Kratos - is an utter C***.

Gordon Freeman and Glados.

Geralt, he's the poster boy of this ridiculous trend for gravelly anti-hero male protagonists in games at the moment and i hate it

The entire point of Gordon Freeman is that he has no built in personality at all. He doesn't speak or actually communicate with anyone else. Basically, if you don't like Gordon, then you don't like yourself because when you're playing Half Life, you are Gordon and Gordon is you. Essentially he's an Avatar not a character.

Agreed with this. This is the actual character I had in mind when reading the thread title. I'm not entirely sure why this character is so praised; we've seen this character abundantly in B grade Hollywood adventure movies.

Every single character , from bosses to NPCs to characters in Diablo 3.

The most cliche voice acting , dialoques , scripts , direction , story , anti-emotional , cliche crap i ever played and to think i loved every single character in diablo 2 ( more or less )

Not a fan of Kratos. That guy is just awful in every way imaginable.

Nathan Drake is alright but not the biggest fan of him until maybe the last game when he becomes more normal.

Edward Kenway, Yennefer, Morrigan in Origins but I like her in Inquisition, Max in Max Payne 3, CJ & Trevor.

Kratos, he sucks. He is actually pretty badly written, and gamers ate him up because they love eating shit.

I couldn't stand her pseudo alpha female posturing and manner. Ellie did far more to exemplify strength and vulnerability of character than this cliche of one ever came close to conveying. I couldn't (and still) can't stand Tess. She was one-dimensional. If there ever was an argument for permitting player agency to decide the worst of fates for NPCs, Tess was it, right behind Ashley from RE4. Perhaps it was just a matter of acting as I don't, in principle, object to the role and characteristics she encompassed nor am I sexist, but **** if she didn't rub me the wrong way.

Is Kratos still a popular and praised character?

I do not understand how people enjoy the new Lara Croft.

She is so fucking boring and and unlikable. She's easily one of the worst written characters I've ever seen in a video game.

I fluctuated between liking and disliking Triss Merigold in The Witcher 3.

I totally agree with this one right here. Some B movie actor/ underwear model. If a game is trying to be a movie, it should at least try to be a good one, and it starts with the main character in this case.

Kratos is a bastard but..no i dont really hate him. Him.being angry all the time i found to be quite hilarious.

Masterchief is cringeworthy coz they tried too hard to make him sound badass. Yes i get it, hes genetically modifed super spartan.

I don't get the Lightning hate. I mean, I hated Snow a lot more. In fact I wish I could high-five Lightning for punching Snow when he was boohoo'ing about Sarah.

I agree. The cast of FFXIII was generally speaking awful. Snow, Vanille and Hope were specially bad. Lightning compared to the rest of the cast in FFXIII was actually pretty okay.

As for a popular character I hated, that would be Joel from the Last of Us.

Can you go more into detail with that? What you mean by "upsetting SJW"? I mean I didn't like Joel on how he got way to attached to Ellie. Didn't seem natural or it was just bad writing development.

Ellie was annoying. That voice is awful too.

I personally would not have a problem with Joel if the Naughty Dog fanbase was not as annoying as it is. Joel himself is pretty much the generic brooding anti hero who went through a sad event at the beginning of the game.

Kratos, hands down. The worst douchebag in gaming. An angsty, emo, homicidal psychopath, with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Runner-up: Mario. I don't hate the character, but don't like how much praise he gets, way more than he deserves.

@PsychoLemons: yeah I never liked Lightning, to be fair I only like Sazh. What annoys me the most is how of little importance she is in the story of FF XIII and yet she is the main character. She has zero personality or charisma too.

Nathan Drake is awesome for the same reason Han Solo is. Yeah it's an archetype, so what? It's executed perfectly. Is gaming so rife with complex, well rounded, original, 3 dimensional characters that Drake looks lame? Lol. In film I agree he'd be nothing special, in gaming he remains one of the better characters though.

Ditto. I find her as bland as oats and she is suppose to be the "Female Cloud Strife". Also it doesn't help that she berates her teammates and beats up Snow even though she was wrong all along in terms of Serah .

Well to be far, in terms of personality and character arc Lightning is more like Squall than Cloud. Lightning just resembles Cloud in terms of physical appearence.

Master Chief. What a dull, generic and lame game character he is.

Master Chief - He's both cheesy and dull. Very bad combo.

Adam Jensen - The very essence of cheese.

Cloud - Meh, Final Fantasy

Kratos - He's cool because he's... angry? No idea..

Solid Snake - Stolen from the Escape from New York movie. Which is a really bad movie.

Probably lots more, but those are the ones at the top of my head right now.
