Guys, portable gaming gets dissed a lot here but I'm starting to get really into it. I have a Nintendo DS Lite, and I think I might get a PSP soon. Reasons for this?

You can bring it with you everywhere, so you don't have to stop playing your RPG midway just because you are going on a trip for a week long.

It's cheaper! The hardware is cheaper and the games are cheaper as well!

You don't need a TV! This is a pretty big one! first because nice TV's are expensive, secondly because if someone in your house needs your TV you can still game!

Graphics are not as ugly as they once were on portable. There was a huge gap between the Gameboy and the Super Nintendo, but nowadays the portables, particularly the PSP are pretty damn close to the home consoles

They go online! Online gaming is now available on both the DS and the PSP so if you have your wireless setup, you can go blast away in Metroid Prime Hunters deathmatches from the comfort of the bathroom as you pinch a loaf.

Portable gaming now has depth equal to console gaming! The days where portable gaming consisted of simple platformers and puzzle gamers are over. There are some great fighting games, racing games, RPGs, and Action-Adventures on the portables of today.

Using Headphones is easy. Why is this important? Well my girlfriend lives with me but she works early and playing my consoles wakes her up, unless it's on really low volume and then it sucks to play like that. Well I can turn my DS Lite put on a pair of headphones, and lay in the bed right next to her, fully experiencing my game while she sleeps away without disturbing her.

More big titles! How do I figure? Well, since the DS Lite and the PSP combined are cheaper then the 360 premium and the PS3 and only a bit more expensive then the Wii, if you compare the big titles for both of the portable combined, I think it surpasses the big titles for any one of the consoles.

I mean I have a Wii, and I love it, but I think I'm going to focus more on getting all the multiplayer and party games for my Wii as well as the occasional big title. I'm going to start getting more into portable gaming for more of my single-player gaming because it's so convenient. Thoughts?

Do any of you guys know if they make any cases that hold both the DS Lite and the PSP. It would be awesome if I could carry both systems as well as games and accessories in one convenient case.

I despise portable gaming with a passion. Mainly because its rude, but I do admit some of the games are good.

That's like saying you hate cell phones because they are rude. An owner can choose to be rude about it, but it's not rude. I mean, I play my DS Lite in and around the house, on car/bus trips with headphones on, on airplane flights, on the crapper, etc. In none of those scenarios am I rude to anyone. If anything I'm less rude because for example I don't bother my girlfriend when she's trying to sleep by having my TV blaring.

It is rude to be at a social place and be using something like that. Especially at like McDonalds or something. You know how many times I wanted to smack a kid when I was working at baskin robin's because he kept dropping his ice cream because he was too busy playing Zelda like a space cadet?

Well it depends.

Like when im on hte tram and I see a whiney fat kid playing GTA LCS on his PSP, or 6 saplings at a restraunt screaming as they fight over MK DS.

I dont often take my PSP 'out with me', unless I intend(ed) to go Wifi hunting for MGS:PO, or was meeting up with a mate who has a PSP, for some ad hoc action - though usually not in a 'social setting'.
I have admittededly mellowing out on the train, comming back from work playing some Tekken on my PSP though.

My DS never goes walkabouts lol.

I guess I take my PSP with me sometimes beacuse of its homebrew capalilities - and the stuff it allows.
I mean going to Myer in the city, upstairs to electronics; where there are over 100 Tv's, and using Universal Remote to swtich channels, turn on and off, every TV in the section is pretty amusing. Or the local pub ;)
Im not a cronic UR annoyer though :P !

Another advantage, though it only applies to the DS is NO LOAD TIMES!! To me that's a big deal, I hate load times with a passion! Another advantage that only applies to the DS is that you do not need a memory card or hard-drive to save games, and the saves travel with the game.

~-~It all depends on my mood. Like right now I'm loving Castlevania so my DS is all busy and my Wii/360 are sitting around doing nothing. I want a PSP and get some JRPGs on it because I want to be able to bring it with me if I need to go some where. Does the PSP have a sleep mode that I can use anytime like closing the DS? The funny part is I don't really bring it places, I just kick back on my bed and play. I play all my games on my bed, even PC games. (I'm in bed now)~-~ ~-~Added: ^^^^ Dawn of Sorrow! WOOO!~-~

The DS lite is the greatest handheld I have ever bought, The no load times are freaking sweet. Although some games do have very minimal load times but nothing compared to the PSP at all!

Hell yeah, with a DS Lite and a PSP you'll have access to:

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Wipeout Pure, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Tekken: Dark Resurrection, Mario Kart DS, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, New Super Mario Bros., Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Yoshi's Island DS, Hotel Dusk: Room 215, Daxter, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Lumines, Meteos, Trauma Center: Under the Knife, SOCOM, etc.

I'm sorry but that's a better line-up then any of the next gen consoles.

Yeah, tell me about it. I just went on a trip where I was on a bus for 10 hours there and 10 hours back. I was dreading it so much, but I decided to buy a new game for my DS Lite (I got Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin) and the bus ride was great, just chilling, eating some snacks and playing Castlevania.

Anyways, I'm dying to go to Japan. I even told my girlfriend (soon to be wife) that I am not going to have kids until I can go to Japan for an extended period of time! (Seriously, I want to stay out there for like a month).

Well with a PSP value pack you get a manditory 32mb mem card. Personally PSPs should have a built in HDD ;)
Personally I couldent get by without my 2gb brew stick. That i got for $40 AUD ;)

Load times on PSP games have dramatically decreased, since the 1st gen games.  Unfortunatly the DS is the only system (apart form the gba micro) that dosent have load times.

There both great handhelds - and each has an awesome range of titles - and either can suit a person.

Haters cant really trash eachother as there both soo good, and have their own unique pros and cons.

For those of us that will not be going on a trip to granmaw's house in the backseat of a car, waiting for a class to begin, or shopping for shoes with our mothers, portable gaming is a waste of time. Ah, to be young again. Enjoy that free time while you have it bud.

I've always been a fan of handheld gaming, the games may not always be as deep as console or PC gaming, but they're really a good waste of time.  I've also found that most handheld games have higher replay value, I always dig up old games from years long gone by and play through them again.

That said, I wouldn't use them to replace PC or console gaming, I still spend most of my time on my home systems.

Yup, and I missed a lot of good DS games as well. From a quick review of the games on the DS and the PSP there are about 60 or so games that I would consider good games, while the 360 has about 25, and the Wii and PS3 have about 5-7 each. I mean in library quality, it really is no contest, the PSP-DS combo is better then any single home console.

Yea I agree!

Add in PSP homebrew, and im in HEVAN :D

Only problem is that there are some console titles that totally kick ass. And PC titles that will never see the light of day on a HH and Console. Like Sup Com - which is zomgwtfbbq!
