Popular games/franchises you tried to get into, but did not like

The one franchise that comes to mind for me is Monster Hunter. Every time they announce one of these games, I try out the beta or demo and immediately get bored. Maybe there’s something I’m missing? I just don’t find the combat very fun. What about you, SW? What popular games/franchises you tried to get into, but did not like?

Nioh. It was just too dang hard; I never made it past the farm level. It's unfortunate because I wanted to like it. I may just be a wimp.

GTA, Red Dead, Halo, and xenoblade coke to mind.

Battlefield and Socom immediately spring to mind. Rayman, Splinter Cell, Hitman, Resistance, Prince of Persia are some others.

Almost any Souls-like game; Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Nioh, etc. Honestly, it's filled with a lot of great games, I just don't like the genre I guess. Jedi is the only exception, mostly because it's a "lite" version of the genre.

Final Fantasy

Monster Hunter, lame.

Splatoon, lame.

Red Dead Redemption, lame.

Gran Turismo, i think their soundtracks are amazing though.

GTA - pretty shallow and boring gameplay

Assassin's Creed - a bland open world checkbox grindfest

CoD - as lame as Michael Bay movies

I tried Xenoblade 2 - didn't care for it much.

Also the modern Deus Ex games. The 1st i was immediately turned off by needing a cool down for stealth takedowns. Made it further in MD but I just kinda suck at it ... same with Hitman 2016

Silent hill franchise. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I don’t get it. I could tell it’s a good franchise though. They’re all excellent games. Especially 4.

GTA is one for sure. I played a bit of GTA online with some buddies for a while but never really played the stories of any GTA game to completion.

Mario games. The bright colors and high pitched voices are abrasive to my senses, and platformers don't really drive me to continue playing. I need a game to give me a reason to play it other than a high score or I move on to something that does pretty quickly.

Soulslike games I just cannot get into. I tried Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, & Sekiro and just couldn’t get into them. I hated the idea of having to restart and go through it again. I did only play these games like for a bit but nonetheless…

Monster Hunter is one. Too tedious. That's why I preferred Dauntless. I left that when they overcomplicated it.

Apex Legends and Dead by Daylight. My friends were leaving the game that we played together, and a lot of them left for those games. I really did try to get into them, but they just did nothing for me. Dead by Daylight is Friday the 13th, but without the flavor. Same with Apex Legends, but with Fortnite.

Last one was Baldur's Gate 3. Entire game built around dice rolls. Couldn't explore for 3 seconds without setting off another conversation. Trigger this, trigger that.

Not for me.

Monster hunter, skyrim, fallout. I stopped playing after an hour.

Smash bros and Mario kart.... I've tried. They bore me to tears.

Also, Halo... Had fun with split screen mp with friends and that's about it. Never understood how those games got the attention they do. I've gone back and started playing the master chief collection and it's just all OK. Nothing that moves the needle in any way.

Dota games, I just like RTS more

Battle Royale games, I just like team games more

Clown shooters, I like when shooters adhere to a certain style like Vietnam or WW2. But it could also be a fictional one.

Sports games, I play some Mario Kart and occasional FIFA with friends, but any other sports game just flies past me

Bayonetta. Too many cutscenes and QTEs.

Apex Legends, and other such games. As Ragnarok calls them, this is one of those clown shooters, where everyone looks like clowns with neon lights running around trying to get their even uglier skins. While the gameplay might not be entirely terrible, playing these games is very annoying because of the way they're designed for people to grind for bullshit and makes that obvious at every turn. Being filled with dumb people also isn't a plus. It's also the replacement for the much better Titanfall. Yay.

Sports games and CoD. I'm not much of a dudebro.

Dota games. Just don't enjoy the gameplay.

Strategy games. Can enjoy some, like Civ which is slower paced, but I'm extremely shit at them and usually get pissed or frustrated at some point.

New God of War. Remove the QTEs, remove/shorten the cinematics, zoom out the camera, have better level design and generally focus less on being cinematic and I'd be game.

The Monster Hunter series.

Should have been right up my alley but tried a few times and it just didn't click for me.

Souls (Demon, Dark). I can take it in games like the Star Wars: Jedi series, but the series/genre itself? Nope... controllers are expensive. Not risking it.
